Re: Challenge 758: Harrogate Sunday Pullman
I would really liked to have spent a lot more time developing this idea and introduce my own graphics and characters but time doesn't permit as it would have ended up at feature-length. So here it is with thanks again to Gerry and Sylvia Anderson whose efforts in the 60s still resound with the 10-year old in me to this day. http://vimeo.com/340637680 _________________ If at first you don't succeed then skydiving is not for you. |

Some great and fantastic work everyone. Wishing you well Eva and hurry back to join us. Steve, I struggled a bit with this one being somewhat new to PS animation : ![]() |

Frank, I am reminded of the motto of the RAF - Per Ardua Ad Astra - Through Hardship to the Stars. Welcome to the animation club. _________________ Time flies like an arrow but fruit flies like a banana. |

Thanks Sara and Gordon, you two set a high standard. I too was impressed with Ant's entry. I'll keep dipping my toes in the pond now and again I believe - can be fun as well as head scratching. |

Nice one Frank... yes, part of the fun is working out the timing and proper sequence for the animation. Keep at it. ![]() |

If you ever need advice, feel free to ask. I got a lot of help from Anna when I started making animations. It is only fitting that I pay it forward. _________________ I'm still learning. |

Ant, I have only just seen your animation. Nicely done and it seems that we have another new member of the animation club. Watch out Disney, HTCIP is catching up with you. _________________ If at first you don't succeed then skydiving is not for you. |

Re: Challenge 758: Harrogate Sunday Pullman
First to fill the case this week was GKB, with a fine steam train that almost fits. Some interesting woodwork going on there, particularly at the back of the frame, and a good stab at the reflection in the top glass. I enjoyed the animated version, but I wonder if distorting the video to match the perspective of the case would have been possible - might make all the difference. Great soundtrack. A terrific second entry - that train really has to make some tight turns! Might separating the train and coal truck into two objects have helped the issue? I got a real wave of nostalgia from the third entry - fabulous. Enjoyed it immensely. A host of Tracey Ullman lookalikes from DavidMac, very neatly assembled inside the case. No idea why, though. I like the fact that you’ve changed the original rather weak reflection with something much stronger. It makes all the difference. A model train set from lwc, complete with a homage to George Pullman inside the case. I like the shifting light in the case, and the strong lighting. A well-filled case in the second entry, complete with steam; but why are there two trains in the same case? Again, I like the posters at the back. A neatly cleared room from srawland, with a curious ghostly object inside the case itself. A truly scary animated version, with an extraordinary ghostly figure writhing in the case - and that hand reaching out of the mug is a real bonus. An amazing way of working with steam. And the soundtrack is perfect. A rebuilt case from tooquilos, complete with ancient burial plot. Fine 3D effects in the animated version - the wooden case is particularly nicely modelled. A curious floating skeleton - not tempted to use Poser to make him walk? The scenes in the Pitt Rivers museum are fun. I wonder if that dinosaur needs a little more texture? A violent ending, for you! I was amused by the sign in Ant Snell’s entry, and impressed with the subtlety of the pane of glass leaning against the case. A slightly curious rear view of the man, though, who appears to be staring at the case next door. The animated version, though, is really splendid - very nicely done. A glorious Damien Hirst parody from Mariner, with multiple reflections and some truly complex perspective calculations. (Slightly confused by the fact that the reflection in the side wall appears to be a different cow altogether.) Very tasty. A first animation (I believe) from Frank, but a terrific one: it’s a really atmospheric scene, with fantastic weather effects - I like how the lightning illuminates the whole scene as it flashes. And that poster on the end wall is a good way to complete the case. Very fine work, Frank! |

Re: Challenge 758: Harrogate Sunday Pullman
Thanks Steve.
Not a cow, city dweller, a bull. I spent quite a while searching the net for the rear end view of a Holstein bull. This was the nearest I could get. Unfortunately my drawing skills are not up to doing the job from scratch (from memory), so my masterpiece this week is slightly less than perfect! |

It's a very poor word play Steve. "Harrogate Sunday Pullman" to "Surrogate Tracey Ullman". Note to self. 'Must do better next time .............' ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 758: Harrogate Sunday Pullman
Thanks Steve. I'll have another look at distorting the video but I was trying to not make it look stretched so it was all a bit of a compromise Glad you like the 'Stingray' piece. One of the nice things about stretching yourself with things like this is that the brain is still working on solving problems even after you have 'finished'. I had been trying to figure out how to get Stingray to actually come out of the side of the tank through its hatch before going around in its figure of eight and I think I must have come up with the solution in my sleep last night as I woke up with it this morning. Great to see new animators. _________________ If at first you don't succeed then skydiving is not for you. |

Re: Challenge 758: Harrogate Sunday Pullman
The large train was meant to be a scale model and the smaller a normal size Lionel electric train. Thanks for the critique. |

Thanks Steve, it seemed like 3000 tries to get it looking reasonably right. Thanks everyone else for the offers of help - I may just do that down the road - in the meantime I'll do a little practicing 🧠🔨 |
