Re: Challenge 665: Kaplica na wodzie
There is something very strange going on with the forum again. Tried to get to the site, it said it was being rebuilt. Tried again with How to cheat in photoshop CC and there was no forum link. Eventually got to the forum and three times it said my password was wrong. Anyone else had problems in the last hour? ![]() |

Re: Challenge 665: Kaplica na wodzie
Sara, I had to use the 400% Zoom setting on my browser Tools for the very first time even in Vimeo ( I have a 30 inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600), and was finally able to enjoy your "lavender in the wind"; moreover, I was surprised to see "running" water as well! What I want to know why you didn't just use just Animations from timeline as I would have done, and therefore got a bigger image, more detail, and the revelation of moving water (otherwise hidden)? ![]() |

Just tried 21:43 (GMT + 1) and all seems fine. Except your avatar is missing again. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

I only created the waving lavender as a .gif then imported into a timeline animation. I'm surprised you couldn't see it. It waves and the water moves just fine on my 24 inch screen. _________________ I'm still learning. |

I have the same size and res monitor. I love it. You can get so much more on the screen at the same time and keep palettes open. The drawback of course is that the higher the res the smaller things get. In it's natural windowed state on Vimeo, Sara's video is just 90 x 120 mm. on my screen. I could see the lavender moving fine but not the far more subtle water. I had to set it full screen for that. It's beautifully done Sara!! _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 665: Kaplica na wodzie
First entry this week was a beautiful piece from GKB - tremendous reflections, great ripples, and a very good stab at reflecting that boat (always a tricky shape). Good stuff, Gordon. (And to answer your question: I used my old Sony pocketable SLR.) A fine new location from michael sinclair, who has painstakingly cut out the church - that spire must have taken a while. Very fine water treatment, and good to see some static clouds from you. An intriguing image from Tom, with a skeletal hand rising from the depths and some curious lighting on the church. Excellent rippling effect in the reflection - but the hand reflection should surely by much more distorted than that? I was very amused by DavidMac's church on a raft, not least because of the inclusion of a church parade from a Challenge couple of years ago. An excellent idea, immaculately realised. Faultless. A neatly placed waterfall from Emy, its cascade visible through the church spire - and a nicely built stream beneath the church. This is precisely what I asked for. Excellent! Those trying to decipher the name of Linda Eckert's submerged entry should know that it refers to Claude Debussy's haunting piano prelude The Submerged Cathedral. And nicely submerged it is, too. But I wonder: should it really be leaning over at an angle like that? And remember: water needs to wrap around a 3D object, not just form a straight line in front of it: ![]() A great waterfall from tooquilos - I like the rainbow half way up it. Not entirely sure about removing all the supports from beneath the church, though! It does make it look rather precarious. A beautifully crafted animated version - that waterfall works really well, and the multiple poses of the diver is splendid. Love the interior view! And good to see the Morris dancers in there too. Is that destructive drone likely to become a regular theme, do you think? Brilliant. A haunting entry from Jota120, the perfectly lit statue (at least, I'm assuming it's a statue) complementing the church beautifully. And a good stream running beneath it, too. Very nice work. A funny entry from Frank, with a gangplank for sinners that leads straight to a seething river full of crocodiles. That should ensure a regular attendance! And great rushing water beneath, too. An extraordinary entry from Mariner, with much of the church having been washed away, leaving just a few slats behind. Of course, this entailed building the interior of the church in perfect perspective as well. Extraordinary! Perhaps one or two floating slats in the water would ram the point home? A nightmarish entry from Ben Mills, with the starkly lit church engulfed in a vast wave. Great colours, and a real sense of drama here. Try as I might, though, I fail to spot any bikini-clad girls from you this week. A new river from srawland, with some pretty lavender growing along is bank. I really like the way it waves in the breeze in the animated version - and the birdsong, as well as the Bach, make a great audio accompaniment. Well, I asked for water, and Deborah Morley has given it to me - a vast cascade of it, gushing around and beneath the church. Very nicely done, and the couple in the foreground give the image both depth and a human factor. ____________________ Sorry about the brief outage this week. I'd been hosting the main HotChiPs site on Squarespace, which was costing too much each year so I rebuilt it in Adobe Muse and moved it back to my own server. If you happened to chance upon the site between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, you'd have found it inexplicably displaying the book website from 2008. |

Thanks for a gleaming critique, Steve. I really did think about buzzards, swans and floating debris, but decided that the storm was last year's news and the flotsam was gone. |

Thanks Steve, Yes it is a statue, but: I've got a menacing feeling its not dead and inert; e.g. maybe just like: ¿¿is a memory dead??... if its a living reflection of the past.... |

Re: Challenge 665: Kaplica na wodzie
Thank you, Steve. There are actually 10 lavender plants I used Puppet Warp to create 6 different positions - three right and three left. Along with the original position gave each plant 7 variations. I had to chart out which layer to turn on in which order. In all there were twelve different sets of 10 frames I used to create slightly curved waving movement. _________________ I'm still learning. |
