Thank you Sara. A bit funny/strange/coincidence a lane I was walking today had two chickens like yours. I don't scare them. I know the owner of the stables where they live. They trust me. ![]() Great work Anna and thanks for sharing. I'm not sure I can continue at present with such limited dedicated time |

Thank you David. I used chrominance quite a lot but couldn't find any use for luminance. Perhaps Steve will enlighten us. |

Not sure I could come to think of it. In the end I used the Colour Range to select and isolate the whites. I suppose that is basically a kind of luminance masking. BTW when I said no other tools of any kind I forgot to mention I did use layer adjustments - HSL and Levels ...... and that reallywas all. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 710: Light me up
First to turn the lights on was lwc, with an animated entry - very subtle. Nicely straightened verticals! I like the night view in the second entry, which really brings the scene to life. I particularly like the rainbow arch in Josephine Harvatt’s entry, which adds a lot of interest. Painting the neon out manually, though - is that reverse cheating? Might be an idea to switch the car headlights on. High drama from Tom, echoing the floods of 2005. I like the lightning striking the crane, and the silhouetting of the palm tree; and a very well lit sign, too. Perhaps it could do with a human element - a boat in the background? There’s a 1970s Technicolor feel to Ben Mills’ entry, with saturated tones and a new blue sky. All you need to do is change those cars to 1960s models. Good to see you back, Ben. An interesting approach from michael sinclair, correcting vertical distortion all over the place while subletting the Pisa tower to Walgreens. With the church so rectilinear, shouldn’t the tower be as well? I sense an impending fatwa from the second entry - but I’d slide the sign’s shadow over to the right to match the lighting direction. Bright lighting from Jota120, who has stayed thoroughly on topic this week with not a hint of weirdness. I like the lit windows in the building opposite, and the general haziness. A novel approach from srawland, transplanting Walgreens to a deserted location: very fine matching of perspective, a most convincing job. I really like the added chickens and flashing traffic lights in the animated version, and that’s a very haunting soundtrack. Hope your back has recovered. A beautiful dawn scene from Mariner, with a thoroughly spruced-up town: I’m amazed at how you managed to remove the traffic and rebuild the buildings opposite. I like the glow from the lit sign. Stunning work. A very atmospheric entry from tooquilos, with a misty downtown punctuated by dazzling neon. I really like how the neon changes in the animated version, and that’s some fine rain - the umbrella is a cute extra touch. Interesting to see you drawing the neon in the tutorial section! Good trick. I’m impressed with DavidMac for sticking exactly to my instructions - and that’s a valiant effort, which certainly does the job. It would be worth inverting your selections and darkening the background, simply for extra contrast; but I’m glad the technique seemed to work. |

Re: Challenge 710: Light me up
Well I found that was too hit and miss, so I soon went back to my old ways and extracted the text manually. Sorry Steve! |

Thanks Steve. If I'd completed the second version it would most likely have been judged off topic, ... think Blade Runner.... or All Men Must Die |

Re: Challenge 710: Light me up
You are very kind to me Steve. It was however an interesting and difficult challenge that took me way out of my comfort zone. Thanks. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Thank you, Steve. I would also like to point out that the advert in the window of the building across the street is for a drug rehabilitation program. _________________ I'm still learning. |
