Re: Challenge 790: The treehouse
Our first architectural arborealist this week was DavidMac, with a truly glorious structure seemingly made of steel struts. Beautifully detailed, from the new pathway at the front to the shadows on the struts; looks like you could do with some glass in here, though, or it’ll get draughty. And maybe some curtains. I must get a sweater like that, it suits me.

A fine house from Ben Mills, nestling neatly among the branches. A shame to have to cut one of them off to make room for the balcony, but it looks like a neat job. All it needs now is a woman in a bikini in the window.

A very hobbity dwelling from Frank, with - good lord - is that me in the driving seat? I hugely enjoyed the animated version, with an outstanding range of sounds that really benefit the video. Excellent movement throughout, with some fine swinging of the treehouse. I particularly enjoy your punchline gags. Terrific work once again, Frank.

I like tooquilos's spiral staircase, and the way the tree has been moved to a rural location; ingenious transformation of the gap between the trunks into a a cave. Great animal sounds, rippling water and flickering candles in the animated version. But shouldn’t the background and the scientific equipment scale at different rates as the camera tracks out?

Has michael sinclair stayed on topic this week? Well, yes, in the sense that it’s someone who perhaps lives in a tree; and no, in that it’s a different tree. The star attraction here, of course is the rippling water. I enjoy that effect, but have always been frustrated by the fact that the waterline has to be dead straight or the reflections don’t line up. I think the only solution would be to cut the tree into chunks and slide them up and down to create a workable reflection, then place that reflection over the original tree. Does that make sense? Still with photobucket, I see.

A beautiful treehouse from Mariner, in a very fine setting. I like the dynamism between the woman at the top and the man with the boat, and the shadows on the treehouse work well. A couple of queries, though: should the ground shadow be such a hard cutoff? The shadows on the treehouse suggest there’s a lot more leafy foliage up there. And is that staircase perhaps too small for its intended users? The handrail should come up above waist level, surely. I like the monkey, though.

Congratulations to Ant Snell on grandfatherhood. Last time I was in CenterParcs it burnt down. Very dramatic.

Yes. I tried some reflections but it just got too confused. So then I simply reduced contrast a bit through the glass. But looking at the image again I realise I did it on the right hand two domes but completely omitted to do it on the dominant left hand one. Quelle bêtise!!

As for curtains ..... well there's an ingenious challenge in itself. Curtain the interior of a geodesic dome ?!?

Thanks David. Yes, the stairway is from scratch.

Re: Challenge 790: The treehouse
Thank you Steve. It was quite a difficult task, I thought. Only a very small treehouse, practically a doll's house, would fit easily into that gap and then the girl had to be small to be in proportion. That made her about 10 years old. This caused the fig leaves to be huge in comparison to her, but I let that go.

No, a little softening would have been better.

Yes, unless the intended users are young children. Even then it's a bit small but when I had it bigger it looked out of proportion with the "dolls" house.
I disliked this challenge at first because the trees looked so unnatural, but when I had finally worked out what to do with them the picture started to come to life.

Thanks so much Steve. Takes awhile to do these as I play in the program as I go trying different things as a way to learn. Also plenty of work in PS. Have a nice week.
And yes, you are the driver.
Off now to bring a tortoise back to life - maybe ?

Thank you Steve, David, Frank and Michael.

Michael (Mariner) I was looking at all the entries over the weekend and I noticed something in yours..There's a familiar looking person disguised as a wood nymph there ...

Ahh - I completely missed that! Extra points for smuggling a hidden character past me, Michael.
