Re: Challenge 544: Jennifer in Paradise
Just added some toys and a little bit of 'age related weight'. Question: how would I grey the hair?

Given a poor quality image like this I would look for a grey wig on the internet and use it as a replacement.

I realised it looks from the back like I am wearing a swimming suit. Here is a picture of the front of the dress.

Re: Challenge 544: Jennifer in Paradise
A speedy montage from Vibeke kicked off this week's entries, with an artfully ruined paradise - not just a cruise ship and a noisy jet ski, but assorted rubbish and a subtly aged Jennifer. I like the rounded shoulder, and the reflection of the plastic bottle - nicely realised. And I love the second entry - brilliant!

There's something really charming about Ant Snell's 25 years on entry; it could have been absurd, but it has some real human warmth. But are the bodies in need of a little more saturation? And should the bamboo be leaning over like that?

A more acidic view of Jennifer's future from Linda Eckert, with a wickedly aged body and a stormy sea. I like the symmetry of this with the original, but I do have to question the lighting: Jennifer's shadow is almost directly in front of her, but she's lit very much from the side.

It seems Josephine Harvatt has been having a little surrealist fun this week, with a melting Jennifer and a pair of Mae West lips. Is that fish too strong, do you think? And if it's a Dali, it's remarkably restrained!

Ouch! Is that my head on Jennifer's body from srawland? What could she have done to deserve such a fate??? A great figure in the second entry; why is she in mourning? And is that you wearing the dress? What a magnificent outfit!

A splendid Escher tribute from Deborah Morley, completing an image started... seven years ago? Now that really is a labour of love. What a great idea!

I'll never quite understand michael sinclair's obsession with death and destruction. I had been going to remove this image on the grounds of taste, but decided to keep it on the grounds that it has been so well achieved. Michael... I think you need another little chat with your psychotherapist.

A reconstructed scene from tooquilos, with an even more azure sea and an even lusher tropical island. I like the way the foreground and background zoom at different speeds at the start of the animated version, and that's a great animated adaptation of the original sea - splendid surf! I well remember that original Photoshop startup screen, and you make a great contrast with that and the current version. Very cute!

A bleak view of the future from Mariner, with a thoroughly blighted landscape - I especially like the overwhelming bridge. Has Jennifer given up and gone home, then?

A clever entry from Frank - with an original Mac Plus, the computer I started on. Very small point: it only had a black and white screen...

I like matt's added cruise liner and flying boat (or is it a seaplane?) - but perhaps it should have cast a slight shadow on the sea beneath. As to greying the hair... try copying it to a new layer and desaturating it, then use the Dodge tool set to Midtones to paint individual strands. But with so few pixels to play with, it's going to be tricky.

A rather extraordinary pool complex from Emy, who has conjured up a whole new life for Jennifer. What, you don't think being married to one of the world's leading geeks would be stimulating enough in itself?

I like the idea of emanuelefrau's entry, and the unpainted edge has been nicely blended in. My problem, though, is with the angle of the hand. It's very clearly coming from behind the picture, as if it's painting on glass; you need a view of a hand coming from behind the viewer, towards the picture, to make it possible to be painting on paper.

Jota120's back! And as mystical as ever. Motorbikes, an Alphonse Mucha drawing, and a stormy sea... what's not to like?

I greatly enjoyed Darren's view of an apocalyptic future - is that device from the Time Machine movie? A charming and clever idea. Nice work.

A glorious transformation of Jennifer into a mermaid by James - I like the way she swims off into the distance before raising her arms triumphantly. Clever!

Interesting additions from Garfield72, which enhance the landscape rather than ruining it. I like Jennifer's new hat, and that's an ingenious bikini top you've added there. But... has the island drifted away?

Thanks to the Knoll brothers for dreaming up Photoshop. Here's to the next 25 years.

Thanks Steve -- I understand Russell Brown did say something along the line I used -- I guess the LC Mac 2 (which I meant to display) had a color display nevertheless they had less power than todays smartphones.

Re: Challenge 544: Jennifer in Paradise
Thank you, Steve.

It is indeed me in the dress. I wanted to add a seaside waiter but I couldn't find an image of one at the right angle and I couldn't find someone to dress up as a waiter.

After your comment I suppose it does look like Jennifer is in mourning. Perhaps she is mourning being turned into someone with a short, dumpy body. Even if I lose the last bit of weight my doctor wants me to I will never look thin. I'm built like a small draft horse, not a racehorse like Jennifer. However, at times that does have it's advantages. Last year a beggar threatened to steal my purse when I didn't give him money. I told him if he tried it, I would pound him into the ground like a tent stake. He backed off really fast. I think because I look like I am capable of doing it.

Thank you, Steve, for the shadow tip. The shadow was indeed a break head for me. Therefore I took a doll and lightened it with a flashlight like the sun does it on my fat Jennifer (on the back half/half). The result you see on my entry. What did I make wrong?

When we look at your image, the shadow of Jennifer stretches out directly away from the viewer. But the lighting on her body is very much from the side. To match this, the shadow should of course be on the opposite side to the light.
