Some great entries. Bruce I laughed out loud when I saw yours.."The Usual Suspects" . They all look so cute and innocent standing there

Don't let their looks fool you, Anna, they're all killers.

I have a bird identification book that has a similar image, only it's songbirds that are in the line-up. I wonder what they are guilty of?

Some excellent work here this week! I'm afraid I don't get much time lately to do FC's and I can't compete with some of these entries..

Yes, I can. I often find something new in PS. It's part of the fascination.

Re: Challenge 494: The eagle
A speedy entry from Steve Hill, who has grafted the head onto a new eagle's body. It works well - but there's something about the position of that eagle, dead straight and dead centre, that makes it look unreal (even though it isn't). I like the selfie in the second entry - nicely worked together! Perhaps a touch more smudging on my hair?

Very neat rebuilding from GKB, with an artfully constructed bird. The wing seems a little truncated, and perhaps a little too sharp on the edges: maybe feather those feathers?

Very neat blending from Garfield72, resulting in a seamless merging of the eagle onto the new body. Something a little odd going on, texturally, on the right - too much shadow?

Typically clever work from Josephine Harvatt, for which you need to know a bit of English history. First, "Eddie the Eagle" was for years the UK's only Olympic ski jump contestant, who continued to represent the country despite having no aptitude for the sport whatsoever. Secondly, the original picture is a portrait of King Edward VI (thanks, Tineye). Funny.

A beautiful piece of grafting from Deborah Morley, who has combined the eagle with... a squirrel? or some such small rodent. Very neatly done - I'd like to have seen it eating something from those hands.

A precise graft from Frank, with a very convincing assembly. Is the head perhaps a fraction too big? It seems larger than that on the bird next to it.

A splendid chimera of an eagle, ostrich, zebra and at least one other species from Ant Snell - set against a fine African backdrop. I would point out that you can see the joins, but that's hardly the point! However, I will draw your attention to the black painting around the zebra legs: did you mean to paint on a mask instead?

Extraordinary work from James, with an eagle that darts around between positions. The timing is impeccable, as ever, and the moment when it dips its head down is a real treat. Best of all, though, is the immaculate turning of the head: Liquify rules! Magnificent, James. ANd I really enjoyed the flapping in the second entry - that looks like a great ride.

A happy eagle, indeed, on Nick Curtain's pub sign - beaming all over its face. Is that a real pub? Nice work.

I like srawland's incorporation of the gryphon into the recent background - a good setting, and moving it out of focus helps draw attention to the animal. A great choice of body and wings: would it be more convincing, though, if the body were a closer colour to the feathers?

Very tickled by brewell's police line-up - I've never seen a more shifty array of birds! Very nicely achieved. Stark and effective.

A touch of the Aztecs from tooquilos, with the head making a very fine mask. Beautiful lettering at the start of the animated version, and indeed a beautiful background to the main scene. I like the special effects going on here - fun in After Effects! As always, though, I have to remember to turn my computer volume down before playing one of your animations... I don't think we share the same taste in music!

A very stylised image from Mariner, with a symmetrical location for the neatly chained bird. Is it wearing trousers? Or do eagles' legs really look like that? And who is Robert?

A subtle entry from joeysala and of course it's one that represents the scene perfectly. Very subtle reflections, great distortion, an excellent job.

Linda Eckert's entry brought back a childhood memory of taking part in a school fancy dress competition when I was 6, and my mum making me an eagle costume... something I haven't thought about for nearly half a century. Linda's entry, though, has a beautifully opened mouth and the eagle plainly bursting into song. Very good work! I like the human hands and feet.

A fine chimera in a glass case from tissana, with a very surreal entry. I like the box, but the horizon is too high behind it: the top and bottom of the box are vanishing lines which will point to where the horizon should be.

Thanks Steve. I think African Tawny Eagles really do look like they are wearing trousers. I picked Robert for his name, killer is his nature.

Thanks Steve - I was just looking for a generic tudor portrait and when I found one that said Edward it all fell into place - serendipity !

Re: Challenge 494: The eagle
Thanks Steve. I Googled eagle pub signs and had to remove the existing flying eagle and change the lettering.

Thanks Steve, I agree with you about the body color, but when I created it I was still getting comfortable with curves. I actually did lighten the wings a bit, but I didn't think to darken the body. I appreciate the feedback. The devil is in the details.

Re: Challenge 494: The eagle
Thanks Steve - I think it's the way the head is turned and the left bird is a little more forward making it look larger.
