No need to flatten or reduce the longest side first - you can do all that within Save for Web. |

Well, you learn something new every day! Having been brought up on 'Save for Web' in CS2 and earlier I didn't realise that Adobe had provided this function in later versions. Is it available on CS3/4 as well? _________________ ![]() |

As far as I can recall, that functionality has always been in there, right from when SFW was first introduced. |

Re: Challenge 524: Flying hippos
Found it! In CS2 it's hidden away under a tab called, strangely enough, 'image size'. As I said 'you learn something new every day'; so far today it's two things and it's not even midday yet! ![]() _________________ You're never too old to learn something stupid. |

Hello everyone, great entries. "Use it or lose it" - it was a little bit tricky to make Hippo's body. ![]() |

Unfortunately, I've only had 40 minutes to create this due to my Internet connection being down since Saturday. I would have liked to have spent more time on this. ![]() _________________ I'm still learning. |

Re: Challenge 524: Flying hippos
A fun-packed entry from GKB, with a hippo that's not only flying but carrying an acrobat - to the delight of the assembled press crew. Good use of the subtle shadow on the ground beneath the hippo; but the man in white seems to be photographing something out of shot on the left... interesting airport story! "I really had no good ideas" says shaneworth71, but that hasn't stopped him turning in a remarkably well conceived image: the power station stands in a desolate desert landscape, with the hippo dramatically lit by the scorching sun - and casting its shadow way down on the ground beneath. I like the solitary figure running from the scene. A very strong image! I like ahmedalij's view of the hippo as a hot air balloon, flying into the sunset. But with the sun directly behind it, how could the side be lit up like that? The balloon shows how the lighting must work! If you want to see the face of the hippo, you'll need to move it over to one side. I like Ant Snell's waterside view of the power station, and the hippo tethered above it. Given that it's night, though, isn't the hippo too brightly lit? Maybe much more in shadow, with just the eyes shining out? A cartoon entry from TheBlueJam, with Betty Boop hiding behind a chimney while a rather charming cartoon hippo looks on from its hammock. I'm trying to imagine what prompted the ideas in this one - or did you just start with the hammock and carry on from there? I like the expressions! A true flying hippo from puffin31939, with a splendid pair of wings. I like the dramatic lighting on the building, but shouldn't we see the same side lighting on the hippo as well? A bright view from sciteach, with the hippo floating between the chimneys - and I like the shadow cast on the chimney on the right, which sets the hippo in space well. One thing confuses me: shouldn't the smoke be coming out of the top of the chimneys, rather than the sides? It seems Vibeke has turned the power station into a football stadium, with projections of players on the pillars. Excellent lighting, though, and I like the way the hippo is lit from beneath - very strong! Both a pig and a hippo from Darren, with a great view of Pink Floyd members Roger Waters and Dave Gilmour slugging it out in front of a huge crowd. Nicely done! And I like the album cover references in the second entry, with a spectacular light show. A magnificent hippo from michael sinclair, tethered by two massive ropes above an HDR-style power station. It may not be our original hippo, but it's a splendid image - very fine work indeed, Michael. A flying hippo from James, that not only glides between the chimneys but lands and walks out of shot as well. Lipstick on a hippo? Why not - I like the kiss at the end! A great view of the power station from across the river from Garfield72, with the hippo being winched in by helicopter - and well done getting the reflection in. The helicopter does seem huge compared to the power station, though! Great lighting from tooquilos, with a damaged hippo tethered above an equally damaged floating duck - and there's a chimney down on the power station too, beautifully depicted lying in the river (but do brick chimneys float?). I like the smoke from the chimneys in the animated version, and the Godzilla attack was wholly unexpected. Rubber duck to the rescue! Great blinking eyes on the hippo, too. Not tempted to use Pink Floyd for the soundtrack? A fluffy hippo from Emy, wearing a burglar's mask and clutching something in its mouth. A chimney, perhaps? Can be, because there's no chimney missing. Or am I misreading it? I like the dainty wings. A promotional hippo from Frank, advertising the power station's latest sale. Cheap electricity while stocks last? Possibly. Not sure hippos have claws, must check. An interesting view from Mariner, with a brand new but fully inflated hippo floating in the air. It works well in there, but... surely it should cast a shadow between the shadows of the chimneys? Clever work from Ben Boardman, inserting the hippo into a detail from the cover painted on a model's back. It's a reference to this poster, which depicts six Pink Floyd covers. Nicely achieved! A fine collection of multicoloured pigs - er, hippos - from Linda Eckert, using all the examples from this week's entries. Now that's something that's never been done on the Forum before! I like it! A serene view from Deborah Morley, with a tethered hippo over what seems to be an early morning shot of the power station. Lovely colours, and a real air of calm here. Excellent colours in Emil's entry, with the dramatic sky perfectly matching the deep red tones of the building and the hippo. I particularly like the curved shadow of the chimney on the side of the hippo. A good album label from Daniel Millar, with the text neatly arranged in the spaces between the chimneys. The shadow of the hippo on the chimney works well, although it's perhaps a little too dark. Glad srawland's internet connection is up and running again - just in time to make a neatly rebuilt hippo. I like those stubby legs. Good work, everyone. |
