Thanks, Anna. I was wondering if the vote goes YES, does Great Britain become Pretty Good Britain? _________________ The journey of a thousand hours begins with a single layer. |

Not wishing to get political - but it is just so sad to see our country being torn apart. Whatever happens, it will never be the same again. Meanwhile back in Photoshop land…. ![]() |

Re: Challenge 522: Welcome to Scotland?
The votes are in - and, but a majority of 55% to 45%, Scotland is to remain part of the United Kingdom. Many in Scotland will be disappointed, but many more in England and the rest of the world will be greatly relieved. A decisive view from GKB, our only (I think) Scottish member, who clearly believes the right decision has been taken. A great sense of destruction, poverty and chaos here - with the man in the foreground explaining the whole scene. So - did you get a vote, Gordon? Ant Snell shows Prime Minister David Cameron being chased from the border by a horde of Braveheart extras. I like the use of flags, and the broken road surface; but why are they sitting in a bunker? And why does the British bulldog (nice touch) appear to be floating at Cameron's hip level? A dramatic border scene from ahmedalij, with his trademark deep red and yellow palette. I like the added tanks, watchtower and helicopter, and especially the barbed wire fence. For sciteach, the road to devolution leads straight into Loch Ness - and there's the monster grazing in the lake. I like the ruined castle, a nice touch. A lone bagpiper marks the newly red road surface at Vibeke's border, in which a number of picturesque buildings have sprung up. I don't get the significance of the E-Type Jaguar on the English side - am I missing something? A hopeful scene from Frank, for whom independence means booming prosperity, as evinced by the new crop of high-rise buildings. Good new signs, and I like the piper tucked in the side. A rebuilding of Hadrian's Wall from Ben Mills, manned - or rather, peopled - by a surprisingly buxom border guard. A great idea, Ben, and I like the view from inside the car: but unless your car has a headlight out, shouldn't she be casting two shadows? A finely-wrought border crossing from srawland, with a beautifully worked-in control room at just the right angle. There's something a little odd about the guard, though, and it took me a while to work out what it was. Trace the line of his feet to the left, and you'll see he's actually standing in front of the barrier - while his body is behind it. A really funny entry from brewell, with a tosser (if you'll pardon the expression) appearing to do the impossible by using his caber as a barrier. Ingenious, and I love the tartan road surface! A couple of sets of typical Scots from Josephine Harvatt. I get the bunch in the foreground, but what did you Google to find a group of men in kilts mooning at the camera? As usual, michael sinclair has ignored the starting image, and instead grafted Scottish first minister Alex Salmond's head onto the Loch Ness monster. Couple of points, Michael: when deleting sky, be careful not to leave a border around the top of the image; remember that an object immersed in water has a hard edge where it meets the surface, not soft; I'm not sure Craquelure can really simulate reptile skin; and be careful with your Displace settings so you don't produce a flag with implausible lumps in the design. Not sure I really get the second entry - but at least it includes an element from the original image! A scene of wanton destruction from tooquilos, with Braveheart Mel Gibson ruggedly guarding what remains of the border. A great scene of damage and desolation. I like the lip movement in the animated version - but have you come across Crazy Talk, which automates the whole process? A subtle entry from Mariner, but beautifully achieved: the sculpture and its plinth slot neatly into the surroundings, and look wholly in place there. What's the hand made of, though? That seems a bit pink for bronze. A great idea from Emy, with a hugely congested border crossing. The fence in the foreground adds a real sense of distance and isolation - a really neat addition. A moody scene from Deborah Morley, showing Alex Salmond sheltering beneath his tartan umbrella. Has he turned his back on Scotland, then? And is he soaked up to the knees? Remember when you reflect items such as signs, you need to skew all of them - including the white one - individually. A rather entertaining border control from Darren, with a pair of Scotsmen in kilts in front of a newly built row of ionic columns. Watch your shadows: they'd never be as soft as that. Look at the shadows on the building behind. I like Garfield72's cow trap, which will allow cars to enter but keep the beef out. You do need to watch your ground levels: the man is standing behind the sign, but his feet are some distance in front of it. Simple solution: make the pole holding the sign longer. A glorious celebration from Eva Roth, who has tracked down a series of images of jubilant Scots. I like the way they're all clustered around the sign, and the overall feeling of enthusiasm. An extraordinary animation from James, with a haggis warning blimp passing over the new border control as an apparently driverless car with a G-Force number plate passes through. Please explain! |
