Re: Challenge 752: Rebuild Notre Dame
In the architect's office the cathedral, glass pyramid and plinth we're all modelled in Sketchup using a matched camera derived from vanishing points in the background office image. Some texture and reflections added in Photoshop. The nighttime image is pure 2D photoshop from photos found on the web. The roller coaster the same. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Did nobody ever tell you about red rags and bulls Anna? To be truthful this is not well done and I rather regretted starting it after a while as the extraction of the roller coaster from its background was the stuff of nightmares! Classic case of biting off more than I could chew. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 752: Rebuild Notre Dame
I've had a busy week, but I did manage to cobble up my choice for a replacement roof. Threw some quick FX at the image and called it finis... all interpretations, psychological or other, are entirely your own. ![]() ![]() |

Very little time to spare this week but I have posted my work as far as I can get it, warts and all. http://vimeo.com/332435008 _________________ Always remember that you are unique - just like everyone else. |

Sneaky roller coaster David. Lovely clip Loyd. It's rather riveting. I can't help looking back at it. Well done. Nice clip Gordon. Made me want to waltz over the roof. _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

Can't say I spotted too many warts Gordon. Stylistic 3D as 3D. Very nicely done too. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 752: Rebuild Notre Dame
First entry this week was an ingenious solution from DavidMac, using the pyramid from outside the Louvre as protection - and elegantly realised in an architect’s studio. Great lighting on the pyramid. The end result in the second entry is really impressive: I wonder, though, if the pyramid shouldn’t be behind those trees. Very amused by the third entry - a perfect match of angles, and a terrific idea. A multi-faith solution from Ben Mills, welding the Taj Mahal onto the back of Notre Dame. The perspectives of the two fit perfectly - so much so that I won’t question why the Taj Mahal is made of Lego. A convincing lightning strike from michael sinclair, and my guest appearance in the second entry is entertaining - I do wonder about the cut-off flame, though, and the fact that it appears to be upside down. But a most impressive animated version, with a good flickering effect on the background. I like the relocation in the fourth entry, although I’d have added a few trees in the foreground to make it look less like it’s floating. An extraordinary Fabergé concoction from tooquilos, mixing up a range of architectural effects and even slipping in the Eiffel Tower for good measure. A highly cinematic animated version, opening with a 3D drone-style fly around the blazing building; the end result is a glorious mashup of styles, all in shimmering gold. And with dragons! Magnificent. A fun answer to Anna’s creation in a fourth entry from DavidMac - an artfully constructed roller coaster wrapping neatly around the building. I really enjoyed lwc's entry, with its shimmering flame effect and pulsating sun. Very evocative - and a nicely built roof. A 3D flyaround from GKB, artfully reconstructing the chain of events - including the iconic moment when the spire fell. A beautiful reconstruction scene, and an absolutely appropriate choice of soundtrack throughout. A beautifully made, respectful homage, and a great note on which to end. |

Thanks Steve. I wanted this to be as respectful as possible; I’m pleased that you agree. Thanks to everyone for their comments on what is, to my mind, unfinished work. _________________ If at first you don't succeed then skydiving is not for you. |

Re: Challenge 752: Rebuild Notre Dame
Thanks for your kind comments on my entries. With regard to the above I wondered the same thing and tried it when I was putting the image together. It really didn't work. Granted it doesn't quite work as it is either. I settled for the lesser of evils. I suppose I could have simply removed the trees but I liked them and decided to leave it as it was. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
