Loyd, there must be something wrong with my screen. I've been staring at these for several minutes and neither one has moved. _________________ I'm still learning. |

![]() Sara, David and Frank... the only way they would ever move is to click on the image for the hi-res non-animated version. I've been feeling a bit burned-out on animations lately, so I went for a hint of realism. With that said, here is a slightly animated entry: ![]() |

Re: Challenge 781: The moonrat
Nice work Anna, and Loyd ![]() I'm most grateful to Sara for pointing out that the moonrat belongs to the hedgehog family, as I was stuck for an idea at that point. I cut out the original moonrat and (after various adjustments) superimposed some of the features of the hedgehog such as the spines, ears, and eyes onto the original moonrat, but keeping to the original posture of the original (minus tail of course) ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Strangely I missed out on 'Wind in the Willows' as a child. Not sure why. It belongs firmly to my generation. Lovely stuff as ever ........ ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 781: The moonrat
My effort really belongs under "Lampooning our Ghastly Government" - well done there David and others - but I am a bit late for that, and Alice's dormouse fits in quite well with the other, er, rats. yes? Yes, David, I use the pen tool much more than any other. |

Re: Challenge 781: The moonrat
First to treat the moonrat was Mariner, with a distinctly more ratty rat - sharpened teeth and more beady eyes. I think Michael doesn’t like rodents. A fun entry from Ant Snell, who has put the moonrat in its proper place - and, naturally, the moon is made of cheese. Good choice of Edam, with all those craters. Could the moonrat do with a slight shadow to ground it? A new member this week, and Rayzox has come up with a version based on Sonic the Hedgehog, complete with trademark red shoes. I really like how you’ve added the reflection of those shoes on the tabletop - just the sort of detail that appeals to me. Welcome to the forum, Rayzox! Our second new member of the week is the curiously-named new5588, with a very neat moon shot - the moonrat is suitably small in the image, and very well positioned on the astronaut’s arm. But you need to reversed the shading on that rat, so it’s lit from the right rather than the left. A couple of Adjustment Layers should fix it: ![]() A charming hark back to Wind in the Willows from Ben Mills, with Ratty now replaced by Moonratty. He does look very at home there. I remember finding the description of the picnic absolutely mouth-watering. A charming birthday card from Eva Roth, with a neatly treated moonrat in front of a picturesque rural scene. Thank you! As it happens, I spent the day in Paris. More mystic symbols from Tom, who has golden astrological signs down to a fine art. Nicely made shadow of the rat on the moon, and an intriguing composition. And what fine laser-shooting eyes! A cute flying saucer from GKB, with some of that clever non-distorting glass they’ve obviously invented in space. I boldly enjoyed the boldly-made animated version - great typography, by the way, spot on for accuracy. I like the wavering of the flying saucer; but shouldn’t its surface reflect more than just itself? That poor moonrat must be getting seasick. The landing on the lunar surface is fantastic. If a little aggressive. That’s quite an epic you’ve made there, Gordon. Gloriously spiky typography from Frank - I’ve had that font for about 20 years but could never find a good reason to use it. The animated version is glorious: entertaining brainfart lightbulbs, and a splendid Bowie-themed launch sequence. I really enjoy your post-credits gags. Small point: those rats at the end will look a lot less like they’re falling off a cliff if the rows get bigger as they near the camera: ![]() Whack-a-rat from DavidMac, with a neatly made lunar surface on which to do so. A clever idea, perfectly realised. I really like this. A bucolic scene from Josephine Harvatt, the moonrat’s head perfectly incorporated into that figure. What? No claws for hands? A scene of sone charm from lwc, with moon pie being the only lunar reference. (What is moon pie, by the way? Is it a real thing?) Some post-halloween pumpkins in the second entry, again with a very neatly placed moonrat; and, finally, some animation (you do have a reputation to live up to) in the third entry. I’d really like to see a reflection of that moonrat, though. A return to Toad Hall from tooquilos, with a splendidly-designed road sign and a rather beautiful car for Toad. The switch from outside to inside in the animated version is terrific, and that twitching nose is a very cute touch. Charming. A fine rat/hedgehog combo from michael sinclair, with a two-frame animated version - nice, and I like the pulsating midriff. Watch those stray hairs, though, especially over the front legs; maybe add some loose hairs on the top to cover them up? A terrific bit of politics from Mariner, with our Prime Minister standing in for the Mad Hatter - appropriately enough. Some great added detail here, such as the bagpipes, hammer and sickle, and union jack waistcoat. And a beautifully rendered cartoon effect. A standing moonrat from srawland, neatly repositioned on its back legs - perfectly achieved. A really funny animated version, with terrific moonwalking motion on the rat - brilliant. And yes, your friend Tony is a real star. |

Re: Challenge 781: The moonrat
Thanks Steve, I am glad to be back in your good books! I once watched a TV interview with David Attenborough. He was asked which animal he feared the most. "The African elephant" he said. And which animal did he dislike the most? "The rat", he said. "I was once sitting on a toilet and a rat crawled out of the toilet right between my legs!" I'll never forget that. |
