Although the headteacher lacked any formal qualifications Mr Gove felt sure that he would have no problems with discipline ...

(for those not following the vagaries of the English educational system it is now possible to set up a "free school" where none of the staff have any training or experience)

Hello everyone! I haven't been here in a long time. Nice work people. I think I might try to post something here again soon.

All a bit rushed - and I don't do last minute. Gave up on the shadows.

The tourist in the photo had hopped over the fence, disregarding the notice requesting people not to enter that area. This seems like justice!

I have this evening received my repaired computer after eight days without it.

I have had no time to use the original image, so I am showing two I made earlier (a few years ago), and I think it's still on topic

How dreadful, get a Mac, have never seen blue screen of death on my Mac's
Mind you I installed Maverick on my laptop yesterday and when it was finished, the screen said, Install failed, Disk Faulty. Erase disk and start again.
As there had been nothing wrong with my disk in the first place, I decided to ignore the 'Erase disk' and just hit the 'Install' button.
This time it worked without any problems. I have decided to wait awhile before I put Maverick on my desktop.

Re: Challenge 476: Quaddinosaur
A splendid image from ahmedalij started this week's proceedings - and it's a fantastic piece of work, full of life and interest. You have a great way of blending diverse material together, Ahmed - a really strong montage.

I spent some time trying to work out what would happen next in James's entry - that seems a strange way to hold a surprisingly docile and unconcerned pig. All becomes clear in the animated version, as the pig runs away and the dino chases after it - and then the pterodactyl swoops in to pick up the, er, whatever it is. As always, a great feel for animal movement, and your timing is impeccable.

A clever pun from Vahn, with a first Friday Challenge entry - and it's a well-achieved blending of the four heads into a single Quaddinosaur. You might take a look at Puppet Warp, though, which would allow you to bend those necks so they aren't quite so straight: I think this would give it a more natural feel. But I like the idea here.

I've seen that sculpture outside Le Royal in Nice, and it's good to see it cropping up in Linda Eckert's entertaining entry. There's a slight awkwardness of the positioning: is the dinosaur behind her, or in front? Is it about to bite her hand off? There's a lot of ambiguity, here, which may be intentional! But I like the way it's blended into the scene behind that bush.

A beautifully modelled kit box from tooquilos, with perfect rendering of the top and two sides - excellent choice of typeface, and details such as the barcode make a big difference. A fabulous animated entry, with a great sense of destructiveness, and a really neat ending. What a good idea!

I like Garfield72's family portrait, with the couple and the dinosaur posing on the beach. their clothes seem a little odd for that location, especially since the man's wearing jeans while standing in the water. But the dinosaur looks well at home there.

A prophetic image from GKB, with a rather nattily-clad caveman and his pet dinodog about to face extinction. I like the modern aspects - the dog biscuit, the collar and leash - and of course the meteorite in the background. Nice idea.

A beautiful image from Tom, full of late afternoon sun, with two dinosaurs on the beach. I like the warm tones used here, and the footprints in the sand. The dinosaur's shadow seems a little unnatural, perhaps; if it's as short as that the sun must be quite high in the sky, in which case from that angle you wouldn't be able to see the open mouth on the shadow, I suspect.

A very clever image from salfordnurse, with the dino head on an Elizabethan ruff. Fantastic blending of texture here, creating a perfect fit. And don't worry about the teeth - with 16th century hygiene, they'd probably have fallen out anyway. The answer: don't merge your layers!

A good entry from Ant Snell, featuring the kids' TV dinosaur that I came to hate with a surprising passion. Now if only it were having its head bitten off... hope you've recovering, Ant.

A clever image from Ben Mills, the signwriter presumably interrupted in the middle of defining the species. That's a fine handmade kennel, too, but these things always look more realistic when seen from a slight angle: head-on just says Artificial, and is to be avoided.

A fine setting from joeysala, with a forest that contains truly primeval-looking trees. I like the toy dinosaurs in the hands, and those other dinos coming out of the woods - a very good sense of scale here. And a really charming second entry - you've got the body language exactly right. Nice work.

A splendid 3D entry from Deborah Morley, with the dinosaur climbing out of that finely-wrought teacup clutching a 3D label in its mouth. It looks great in that position - and good work getting the foliage to reflect in the cup so convincingly. There are some good 3D dinosaur models out there, too, if you felt like experimenting.

A touch of politics from Josephine Harvatt, featuring the UK's Education Minister. (He's not a very media-savvy chap, as can be seen in this unfortunate shot.) But - a teacher wearing a mortarboard? What a dinosaur!

A very convincing night-vision image from brewell, with a great tonal range - and the way the eye stands out is exactly right. A tremendous sense of captured action here, Bruce. Very convincing.

A jungle encounter from Vibeke - but are they fighting? Looks more like they're having a cosy chat, and laughing at a joke. It's a great setting, very appropriate. I like the way the chap on the rock is about to eat one of the leaves on the tree - nice positioning. But it might be worth using Puppet Warp on the other tree to distort its shape slightly, so it doesn't look like an exact copy of the first.

A good image of micky47's dinosaur standing guard outside a prison - but trim the shadows around the feet, and make sure it goes on the railings at the back but not the distant trees. I like its appearance in the second entry too - but you need to add its reflection in that shiny floor.

A good sense of place from Frank, with the dinosaur rising out of the sea. You've taken some liberties with the legs, having one foot still in the water - but it does just about work. The shadow, though, seems rather out of place here; especially since there are no such well-defined shadows on this cloudy day. The result is that it makes the dinosaur look artificially placed. Lose the shadow and it will work better.

A homage to Marc Bolan from Mariner - great guitar holding, and I really like the way you've turned that hand upside down to get claws on the fretboard. You'd think a left-handed rock star could afford a left-handed guitar, though...

I'm not sure I understand Jota120's entry - but then that's nothing new. Care to elaborate, Trevor? Actually, on second thoughts, don't do that. I'm sure there's an irrational explanation.

A "rushed" image from puffin31939 - but the tonal blending of the dinosaur with its surroundings is spot on, and the shadows look great to me. Hugely convincing work - a splendid entry, Angela.

Sorry to see michael sinclair has computer problems... but I like that animated entry, which has a lot of life to it, as well as the toothpaste ad in the second entry. Good giffing! Hope your PC recovers soon.

A very entertaining week!

Exactly the same, but upside down. With the guitar you've used there, the volume and tone knobs will get in the way of the strumming hand; and the cutout to allow the other fretboard hand to reach the high frets needs to be on the other side.

Thanks for that. And I thought all you had to do was flip it horizontally. I wonder if an additional vertical flip would have sorted it out. No need to reply.

Thanks Steve. An extended shared family surname friend won the Rastafarian in Blackpool. As you do!? Perfect with the scales effect I thought. I think he'd had too much cannabis and started seeing dinosaurs, or scared them off table.... Just a bit of kitsch fun
