Re: Challenge 678: Bats
Thanks for the comments David, but it was awkward getting the colour darker without making the bats darker, and therefore less dramatic ![]() Anna, thanks for the detailed way you showed how you did it, and as usual very professional, and way over my head. ![]() Michael, again brilliant: it's the way you "enhance" and put a lot of detail into your entry, instead of just plonking a selection into the image with crude effect. ![]() Sara...where's Sara? ![]() |

Re: Challenge 678: Bats
Here I am, Michael, at the last minute again! ![]() The soundtrack on this one was tricky. My old school chum, Tony obliged me with another voice over. If I had the time, I would have made it longer because he gave me a lot of great material. But then, isn't that always the way with video productions? Again, I am cursing Adobe for limiting the way objects can be transformed in video timelines. If I had my druthers, the D would flap his wings and move his mouth more realistically. Re: Challenge 678: Bats
Emy - That is truly frightening. Michael Sinclair - I love the way they bend at the joints. Anna - I wish I was even half as good as you. I need to talk to you about how you created those skin textures in Fuse. Frank - LOVED IT! IWC - Great flutter effect. I can almost hear the flapping wings. Trevor - Burning Man is a locally famous event around here. It's now held in the Nevada desert but originally started in San Francisco. It's an extremely Bohemian event. _________________ I'm still learning. |

Thank you Michael. Yes, after I have "finished" a challenge I often use the remaining time looking for ways to improve it. |

Look girls, food!
And not so teenage years. Christopher Lee, famous for playing Count Dracula, Saruman, and Scaramanga, died in June 2015 aged 93. |

Also famous for having two entries in the Guinness Book of Records: one for having filmed more sword fights than any other actor, and one for being the tallest leading actor (he was 6'5"). |

Re: Challenge 678: Bats
First to release the bat this week was DavidMac, who has given it glowing eyes and a rather fancy set of dentures. A nice rush job, but I would question the lighting direction on those clouds. A fun animation from lwc, with a rather grand belfry behind. I like the eyes, but the teeth seem to be slipping out of his mouth. A not-so-subtle satire from Josephine Harvatt - it's OK, Josephine, you can take the Halloween costume off now. Oh... you have. A splendid animation from michael sinclair, with loads of detail - I particularly like the way the mouth moves, and the fact that the background appears seamless. Would have been better if you'd used my bat, of course. I like the extra bats in the second entry, but can't help thinking it would have looked better if you'd staggered the wing movement so it doesn't look like synchronised flying. Multiple scared-up bats from Ant Snell, with a somewhat devilish woman inside the flames. I like the different tinting on the bats. But is it... wearing lipstick? A cutely scared woman from Ben Mills, but it's the bat that catches my attention: that's a really fine new face, albeit one I'd have said belonged to a dog rather than a bat. Nice. A truly scary bat from Frank - now that really is a monster! And a fantastic image of a terrified woman. Love the atmosphere, too, and the minimalist room. The only thing that confuses me is: is she kneeling on the floor? If so, that's an odd height for a telephone table. We've been discovering a dark side to Emy lately, and this week is no exception: a really horrific scene showing the aftermath of a vampire bat's visit. This is really extraordinary work, Emy, and is really shocking. And, it goes without saying, beautifully composed. A nicely modified bat from tooquilos, with a suitably ecclesiastical background. I do like the light in the window. The window/eye effect in the animated version is terrific - and what noisy wings your bat has! Great animated flying, and I really like the way it gets stuck inside that glass coffin... brilliant. The Fuse how-to is most interesting - the face tinting is especially fine. A good night shot from Deborah Morley - I especially like the way the bat is flying so close to the ground, which gives it an extra sense of menace. Is that a touch of verdigris on it, or perhaps lichen? Either way, it blends it in nicely. Unusual to see Christopher Lee upstaged by a parrot, but in Mariner's entry it's definitely the thing perched on his shoulder that grabs all the attention. That's some rather fine wing structure, too - I like how skeletal it is. Very pleasing. Looks like the finale from the Burning Man festival from Jota120 - or a homage to the Wicker Man? Either way, a splendid fiery scene and a nicely tinted bat. I'd nudge it a little to the right, so it overlaps the figure; with the wing just touching it we lose the sense of scale, it could be vast and behind it. I like the face in the second entry - although those eyebrows still make it look quizzical rather than scary! Brightly glowing eyes from srawland, with a background rendered with the Clouds filter. What a great voiceover in the animated version! There's some real acting talent there. Great jaw movement. |

Re: Challenge 678: Bats
Haha! It might be technically correct, but it didn't seem right to have the bat hanging upside down from Dracula's arm. Thanks Steve. |

Re: Challenge 678: Bats
Thanks Steve, Its from the annual Fire Festival in Valencia Spain. This, The Wicker Man, is one of many other painstaking created sculptures to be burnt down. Totally agree with your comments on composition. Thanks. It bugged me after posted it and was going to change it and post again. I was a bit concerned the bat may be silhouetted too much and lose 3D definition and colour. You justify why I should have reposted. In retrospect my concern over lose of 3D definition was probably unfounded or avoidable, especially verses avoiding scaling issue. Fair comment on the eyebrows |

Not quite sure what you mean Steve. The sky per se or the sky relative to bat? I haven't touched it in any way. It's exactly as downloaded. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 678: Bats
Sara, interesting, as above this burning man is from Valencia, but could be anywhere I guess. In Scotland they have Wicker Man Festival with music etc. There was even a film as you may have seen. The 1973 version stared Christopher Lee coincidental. |
