Loved every second. The famous "tortoise glide". ![]() ![]() ![]() I won't for a minute suggest that it might have something to do with avoiding seeing legs ........... ![]() I love the fairy's deep perspective from background to foreground and the way she flits so swiftly from place to place. Based upon my personal experiences of fairyhood, I would have to say very realistic! (No post by the way. Photographed with giant props) ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 791: Tortoiseshell
First to attempt to revive the tortoise this week was DavidMac, with a really funny tortoise-eye view. The skeletal flippers set the scene nicely. A perfectly revived tortoise from Ben Mills, who even managed to squeeze a girl in a swimsuit in there. I like the oversized plant setting - very surreal. A truly remarkable second entry, the shell making a fine pie crust. I’d like to see a little thickness on the cutaway part of the crust, though. A watery offering from tooquilos, with a very convincing semi-submerged tortoise: I have to say, your ability to put things underwater is impressive. I like how the title in the animated version sits on the horizon. Is that Ayers Rock that sprouts a head and legs? The island tortoise is most impressive, and I like the detail such as the surf around the edge. Good choice of soundtrack! It looks as if DavidMac has been to Les Machines de l’Ile in Nantes - I’d recognise that roundabout anywhere. And the tortoise blends in nicely with the other bizarre rides, especially with the comfort of the added seat and grab bar. Very nicely done. A moment of protest from michael sinclair over “another mummified monstrosity”, but then a remarkably effective two-framer. I wonder if the front tortoise’s shadow should move so much, though? The sun isn’t jumping around between frames, just the legs. And I still find your habitually busy skies very distracting. Our Prime Minister - or a rather svelte version of him - about to discus-throw the tortoise, according to lwc. I wonder how he’s holding it: one finger in each hole, like a bowling ball? I’ve been converted into a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle by Born2Run, created courtesy of Photoshop for iPad. The elements are all there (except I seem to have lost my hands), but I do have to disagree with you about the capabilities of the app. I’ve just recorded a training course on it for LinkedIn Learning, and I’ve been surprisingly impressed by what it can do. OK, it’s not the full Photoshop, but it’s capable of much more refinement than you give it credit for. An absolutely charming reanimation from Frank, with a very fine animated (and cutout) fairy - its movement around the screen is beautifully thought-out. A great way not to have to bother with too may moving legs on the tortoise, too. Very nicely done, Frank. A reference to Alice in Wonderland from Josephine Harvatt, whose mock turtle has sprouted a cow’s head. And does it have three front legs? Two holding the handkerchief, one on the ground? A very puzzling image, and a very surreal one. A gaudy decorated turtle from Ant Snell, which makes a fine jewel box. Trump’s view is exactly right. And an excellent reflection, which must have taken some planning. But - silver? Not gold? Cheapskate! A tremendous giant tortoise from Mariner, complete with battling cave people (cavemen and cavewomen?). Very nicely constructed. Slightly inconsistent shadows - the one on the man is coming from a low upper right, whereas the shadow of is much softer and seems to be almost directly below it. I like the tail. Do tortoises have tails, though? |

Re: Challenge 791: Tortoiseshell
Thank you Steve. Strangely this is not Les Machines de L'Ile, although that is somewhere I really want to visit! This is a small steam punk carousel that comes a couple of times a year to Brussels. In the next couple of days I'll post some photos in straight photography. You will love it. It's completely in the spirit of your odd 'constructions'. One for Anna to enjoy too I suspect. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

There's not much gets past you, Steve. Except you have missed a word out of your sentence!
Some do, some don't. Your image's skeleton does. Tortillus Giganticus Antiquitus definitely did. |

Re: Challenge 791: Tortoiseshell
Thanks Steve - but there are just two front legs - one holding the hanky and a back leg - the other back leg has already gone for soup. _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Re: Challenge 791: Tortoiseshell
Ah see what you mean - the third front leg is what I took to be the bottom lip of the shell! Mystery solved! _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Re: Challenge 791: Tortoiseshell
Thank you Steve. Yes, the original image had Ayers Rock in it but I removed and replaced it with the tortoise. The song is "My Island Home" performed by The Warmupi Band..an Australian indigenous band. I used the lyrics as inspiration for the animation.. Six years I lived in the desert and every night I dreamt of the sea..my island home is waiting for me. _________________ Dorothy: Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore |
