Skeleton service only today! Not sure about the sizes of my skeletons having made them all smaller as I didn't think they would fit through the doors - and of course THAT perspective! ![]() _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |

I prefer the fluorescent version myself - more atmospheric. Some really juicy ones this week! _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Deborah, I think we will consider it a case of great minds thinking alike! I find it very amusing that we have come up with virtually the same idea. I like your dogs(?). I never thought of adding animals. Angela _________________ Man cannot change the direction of the wind but he can adjust the sails |

Re: Challenge 520: Platform Zero
A splendid steam train from Ant Snell, with a ghostly station master standing in front of it. I like all the steam cascading around the platform. But when you distorted the train to match the angle of the platform, you also distorted the front of it. Look how the base is sloping down to the left: that won't do! Easy enough here to cut the front into a separate layer, and distort it back the other way. I like brewell's mix of positive and negative people, presumably resulting of a balance of zero*. A very fine crowd, queued up perfectly ready to board the train - a nice idea! A very fine image from sciteach, whose platform has disappeared entirely, leaving a yawning (gaping?) chasm. Beautifully achieved, with a subtle shadow of the edge of the train and the bicycle at the bottom. I like the people about to step into it. Very good work. A nightmare fantasy from Ben Mills, with a giant caterpillar about to be boarded by ants. Inspired by the 000000 name on the platform sign? And I know this sounds absurd, but those ants could do with reflections in the shiny platform... A powerful armoured train from ahmedalij, which matches the perspective of the station well - although the solider next to it seems a little too high for the scene, as if he's floating. I like the second entry a lot better - that submarine looks excellent (but fix the perspective on the tower) and these soldiers are much more compelling. A Thomas-like animation from James, with a train hurtling into the platform and winking before zooming out again. Did you know the eyes remain after the train has gone? Spooky! A beautiful image from tooquilos, with a completely reworked station. There's a tremendous sense of age and decay here, and the ghostly blue and green light looks fantastic. I especially like the details such as the caged light, the cracked sign and the broken platform. Wonderful. The animated version adds some spectacular effects, starting with a ghost disappearing down a tunnel: then there's the light inside the train, the ghost coming out of the manhole... splendid work, Anna! Although I did have to turn the volume down. I think you and I just have different taste in music! A homage to the Third Man from DavidMac - I can almost hear the Harry Lime theme playing in the background. And the cinemascope image shape fits perfectly. I think you're right to take out the lighting in the second entry - but shouldn't you lose its reflection in the platform as well? A horror film setting from Emy, with a haunted child and some beautifully crafted graffiti on the train. I like the stranger walking away, too, and all the mist floating about - although he does seem rather too big compared to the size of the train. A subtle scene from srawland, with a very dark station and just the shadow of a noose suggesting there's more going on. Nice work - but why is the noose hanging in space? Where's the rest of the rope? A playful scene from GKB, as Harry Potter takes on the Thomas franchise in Lego... I can't even begin to count how many intellectual property laws you've broken here, Gordon, but at least there are no Disney characters involved. Great golden snitch, by the way. A touch of politics from Josephine Harvatt: Dr Beeching was the consultant who, at a stroke, cut vast numbers of uncommercial services from Britain's rail network, leaving many communities entirely isolated. And there he is, standing at the door of the carriage. Rather poignant, this. A large number of ghosts from Ben Boardman, including what looks like a young Winston Churchill... it's like an anniversary episode of Doctor Who. I particularly like the way you've opened the doors and created the interior of the carriage, most effective! A great cartoon character from darren - what a terrific face that is! A wonder East Coast rail don't use it in their advertising. I especially like the teeth and the tongue. I really enjoyed puffin31939's skeleton service - very entertaining! And I think they are all more or less the right size for the platform. Very nice work - I particularly like the one inside the train. THere's a real story behind Linda Eckert's image - although I do want to see the scene with the parents, inside the train. Small point: when making motion blur, change the angle so it follows the angle of the train. When the train is in perspective like this, you need to undistort it first and then distort it back again - unless you have Photoshop CC 2014, of course, in which case you can now taper the blur. A really funny image from Garfield72, with a Scotsman in a kilt that's been blown up by what appears to be a jet train. Do such things really exist? A good image - but watch the perspective on the train, which needs to be smaller at the back to match the angle of the roof. A great set of skeletons from Deborah Morley, complete with fine reflections in the platform surface. I like the horse leaving through the open door! A well chosen crowd from Vibeke, who all seem to have just missed the train. The reflections work well, but are perhaps a little too well defined: maybe setting them to Multiply would blend them in better? A fascinating image from Mariner, which retains only the columns from the original. Harry Potter and a pregnant Hermione? What on earth can it all mean? A very spooky scene from Frank, with a variety of ghosts and ghouls competing for our attention. But - watch your eyelines, Frank! I was standing at ground level when I took this photograph! A magic lens from Daniel Millar, revealing the ghostly reality beneath the surface. Beautifully realised, with a subtle colour wash and Munch's Scream wafting over the top... and is that me floating in the corner, neatly reflected in the platform? Very nice work indeed, Daniel, and certainly one to earn you a title. So how about Ghost Controller for this most entertaining image. I enjoyed michael sinclair's entry, as I often do, which once again has nothing to do with the original image. Oh well - it's a pretty scene. But since you chose both the setting and the trains, I feel I have to point out that the perspective of the train on the left in no way matches the background - and has the right train been squashed to fit, or is it really that squat? *A chemist, a biologist and a statistician go hunting. The chemist takes a shot at a deer, and misses five feet to the left. The biologist takes a shot, and misses five feet to the right. The statistician yells: "Got him!" |
