Re: Challenge 515: Vive la résistance!
I took another look at my entry and decided that the car really ought to be back farther and raising more dust. Steve, please feel free to remove my first submission. ![]() _________________ I'm still learning. |

It was the ropes that set this one in motion - so to speak. ![]() |

Re: Challenge 515: Vive la résistance!
A great image from Lorenzo1977 starts this week's entries, with the tone of the background exactly matching the car. Normally I'd say the car is too far away for the strong perspective, but you've chosen a setting with equally strong perspective so it does sort of work. Good to see you back! An action shot from sciteach, with the car leaping out of a shelled building - would that be powered by the gas tanks on its roof? I like the idea, but the car is huge compared to that tank and the people in the foreground! A very moody scene from Frank, with two of the cars in a deserted, bombed street. When you're adding a black and white object to a colour scene, the trick is to add a little colour to the black as well: so a slight blue tint to the chrome, and perhaps a touch of red in the black, would help the cars to blend in. A couple of resistance fighters adorn GKB's entry - and while I certainly applaud the undoubted historical accuracy of the weaponry, I do think an eight-foot woman might have stood out in rural France. Is she, perhaps a touch on the big side? A packed scene from tooquilos, with the car aflame and wrecked on an outcrop of rocks - with a load of action going on around it. A great idea including La Coupole in the animated version, and there are some great gunfire and flame effects in there - and I do like the bombing of the building, although I'd have placed the fire entirely inside it, rather than having the base of the flame in front of the building. And, er, don't you think a spot of Marlene Dietrich might have been a more appropriate soundtrack? I like Ben Boardman's montage of elements, including the wrecked train and the two soldiers in the foreground. But there are some oddities of scale here - the driver, for instance, seems rather too small to be in control of such a large vehicle. And there's something odd about the man next to him: is he inside the car? In which case, why is he transparent? Or outside, in which case why can we see the car body through him? Those of you in the UK of a certain age will remember 'Allo 'Allo, a TV comedy set in the French Resistance which, even by the standards of the 1980s, was absolutely awful (although since it ran for 10 years, this may just be my view). Anyway, Ant Snell has squeezed almost the entire cast into this scene, which I believe to be a reference to an episode about a missing painting. Nice assembly - but why is the car squashed vertically? A historically faded image from brewell, with the car being hoist by a bomb dropped from that passing plane. Very nicely achieved - but is the image just a little too washed out? I like the blur at the back of srawland's car, as it hurtles out of the bombed town. But with that much perspective, it needs to be a lot closer to the camera. And what explains the fact that two wheels are off the ground? I like the added figure in the second entry, but is he a touch too dark? He's even darker than the black car. Glad you're getting on well with the tablet! I like the timing in James's entry, as the car stops to pick up a woman carrying a... sword? Bayonet? Cucumber? Couldn't work that out, James. And why is she in black and white when he isn't? An excellent scene from Garfield72, with a group of Resistance fighters arranged around the car. Great tonal matching, but do watch your perspective: the background is leaning to the right, while the car is leaning to the left. A clever scene from michael sinclair, in which the two-stage GIF really does pass for fluid motion. That's one hell of a bumpy road, though! I like the way the car is so subtly concealed in Darren's entry - I only just made it out beneath the tank tracks. It's clearly made of strong stuff! Excellent matching of grain from puffin31939, with the car blending very well into that scene. It does seem to be dripping down towards the left, though, a fact that's made more obvious by all the horizontal lines in the background. It really is a tricky perspective! Very fine work from Daniel Millar, who has crashed the car on the side of the road at exactly the right angle. And an excellent background scene: those two women add so much to the scene. The driver in Linda Eckert's car has been perfectly placed inside the vehicle, and the flag is a very nice touch. But I'm a little baffled by the Red Square setting, and the very 21st Century bunch of kids... is there a hidden story here I'm failing to see? When I photographed the car I was aware that the suspension cables might be a particular challenge, so I was most entertained to see Deborah Morley's solution: turn them into ropes and hang it from a parachute. A terrific idea - but is that a costumed superhero at the wheel? More ropes from Emy, whose car is being loaded onto the deck of a battleship - although the battleship does appear to be in a sorry state of repair. Do remember to remove those cable wheel supports! Great work this week. I didn't comment individually on your skill in removing the cables and the wheel anchors, but you all did a very fine job in this area. Excellent. |

Re: Challenge 515: Vive la résistance!
Thank you Steve for you critique. Your comments are always helpful.
I was trying to give the impression that the car took the curve so fast that it went up on two wheels. And, I didn't add the figure. He was original to the image. It's just that before he was enveloped in dust. When I moved the car back I moved the dust cloud as well and he appeared. Obviously, this wasn't one of my better efforts. If you ever run an amnesty again, I will re-enter this one. Have a great holiday! _________________ I'm still learning. |

Many thanks, Steve for checking my entry. Here the original picture. I used it surching a fitting perspective for placing your car. And of course, behind the imagination always a true story hides. Я люблю Москва. Бон вояж и счастливых праздников ! ![]() |

Re: Challenge 515: Vive la résistance!
Thanks, Steve. Yes, I gave up on trying to get the perspective right - I don't have the 'eye' for it. But maybe practice will eventually get me there... _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |
