--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Josephine, to delete one of the pictures, go to the picture, go to edit tab and when it opens up, erase the whole lines until the box is completely empty and save the changes. I know this because it happens to me all the time. I hope it works for you. _________________ Why not! |

Have you guys got Hints turned on? They should get you there. ![]() I'll give one hint (especially room 1, game 2) play it in a darkened room. A couple of clues are hidden in quite dark areas which are hard to see if there is a lot of ambient light on your screen. |

Hi Steve, I've made a few additions to balance out your desk: last Saturday's full moon to complement your globe; the gargoyle, Pazuzu (What desk wouldn't like its own purple gargoyle?); a model ship...in this case, a wrecked fishing boat on the Fraser River; coins of some sort...here a painted, oversize Canadian quarter opposite the moon; a worn address sign; and a retouched photo of a long gone relative. Enjoy! ![]() |

Re: Challenge 513: Finish my desk
I know Steve said to finish his desk, but I am uncomfortable with modifying someone else's art. If it were my own, I would encrust it with all the little "treasures" I have found on my walks. I did make two very minor additions. I believe that every desk should have a dinosaur. Above the little house that connects to the stairway, I added a model of a Hadrosaur. I choose that particular dinosaur because there is evidence that they cared for their young for a protracted amount of time. Anyone who writes books about fun activities to do with his children is probably a good parent, hence my choice of dinosaur. I also took a picture of my pipestone turtle and placed it close to the lamp. The turtle is a Sioux talisman for creation, protection and longevity. It was given to me as a blessing. I am willing to part with it virtually, but not actually as it is one of the most precious things in my possession. Unfortunately, it is quite small. However, it is a little larger in the image than it is in reality. Oh, and I would have made it more of an exhibit, but I ran out of time. -Sara ![]() _________________ I'm still learning. |

Re: Challenge 513: Finish my desk
First to enhance the desk this week was sciteach, with a rather neat quartet of water slides. I like the idea here - perhaps we need some miniature people to demonstrate how they work? I greatly enjoyed James's animated version, with so much going on you need to watch it a dozen times to see everything. There's the gold ball, that slides in front of the globe before moving round the back and dropping to the ground; the scurrying crocodile; the spinning globe, which opens to reveal the celestial ball inside... I just wish I had the time and expertise to make all this happen! I liked all of Linda Eckert's enhancements, which suit the style of the desk very well - in particular, that very ornate grand piano, and the art deco woman in yellow. A great selection of additions. A new workshop location from Emy, with some good new elements: the lanterns hang rather neatly, and I like the seashell on the surface. Why the white background behind the staircase, though? I'm not sure what this adds. Oh, and watch your perspective! Even though it's on a table, the perspective of the desk still needs to match the background. Customary destruction from michael sinclair. And again. Some spectacular additions from brewell: the organ pipes, the typewriter, that splendid French desk and the elephant foot stand, the bunch of hanging fish... these are all fantastic extra elements. I just wish I could get my hands on some of this stuff to make some more pieces! As a fan of Ray Bradbury, though, shouldn't there be an illustrated man among this lot? I was very intrigued by Sjef's minimalist entry - a blue chair hung on the side. Is there an artistic reference here that I'm failing to see? But I like the way it's been achieved, with subtle shadows both cast on the chair by the desk and, indeed, cast on the desk by the chair. Nicely calculated. I long known that Ben Mills had an eye for the ladies, of course, and it's good to see such an elegant woman adorning my desk. I really must strengthen it to support such a load! Very tickled by Josephine Harvatt's Desk-o-tron - and as it happens, I have been toying with the idea of building a pipe organ for some time. Those pipes certainly make a fine backdrop. I have to query your use of piano pedals, though! A truly glorious entry from tooquilos, with some fantastic additions: the ouija board, the plasma sphere, the orrery planets, the astounding elephant clock, the sword and the egg timer, the glass skull and the birdcage, the candles and the elephant stool... and I particularly like the mouse from a few Challenges back tottering down the steps. These are all additions I should seriously consider! And a great array of movement in the animated version - love the spinning globe, in particular, and the trickling sand in the egg timer. And that glass skull is beautiful! A really funny entry from Frank, with the addition of a cello wine rack (most appealing in itself) and a doll's house... but what I really like is the box, with its large Some Assembly Required sticker, and the glue and screwdriver sitting on the desk... most entertaining. Good to see the desk incorporated into a larger work by Ant Snell, and with a fine Gothic background (I've always wanted to live in an abandoned church). Everything blends together really neatly here, and the overall effect is strong: but I'm not sure I'd opt for the symmetry of having a desk either side! A beautifully modelled wine bottle and glass from Deborah Morley, with excellent attention to detail: the refraction through the glass, the transparency, the lighting direction and shadows, and above all the inspired reflections of the lamp shade in both elements. Perfectly achieved, this really looks convincing. Some good extras from Daniel Millar, all nestling very neatly in and around the desk. The moon balances the globe rather neatly, and I like your comment: "What desk wouldn't like its own purple gargoyle". Indeed so. "I believe that every des should have a dinosaur", says srawland - and I heartily agree. I'll attend to it straight away. I really like the fact that you've placed the desk in an exhibition with so many other examples of my work - well tracked down! That chair, on the right, is my latest piece, and this is certainly a direction I'll be heading in. Some magnificent objects from joeysala: the crying face is splendid, as is the monkey man at the bottom. I really like the extended staircase, and that sitting figure is a very worth addition (I've been looking for a figure to go on the staircase but have yet to find the right one). And that's a splendid fish, but I might have some difficulty suspending those bubbles! Thanks to everyone for the splendid suggestions. I'm spending this weekend doing a tour of the flea markets around Calais, and now I've got a much better idea of what to look out for. |

Re: Challenge 513: Finish my desk
Thank you so much Steve and James!!. I thoroughly enjoyed this challenge. With the skull, you can buy them filled with Vodka and I have seen them in Duty Free stores. They come in a variety of sizes. I have 2 (still with Vodka in them as I dont drink lol) Some people have converted them into lights with LED’s. Just type vodka skull into Ebay search engine and you will get some ideas. Have fun at the flea markets!! ![]() _________________ Wicked Witch of the West: I'm melting! I'm melting! |

Thanks Steve. The additions (monkey man, crying face - both sculptures, the fish - a painting, the nude - a photograph) are my art work. Much fun including them! _________________ "Imagination, not invention, is the supreme master of art........" Joseph Conrad |

Re: Challenge 513: Finish my desk
Thank you, Steve. I actually didn't have to do that much tracking down. As you known the blue, seated woman I used in The woodwork shop Challenge. For the Amnesty Challenge I had considered doing one that was posted before my joining the forum, I stumbled on the dragon and loved it so I copied it. For the other two, I just googled: "Steve Caplin Sculpture". When I saw the chair I said to myself, "Cool, that's got to be in the exhibit!" I did not know it was your latest work. I wanted to put in one more sculpture but I was running out of time. As I mentioned when I posted my submission, if it had been my sculpture, I would have encrusted it with my treasures I find while walking. Only if it were my sculpture, it wouldn't be a desk but a small boat, and the treasures would be attached below the waterline like barnacles. Below is a sampling of what I have. The coins are there both as treasures and as size references. ![]() _________________ I'm still learning. |
