Re: Challenge 516: Le coq bizarde
After looking at my submission I decided the Microraptor with the Le coq bizarde head looked more like a magpie than a dinosaur. I hope this image conveys the proper prehistoric feel I was trying to obtain. The other dinosaur is a small theropod called sinosauropteryx which was the first dinosaur discovered to have feathers that was not a bird or a direct relative of birds. Both Sinosauropteryx and Microraptor lived in what is now China during the early Cretaceous period (130 -125 million years ago) in open wooded areas, so this scene was entirely probable. Both were small predators. I'm sure if one of the other members with animation skill had come up with this idea, we would have been treated to a lunch date between the two dinosaurs. Alas, you all will have to be satisfied with a static image. ![]() _________________ I'm still learning. |

I hope the next challenge will allow us to express more of our potential and ability ![]() Entitled "which one is it going to be?" NB I did go to some trouble to make the bird look more realistically natural and lifelike. ![]() ![]() |

Re: Challenge 516: Le coq bizarde
A ghostly scene from sciteach kicks off this week's entries, with a scary cockerel in a scary setting. I like the feel of this very much; perhaps the bird could do with some footprints in that wet sand? How does a weird bird draw attention away from its horn? By sprouting peacock feathers, of course. At least, that's Ant Snell's interpretation, and who could argue with him. I like the green head. Very amused by Josephine Harvatt's Christmas turkey - a great fit, although I feel I must point out that birds' legs usually go at the front, rather than the back. A very realistic image from ahmedalij, with no weapons and no explosions, which is a real change. Perhaps a little larger on the head? Does it seem too small for the body? Good to see you back, ahmed. A very proud cockerel from Garfield72, with a perfect fit on that body. I like the way you've added the comb to the head. An excellent piece of headgear from Linda Eckert, with the bird sprouting from the top of the woman's hair. Now that would make an entrance! I like srawland's dinosaur mashup, to which the head appears to fit perfectly. I'd go for more dappled lighting, though, given the forest background. A much better feel in the second entry, certainly - well revisited. Two rather classy boiled egg toppers from DavidMac, which work nicely. Not sure about the wacky colouring, but I like the idea. An excellent blend from brewell producing a new head for Satan - and I like the fact that the head is comically small, which makes him look ridiculous. Have you tinkered with the expression? He does look rather gormless. I see tooquilos has put the bird back into another glass case - grafted onto the body of a rabbit, it would appear. I like the idea in the animated version that the Easter Bunny is linked with the Tooth Fairy! Great thermal imaging, and I like the headlight effects. A terrific running effect from James, whose bird is leaping past an endlessly-scrolling landscape. Nicely achieved - but that's an oddly soft cutout, James. An extraordinary fighting scene from darren, with mutant birds battling it out. Having checked out your starting image I can see what a lot of work you've put into this. Tremendous - a really active scene, beautifully accomplished. A glorious moment from Emy, with an impeccable blending of the head into the body of the eagle. Perfect matching, a very restrained, expert entry. A long-legged chicken from Deborah Morley, in its native habitat. I like the extra colouring on the beak and eye, and the out-of-focus bird in the background. Nicely posed. A very funny entry from Frank - and something of a chimera, with an eagle's wings and a lion's tale. Hmm... there could be a Friday Challenge in this... A clever entry from Daniel Millar, whose bird with the corkscrew head is carrying a can opener to get into the sweet corn. Love the leather boots! An entertaining entry from michael sinclair, although I'm puzzling over the relevance of the man in the bondage gear. One small point: isn't his leg too far forwards, given that he's standing behind the bin? |

Re: Challenge 516: Le coq bizarde
Thank you, Steve, for your critique. I found this especially difficult because there aren't any dinosaur photographs. One of the reasons the head fits so well on the body is because there is a theory that dinosaurs are still with us. One branch of the theropods (both Sinosauropteryx and Microraptor were theropods) evolved into birds. I am subscriber to this theory.
I did add some dappling to the Le coq bizarde/Microraptor, but I guess it doesn't stand out enough. I'm glad to see you are back and I hope your holiday went well. _________________ I'm still learning. |
