It takes a great deal of courage to change. I admire you for it, and for being so open with us, Shay. Thank you very much for allowing us to use your picture for the challenge. Do let us know how your progression goes. I hope you like my rendition of you. When I was getting my B.A. I knew another student with a beard similar to this. I always thought he looked very handsome with it, and I think it does the same for you.

Thank you so much for this I have to say I do love this image very much thank you for taking the time

Heres the traditional Canadian look.
Lots of playing with channels, refine edge, facial hair brush etc.
Too bad I spent so much time cutting out Shays hair for new background only to put a cap on, LOL. Great job everyone
and cheers Shay!

Hi Shay,
The mistake people have made here is just to throw hair, and beards at your face, but, unfortunately, you still have the dimensions of a rounded woman's head; moreover, your eyes are feminine and so is your mouth; in fact you do have a very nice face as well as an attractive one.

Therefore, I will change your features to be more masculine without hiding your face under hair.

I agree with you the male face has a more square configuration with less distance between the eyes more prominent forehead , angle of the mandible and eyebrows with less protrusive zygoma. is

I have to strongly disagree with you, i wouldnt called "mistakes" to all the well intended and woderful pictures posted here in this challenge. As a woman, I will tell you Shay, that you will look fantastic, like a very handsome man, if you use any of the beard s style that you like the best in this challenge. As a woman, i know what I am talking about.

Re: Challenge 528: Make me a man
I was burning up with a fever last night and just got my entry in last night, so I apologise if it appeared that I was denigrating others work which wasn't the intention; it was just as a MAN I could still a woman's face behind the hair and beards, and therefore felt I needed to go further than just hair!

Whilst I agree entirely with Emy, what you have done is very clever and indeed very different.

Denigrated or no I, for one, shall choose on this occasion to accept talent before tact ......

Re: Challenge 528: Make me a man
Some splendid entries this week - all of them remarkably restrained! Thank you for treating this subject with the respect it deserves.

First in was ahmedalij, who didn't add stubble but instead treated Shay's features to make them more masculine. The squarer jawline, thicker nose and stronger eyebrows work well; and removing the earring certainly helps. A well-spotted detail. And I like the beard in the second entry - a good shape.

A great five o'clock shadow from Josephine Harvatt, with a strong blue tint and just the hint of stubble. Shouldn't it meet the sideburn?

Not only a convincing shadow, but a bristly moustache from Nick Curtain. Good work getting the style and texture to match Shay's hair - I like the effect.

A full beard from DavidMac, which - as it turns out - is the first of several George Clooney hair styles this week. It fits well, but seems just too neat at the edges; it's more like a false beard that has been glued on. Maybe try smudging down some individual strands, particularly below the lip.

A shaggy beard from Frank, neatly blending in colour with Shay's hair. I like the grittiness of the overall image treatment, as well - it adds a certain depth to the photograph.

A very subtle five o'clock shadow from Deborah Morley, giving a slight unshaven appearance. It's hard to know how strong to set an effect like this, and I think you've made it very convincing.

A clever image from GKB, showing Shay shaving - but do you really shave over a crevice like that? I like the dual appearance of the Clooney hair, which is most convincing. Are you sure Shay should be looking at the camera, though? That's a sure way to cut yourself...

An action shot from Emy, showing Shay as a tennis player. A very well created beard, but what's remarkable her is the way you've captured the awkward side lighting and applied it to the face. Excellent!

A musclebound tattoo-sporting body from tooquilos, topped off by a seriously unshaven Shay - and it all works rather well as a piece. A terrific selection of costumes, bodies and poses in the animated version - now there's an entire year's photo album in a single video! I think the biker is my favourite.

A neatly trimmed beard from srawland, finely sculpted by its owner. My only query is - and this is going to sound odd - whether it's just too feminine. Does that make sense when discussing beards?

A rather strong beard from James, accompanied by some very neat chin scratching and a clever wink. Just a thought, James, but has the whole beard slipped to the right by about 30 pixels?

A comprehensive makeover from brewell, featuring not just a stubbly shadow but a reshaped jaw and eyebrows. Is the parrot on the shoulder a specifically male accoutrement? Perhaps you're right - I can't remember seeing any female pirates.

A homage to Clint Eastwood from Ant Snell, complete with black hat and cigar - and I like the Halloween style skull in the cigar smoke. The hat seems a slightly awkward fit, though, as it it's leaping off the head; and do you think it would be worth lifting Shay's lip a little to accommodate the cigar?

Older, perhaps, but still very appealing: Garfield72's image adds sideburns, grey eyebrows, and a decidedly rugged appearance. I like the subtlety of this entry.

A fine new body from Vibeke, nicely matching the skin tones of the face. Personally, I'd have flipped the body so that it and Shay were facing the same direction - less neck-ache that way!

An entertaining beard from Darren, complete with one of those bizarre dead animal hats Canadians seem to favour. Not sure about the headgear but I do like the beard!

A complete makeover from Daniel Millar, with Shay's face neatly blended into Brosnan's head. It almost works, but there's a difference of viewing angle that produces some awkwardness, particularly above the eyebrows and between the mouth and the chin. Getting images from exactly the same angle is key to making this sort of face graft work - and I'm not sure you started with the right Brosnan. But it's very close!

A scratchy beard from Linda Eckert, with an interestingly-shaped pair of aviators neatly perched on the nose. Best of all is the male-pattern baldness - a very novel touch!

A remodelling of Shay's physiognomy from michael sinclair, and it's a very interesting result. But are you suggesting that real men are warmongers?

Splendid entries all round this week. Shay, thanks again for the loan of your face, and for agreeing to take part in this entertaining exercise.
