Re: Challenge 672: The prevention of tranquility
Could Steve have cheated on us and Photoshopped the sign? I actually spent 2 hours on Sunday trying to find the building on Google Maps using the street address on the sign and adding "France", and I could not find the building. I still don't think he came clean about his bathroom remodel. _________________ I'm still learning. |

Anna - the warden has a real cruel streak! Fantastic as always. Deborah, I'm always impressed with your submissions. I wish I had as good a grasp of Photoshop as you obviously do. Josephine - is that Steve in the background playing the trumpet? Mariner - Very relaxing. _________________ I'm still learning. |

Re: Challenge 672: The prevention of tranquility
First off I want to express my deepest gratitude to DavidMac for taking the time to come up with phrases that matched my intent and record them for me. I wouldn't have a submission without his considerable help. Despite David's help, this submission is not on par with last week's submission. Re: Challenge 672: The prevention of tranquility
As someone who views all Steve's works with the deepest suspicion I sympathize with your attempt to shoot him down. However in this case I found the spot because I recalled that Steve often holidays in La Rochelle, so, Sara, you should have been searching there. ![]() |

I'm impressed how everyone has responded to such an awkward challenge: especially Anna, Michael, and Sara such great work ![]() I have had a very busy week, and as you can see I have run of time with this really"Rushed Jobby!" entitled IBS. Re: Challenge 672: The prevention of tranquility
Continuing with my obsession about what the hell this is really about, a very clever suggestion has come from, of all unexpected things, an Irish lady living in Belgium. She suggests that this is a service against the disruption of peace of of mind. In other words the service that deal with the 'prevention de tranquillité', noise abatement, smells from a restaurant kitchen, drunks pissing on the doorsteps or other antisocial behaviour. Makes perfect sense to me .......... _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Ha! You made it in the end, Michael! Well done! I was going to suggest changing your two red lines to ribbons, banding them blue, white and red, putting a twist or two in the middle, and giving them each a drop shadow. Then the coup de grace: have them (and their drop shadows) wafting gently in the tranquil summer breeze. Maybe next time. |

Re: Challenge 672: The prevention of tranquility
First to service the tranquility this week was Emy, with a beautifully composed scene of urban life. I particularly like the puff of smoke. That graffiti, though, really does need to bend over the ledge in the wall. Very nicely drawn shadows. A topical entry from Ben Mills, with Kim Jong Un doing his best to prevent world peace. A great missile behind him - but couldn’t he do with a shadow o the ground? A plausibly added Police sign from Linda Eckert, with a very convincing shadow. I like the added policeman, and the curved lettering on the other man’s back. A scene of some complexity from Tom, with a variety of light sources. So which one is casting the shadow of the ball on the top of the cube? Good to see you back. A long list of potential tranquility spoilers from Frank, very neatly added to the sign. The man at reception is suitably stern. Perhaps take the saturation in the woman down a little? She looks rather like a studio shot, rather than an outdoors photograph. I really liked josephine harvatt’s scene of a boombox-toting kid overwhelmed by a passing brass band - nice work! A good gag. A gothic conversion from tooquilos, with a newly carved sign, a lit-up door and some seriously interesting lamps. The animated version is magnificent - that slow zoom through the prison bars, the expert lighting on the prisoner, the kick through the door, and the final inability to break the street door... astonishing. And not to say just a little disturbing! A clever take from Mariner, who has turned the idea on its head and removed the doorway to show a view of a thoroughly tranquil scene. A great idea, beautifully realised. Excellent. A subtle sign conversion from Deborah Morley, with a dozing dog about to be troubled by - is that a rat? Or a tennis ball on a stick? Either way, it’s a refreshing approach. I like the way srawland has flipped the image horizontally while maintaining the legibility of the sign. A neat Fuse-built character ringing the doorbell, and I enjoyed the animated version - fine voice acting from David! Not sure about the fuzzy shadow round the foot, though, or the fact that it’s so far forward the toes are pressing through the stonework. Despite myself I enjoyed michael sinclair's twitching Napoleon. Of course, Michael, you could simply have placed him on the pavement outside the building in question. Or would that have been too on-topic for you? A welcome return from James Arendell , with an ecclesiastical service that’s doing its best to prevent the tranquility of the woman in the chair. I like the way the sign has been pinned to the back of the chair. Nice composition. (Note for Mariner: James has actually been with us for some time, his post count is at 1 because of the Great Crash.) Jota120's solution to preventing tranquility is to rev up a motorbike in a tunnel - yes, that would do it for me. A remarkable tunnel - I’m having some difficulty comprehending its structure. |

Re: Challenge 672: The prevention of tranquility
Thank you, Steve. As far as I know, once a character is animated, it cannot be altered to fit the scene. The scene must fit the animation. I figured I'd get dinged for the shadow. For some reason the shadow that was with the character before I rendered it, did not come along with the rendering. _________________ I'm still learning. |
