When I was about half way through I was already asking myself "How the hell has she done that city with perfect parallax and moving reflections?". Having then seen the answer I am no less impressed!

Love the steam punk drone! Did you model that yourself? But surely wouldn't the man (is it our Stephen?) have photographed it?

Frank, I love the grainy fifties Gevacolour look.

Michael I love it: it's impossible to tell whether those chimneys weren't there all the time, and so beautifully done!

So, yet again I wasn't going to post, but I had 10 minutes spare. Forgive the naffness compared with all your entries but at least I have managed something...

Well done all. Fascinating. Very smart. Sorry couldn't make it : climbing/camping in Scotland and gyrocoptering in Lakes, no laptop, but next week should be ok .... hopefully...

Interesting. I thought the gyro copter and other auto rotators had disappeared.

Made popular by James Bond with "Little Nellie". It got a bad rep with some nasty accidents. One of them a very experienced and well known pilot if I recall correctly.

Thank you Michael. It was an interesting challenge, wasn't it? I see your video graphics are getting better by the week.

Re: Challenge 664: A conflation of circumstances
A speedy entry from GKB kicked off this week's Challenge, with the mine from a couple of weeks ago making a guest appearance. I like the array of chimneys doing service as the ship's funnels - but that one right at the front seems a little misplaced, wouldn't you say? I like the fiddler on the roof in the second entry. That's one mighty big pussycat.

The chimneys make great organ pipe toppers in DavidMac's entry, neatly capping them off. That's a curiously located organ, though, in the middle of the church... have you moved it?

A glorious animation from michael sinclair, with a lizard eye opening and closing amid the rocks. The chimneys form great sentinel backdrops, and I'm delighted to see that you've gone to the trouble of adjusting the shading on the flipped version to match the scene. Good attention to detail!

Those chimneys make great aliens in Emy's entry, beaming down from their flying saucer: it's the subtlety of the eyes that really makes this work. Nice.

A rather splendid construction from Josephine Harvatt, the multiple chimneys forming a vast symmetrical building in the desert. Or rather, almost symmetrical: the slight break makes the scene all the more realistic.

A night scene from srawland, the moon casting rear illumination on the chimneys. The animated version is more of a soundscape, an entertaining glimpse of a noisy city - and the appearance of the imp is a fun addition. I like the moving clouds; perhaps the moon should move slightly as well?

A thoroughly intriguing image from tooquilos, featuring some kind of rotor-powered machine and a sign whose meaning I can only guess at. Will all be revealed in the animated version? Love the breaking screen at the beginning - and that's a fine cityscape, although it's not quite the medieval Krakow. The spinning drone itself is fantastic - how did you do it? (Although the man's face should perhaps turn to follow it.) I like how it keeps bashing against the buildings. I'm amazed to see how you built and animated that entire city - what program did you build them in? Fascinating! And hugely impressive.

Multiple chimneys are pressed into service into Frank's steam train - am I right in assuming that's a model train in a garden? It has that neatness to it. I like the muted tones, and the remarkably neat blending of the chimneys.

A beautiful evening shot from Ben Mills, with a woman tucked behind a chimney - and is that a sniper rifle she's holding? Interesting!

A remarkable entry from Mariner, who really excels at architectural images. The chimneys are beautifully integrated into the scene. But I do have to point out a perspective oddity: that floor by the waterside is sloping down too much - we shouldn't be able to see anything like that much of it. Compare with the bottom step, which is barely visible, and the fact that we can't see into the boat despite its being lower in the scene.

A visionary entry from Gerard, who has turned the chimney top into an Apollo capsule - I like the grime and the detailing. Ingenious entry!

Thanks, Steve.
Steve, just like your rooftop the quay edge really is supposed to look as if it is sloping downwards. I just followed your image.

Re: Challenge 664: A conflation of circumstances
Thank you Steve I’ve been learning/teaching myself (for a project Ive been working on) Element 3D. A 3D program brought out by Andrew Kramer at Video Copilot. Its been quite a steep learning curve and just barely getting my head around it. So this challenge was a good opportunity to apply what I have already picked up on it. The drone was also made in Element and animated in AE with a camera.

Many thanks also David and Michael! Both the organ and the lizard where original and clever ideas!!

Organ in middle of church is exactly as I found it. Thanks Steve.

Thank you Steve, I didn't think of moving the moon. It's a good idea as it would make the video seem a condensed version of one night's sounds.

Oh sorry! I wrote this up in a hotel room this morning with poor wifi (my band did a gig in Manchester last night) and didn't notice your image hadn't loaded! It's lovely. Very sorry for omitting it.

Certainly potentially very dangerous. I was given control 3 times. Found the controls much more sensitive than I'd expected. A motorbike in the sky! We flew over some of the mountains in The Lake District. Made some interest flight maneuvers when I wasn't in control. Need a lot of good training to ensure safe as possible. Here taxiing down the road to field ready for takeoff when the rotor will be primed. Have other action flying images elsewhere if interested.
