Re: Challenge 831: The cauldron
It's because the .jpg extension was missing from the file name. I've fixed it now. Photoshop, for the last few versions, has this awkward state whereby when you use Save for Web and are prompted for a name when saving the file, it selects the whole of the file name including the extension. If you just enter the file name the extension will be deleted. It's a real pain, and I have pointed it out to Adobe but they say it's Apple's fault or some such nonsense. You just need to make sure the extension is there before uploading to the site. |

Re: Challenge 831: The cauldron
I've taken the scene outside into a Viking village setting, trying to imagine how that huge pot would function and what the surroundings would be like. The angel of the photo limits one from being able to establish a large surrounding. I cut the woman out and placed it on a plane, then added an alpha plain, faced the plain towards the camera and set about aligning it to the scene. Not an easy task mind you. After crashing my system 3 times and wasting many hours over the last 2 days, trying to identify the problem, I have decided to cut 3 figures, that of a Viking girl and a Viking and horse. Once rendered, I added the dog and some chickens and tweaked the image a lot. I attempted to add specular light but found the figure to small to manipulate, seeing as i'm still using a mouse to draw and not a tablet. Old habit die hard hey David....lol ![]() _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

Re: Challenge 831: The cauldron
I like what you did with your next image, David. That light through the hole in the roof, is a lovely touch. I know what you mean about that vacant look. I tried to get her engaged in a conversation with my other lifeless figure...your favorite... ![]() Loyd, I like the life you gave the woman. It's great. I have some photos of a Viking outpost. If you want, you can message me your e-mail and i'll send you a couple. Clever manipulating the image in it's setting Vibeke. I especially like the braai (BBQ) fork you put in her hand. Nice job. I'm surprised no one has taken that horn behind her head and made a helmet for her. Lovely clip Gordon, all in the spirit of Halloween. Well done. Lol savage Michael. Trump dump in the cauldron... ![]() _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

Re: Challenge 831: The cauldron
Very clever images this week. David your image looks like a postcard. Beautiful. Loyd, those huts are gorgeous. Would love one of those in my back yard ![]() Vibeke, I love how you have kept the background but just changed it around. Very well done. I too struggled with her face. In the end I couldn't stand looking at her vacant expression - so it was replaced ![]() I haven't tried it but I wonder if by replacing her eyes with an image of real eyes, would that make her look real or at least, a bit more authentic? http://vimeo.com/477795762 ![]() _________________ Wicked Witch of the West:I'll get you, my pretty! Re: Challenge 831: The cauldron
Thank you everybody for your kind comments on my re-hashed image. Dennis, oddly, I like the sombre misty background of your image more than the foreground. Now an oddity that seems to have caught out a number of us. Steve's photo is from quite close and, as is often the case when he cannot physically get back from the subject, on a wide'ish lens. Nearly all of us have moved her and her cauldron into the middle distance. When you do this the close up perspective fails and cauldron appears to be tilted towards camera because in the original we are looking down into it. I didn't catch on to this at all until I actually made my composite. So then I flattened the ellipse of the open top of the cauldron to compensate. Not sure I did it enough even so. Curious to hear what the Guru has to say. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 831: The cauldron
Dennis - Well done, I too really like the early morning mist. Thanks for your offer of images, I moved in a different direction completely however. My final entry is finished but not up-loaded yet... several versions actually, I just have to decide which one... I thought that I was the only one still using a mouse...lol. Anna - Mystical image works quite well... nicely done. The huts would be great in anyone's backyard... would be fun to have. David - I also had to modify the ellipse for my final version. Probably not immediately noticeable however. |

Re: Challenge 831: The cauldron
Tidlig Morgen 2 Thanks David. I thought the Daz model would steer you away from the fore ground...lol. Good observation on the perspective. I battled with this hence the swivel pole for the cauldron. Notice the cauldron cable is not perpendicular due to it being swung into place over the fire and being tilled by the embers pushed to one side. This also kept her clothes safe from catching fire. Thanks Loyd. Can't wait to see your next clip. Nice video Anna. Love the cat's motion. So typical. I'm re-posting my image with an additional 3 figures. I eventually deleted most of my scene and managed to merge them into the original render, in Photoshop. I don't think it's obvious. I just felt there wasn't enough activity going on. The viking leading the horse looks a bit limp but it is early in the morning and his mind is on his task ahead. ![]() _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

Well Hieronimus that is truly splendid! What a bizarre leap to this from the original. I think it's just brilliant! _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
