I had a couple of goes at this. One took considerably longer than the other! This is one attempt ![]() _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |

I'm sorry I'm going to have default but enjoying your works when I can peek. I can't get a clean run. Everything happening around here.................. Micky if you want some of the horrors of war and stupidity, try Emile Zola, La Babacle. France "Elete" took on the Prussians. Sorry I'm biased I like Emile's works and Degas artist working and others working together. I visited Verdun north France. Horror on horror. History repeats itself. |

Re: Challenge 475: The ambulance
Thank you so much Deb. The state of our local hospital at Manly is not too far from this condition. This FC is a case of art imitating life lol James, your second animation made me smile. There is a road that I drive on nearby here that looks identical to the one you have used, with a stream running through it. Its a lot fun driving through the water but not recommended using a Jeep Wrangler without its top!! ![]() _________________ Dorothy: Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore |

Re: Challenge 475: The ambulance
A glorious image from ahmedalij started this week's entries - a highly atmospheric shot, with the ambulance beautifully integrated into the scene - and even the perspective works perfectly. Superb work, Ahmed! This is really tremendous. High drama in the second entry - but I'd recommend that you apply that degree of blur only to the hub caps, and not the entire wheel! I like the blazing guns on the plane. I like the muted mono tones of Vibeke's entry, but there's something here that doesn't quite gel. Is the ambulance simply too low in the picture, and maybe a little too small? Surely there should be room for that policeman to stand up inside it? I like the overall feel though, and it's a fantastic choice of background. It seems like Josephine Harvatt has checked out my video on the new Select Color dialog in Photoshop CC - and there's the Dad's Army background, with the ambulance set in the shot. But who's driving it? I recognise Walker, so shouldn't that be Jones at the wheel? A very moody scene from Garfield72, with the ambulance in driving rain. I like the tones here, but there are a couple of issues. First, the driver is sitting much too far forwards - there's no room for a steering wheel. And second, the perspective of the ambulance is wrong for the perspective of the scene: it needs to be much higher in the picture for that angle of road. The angle works much better in the second entry - but watch your contrast! The ambulance and explosion have much deeper blacks than the foreground people, which makes the images look like they don't belong together. A tremendous image from tooquilos, with the ambulance thoroughly rusted and battered - beautifully achieved! And I'm most impressed with your skeleton staff. The animated version has a very touching scene inside the hospital: that twitching leg and shaking curtain add a lot to the effect. You need to talk to James about making figures walk, though: your nurse does glide, rather! I like the way James's ambulance frightens the horse - that's a good rearing-up pose! But why start with such a low res horse image? Surely there must be plenty of better quality? Clever technique flipping the ambulance as it follows the bend in the road, but do watch that lighting direction. A spectacular second entry, with three different angles on the ambulance - the reconfigured front view works perfectly, and I like those splashes as it goes through the water. Excellent! A very evocative image from Ben Mills, with a most interesting cast of characters. I'm sure there's a story here, but I can't work it out! Just one thing: the man in the gas mask is very pink compared to the rest of the scene. A serene and highly polished image from Deborah Morley, with the ambulance taking its place in a London street. DId you colour the scene as well? It's a great background image. I like the reflection in the ambulance window too - good work. I like the way joeysala has integrated the ambulance into a row of army vehicles. The angle is a little different to the rest, but I don't think that matters. It's a good fit, and nicely blended in with the scene. Was there a gap there originally, or did you create one? A charming image from Linda Eckert, with a boy completing a model of the ambulance. I like the extra touches - the doll with the broken arm, the tube of cement. A great idea! Perhaps it just needs a little shadow from the boy's arm on the ambulance? A rather beautiful image from Mariner, with a recoloured ambulance on an airfield. A great sense of night here, with excellent glare and shadows. A couple of points: the driver is rather too far forward in the cab; and there doesn't look to be room for the legs of the man with the binoculars. Either that, or he's just too small for the image. I always enjoy michael sinclair's two-step animations, and this one's a real treat: the changing shadows on the wheels, the slight blur of the hubcaps (although this could have been much greater), and above all the way the driver jiggles up and down. Most entertaining! Except, as with so many other montages this week, the driver is too far forward in the cab. A powerful scene from micky47, and the ambulance matches the tone well. But is it much too small in the scene? And, when you add shadows, make sure they only go over the ground and not - as yours does - over the river in the distance. A superb image from Frank, full of life and interest - and the ambulance slots perfectly in there, matching the tone and angle of the scene and giving a real focus to the whole picture. Very fine work, Frank - a perfect montage. A muted image from puffin31939, with the ambulance taking its place on a street - good angles, a good fit into the image. I like the rain effect in the second entry, but you need to watch the perspective - your horizon in the background is very much higher than that suggested by the shape of the ambulance. Your driver is also rather too big - there's no room for his body in there! - and you need to move him further back in the seat. _______________________ Several of you have put a driver at the wheel of the ambulance, and there's a strong tendency when doing this to place the driver so it looks like he's in the right position when viewed directly from the front: ![]() But of course we aren't viewing the ambulance from the front - we're seeing it from an oblique angle. With the driver situated this far forward, he's right up against the glass, and there's no room for his arms between his body and the steering wheel. In reality, the driver would be moved much further back in his seat - even if it means obscuring part of him by the pillar at the corner of the ambulance: ![]() It's a very easy thing to get wrong, and it can leave you staring at your montage trying to work out why it's not quite working. |

Thanks Steve - Jones refused to be a party to Walker's fake whisky scam so he had to recruit his old pal Flash 'Arry who had just left St Trinians under unfortunate circumstances ... _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Re: Challenge 475: The ambulance
Thanks Steve, I knew there was something not quite right, I think part of the problem was that my background was made up of 3 different images, So it was hard to get everything the right size. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

Re: Challenge 475: The ambulance
Thanks, Steve. I was unhappy with the rather cardboard cut-out driver but didn't know how to solve it. I am still not sure how to position the ambulance correctly. I will have a go now! _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |
