Well, in the past when I've been stumped for what to do, I look at what others have done and get some inspiration. I've enjoyed the entries, but so far I've still got nothing. _________________ I'm still learning. |

Frank, really brilliant! From the moving question mark to the shading around the objects. Very well done. The added video at the end is a bonus treat. _________________ Dorothy: "there's no place like home!" |

Re: Challenge 801: Amusez-vous avec Garcimore
What I mean is that I am not having any original ideas. If I had thought of something and someone else posted an image similar first I'd continue working on mine. However, I didn't have any ideas and if I did do something it would just be derivative. Often I look at other's submissions and I get an original idea. None came this time even though the submissions have been excellent. I feel a better use of my time is to make masks, which takes me a long time because I don't have a sewing machine and have to hand sew them. _________________ I'm still learning. |

I am intrigued, Sara, do you mean the sort worn by bank robbers? |

Re: Challenge 801: Amusez-vous avec Garcimore
Well, I suppose a bank robber could wear them. In this country we are encouraged to cover our faces with home made masks when we are outside because so many people who have the virus don't know they have it and could be spreading it unknowingly. Also, three layers of tightly woven cotton have been shown to block about 60% of .3 micron particles which is the size of the virus. _________________ I'm still learning. |

Fairy
Steve, you will surely notice that the original fairy has no shadow from her right arm That's because I had no idea how to do it which looked natural. So, as I am under house arrest at the moment, and a bit bored, I decided to create a quick sketch of the fairy from an unusual angle which will show where the shadow is supposed to be. Quick? What a joke. The viewer is supposed to be directly behind the light (really?) and so, I think, it should be possible to deduce where the shadow is supposed to be. This is difficult stuff, and maybe someday will make an interesting challenge. ![]() |

Re: Challenge 801: Amusez-vous avec Garcimore
First to open the box this week was tooquilos, with collection of interesting items including a mouse, a trumpet, a video and a couple of giant dice… and a spotted handkerchief. An interesting mix of real film and 3D in the animated version, and a funny ending. I like the eaten-away lid of the box. 3D fun in GKB's slick animation, with an array of magical objects bursting out of the seemingly empty box. They’re all really nicely animated, getting more and more surprising. I fear that music, though, will be plaguing me for days. A remarkably cute rabbit barely squeezes out of DavidMac's hat. The rear spotlight is excellent, with realistic backlit fur, and the wraparound label on the hat is neat. Perhaps some small thickness needed on the brim, though? Vintage magic from Vibeke, all perfectly in period. The added box, dove and book work really well; I think it’s only the coffee table that’s at slightly the wrong perspective and a little too saturated. That budgie cage takes me back. Animated magic from Frank, who’s clearly discovered a box of special effects. Really nicely done - that disappearing Paf! Is spot on - and I like the use of filmed animals incorporated into the video, which gives it a really special feel. The film clip at the end says it all, though, doesn’t it. A fairy in a box from Mariner, who has lovingly restored the lid. Great lighting, and I like how Garcimore is looking at the fairy. Is it normal for fairies to wear cheesecloth shirts, though? The shadow of the fairy’s right arm, as you point out, is a really tricky one to get right; I suspect it will be hidden inside the box. I do think her shoulders and head need to cast a shadow on the wings, though. And unless the box is in a haystack, that’s a very odd angle on the background surface. |

Thanks Steve, an interesting and testing challenge.
I don't know, Steve, I very rarely meet a fairy.
Oh yes, Steve, it's definitely in a haystack. Legend has it that fairies are very fond of haystacks. |

Yes. Quite right it should. Especially in a strong backlight. I missed that completely. Thanks! _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
