OK, so I noticed a lot of black fringing so I'm trying it again. I don't want to be de-monikerized for missing something like that. _________________ I'm still learning. |

Re: Challenge 501: The Young Etonian
Just to make it clear, I know this couldn't possibly happen as Royal children are well insulated from mingling with disreputable individuals, and we will won't be seeing A&E host "Intervention: Royals" any time soon. Queen Elizabeth has been remarkably open with Royal life over the years, but she does have her limits. Oh, and I should mention that the face in the original image had the gaunt cheeks and wild-eyed look of someone high on Meth. Much to the chagrin of his father, King George V, Prince Henry started hanging out with the wrong crowd. ![]() _________________ I'm still learning. |

Re: Challenge 501: The Young Etonian
I have not had too much time to do the challenges in the past 2 month. The country that I grew up in, is in the verge of a civil war. I am very happy that with all the Photoshop that I've learned here over the years, and also with Steve's Photoshop books, I've been able to help (from USA) my country by making daily all kinds of communications via pictures, flyers, and posters for the resistance. Very happy to have a minute to be back here again. #SOS Venezuela. ![]() |

Ha! This oldster immediately thought of Moseley not Lee Harvey. Is that an Eton rifles reference there perchance? _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

For the life of me I can't figure out the cast shadows.......so I'll attribute the lack of said shadows to poor/old photgraph. ![]() ![]() _________________ "Imagination, not invention, is the supreme master of art........" Joseph Conrad |

Re: Challenge 501: The Young Etonian
A seriously updated image from Ben Mills kicked off this week's entries - although I'm glad to see he retained the top hat, which looks rather racy. A good approximation of the original pose, with attitude - and I like the Eton setting. A curious image from Ant Snell, who seems a little confused about the antics of Eton schoolboys and, indeed, about male anatomy. A very entertaining montage, though, with the new nicely blended in with the old. Detailed work from Garfield72, with new clothes artfully fitted to the original body. I like the fact that you've even given him new trainers. And removing the boy in the background must have been tricky - good work. A clever shot from Tom, blending the head onto the body of... Lee Harvey Oswald? Good tonal matching, but don't forget to add the shadow of the top hat on the ground! A splendid image from brewell, whose Prince Henry is leading the Coldstream Guards dressed in a clown outfit - while perfectly matching the original pose. Really funny, Bruce, and beautifully realised. A thoughtful makeover from Vibeke, with a well-fitting leather jacket and jeans, and a T-shirt that shows the Eton collar poking out beneath. The baseball cap looks a little drawn, though - I think the lack of shading on the NZ logo might contribute to the flatness. And is it just me, or does he seem to have his trainers on the wrong feet? I like the colouring in the second entry - but the pink pavement seems a little over the top. An excellent updating from Ben Boardman, with a great new jacket and waistcoat. Great details in the bag, the new cap and especially the bluetooth headset, but it's the girl watching him that really draws the eye - a great expression. Are the shadows a little too strong for an overcast day? A new member this week, and DavidMac has come up with a clever situation in which the top hat is entirely appropriate. Great colouring on the face, and especially good colouring on the hat, picking up the lighting in the scene. As far as online picture sources go, David, I tend to take the view that it's all in fun, no-one's making a profit out of the imagery and no-one has been hurt by the process of borrowing their images. So far, we've had no complaints from rights holders in the 10 years the Forum has been running, so I think you're safe to use whatever sources you like - although when I post the starting images, I'm always careful to choose those that are in the public domain or that I've photographed myself. Welcome to the forum! An intriguing image from tooquilos, featuring a nattily-dressed Prince Henry and a ventriloquist's dummy. What can it all mean? The animated version explains all, with a What The Butler Saw style film showing Henry's magical transformation. Clever! I like the dummy's movement, and those fire flashes. And thanks for sharing the source files - most interesting to see. Very clever work from michael sinclair, who typically has taken the opposite course to the brief: here, Fred Astaire sports Henry's body, performing a neat jiggle dance. Watch the glitch in the arm where it joins the shoulder on the left, and the slight ghosting on the right - otherwise, this is great stuff. An excellent image from srawland, with an electric guitar-playing Prince dressed in decidedly casual clothes. I like the new hat, and the hair that goes with it - a very good updating. Nice work. Good to see Emy back with a strong surfing image, neatly backlit to match the dark shading on Henry's face. There's still a strong shadow of the hat over his forehead, though; maybe he needs another hat to explain it. Although I do like the new hair. Best of luck with your Venezuela campaign, Emy. I enjoyed Josephine Harvatt's entry, which shows just how close the Eton uniform is to the Steampunk dress style - and the added jeans are a really nice touch. But come on, bling the poor boy up, and at least add some dismantled clock parts to the hat. A fine new body from Frank, which really fits the face, and a very good location. But look at the rest of the shadows in the image: the strong sunlight means they're quite crisp, and not fuzzy at the edges. A well-judged entry from joeysala, with neatly fitting hoodie top and curious jeans. The trainers are exceptionally well matched - those foot angles are very tricky. Is there something odd going on with the neck, though? There seems to be a dark patch where no shadow is cast. A splendid quilted jacket from Deborah Morley, and a good pose altogether - I like the casualness of the hands in the pockets. You're right about the back foot, but in your defence it is a remarkably hard angle to match. I like the top and jeans chosen by BigVern, and those outsized glasses do turn the hat into more of a figure of fun. The back foot seems rather twisted around, though, as if he's trying to wrap it around the front foot. A tricky angle! A superb studio shot from Emil, with an excellent new body, and a remarkably well chosen haircut that neatly conceals the shadow over the forehead. A faultless entry - well done indeed, Emil. |

Thanks Steve, I tried to bend and warp the new clothes to match the existing body shape and afraid ran out of time on the twisted foot. By the way ... congratulation on 5000 posts! You must have tired fingers by now ... and thankfully a very agile and creative mind. _________________ "The true story of a real fake" Catch Me If You Can |

Thanks Steve, yes I agree the shadows are too strong, particularly when I look at the other shadows in the scene. |
