Loyd. I find the printed look you have achieved very convincing.

Thanks David. As is often the case, I 'painted' myself into a corner with this one... I made so many variants that I had difficulty choosing which one to post.

Oh yes! I know that feeling!

I like the original post although if I am absolutely honest I find the saturated yellow behind "dans" a bit too much. But the overall effect is great.

David, the winemaker entry is wonderful. He is exactly the sort of person I would expect to see in this cellar.
Loyd, out of the two posters, my vote goes towards the warmer tones.

Anna, the monk going down the passage with the the flames illuminating everything, and then the monk chanting something along with a cat and a rat is so...professional!

Thanks Anna.

Yours is, as ever, lovely. I must confess however I find the 'hovermonk' a bit disturbing.

Unexpected as in "For him to publish such rubbish was unexpected"

Or as in "Good work! Totally unexpected from the likes of him!"

I am joking David.

Thanks Loyd. Steve often gives us gloomy picutres. I love to brighten them up.

Re: Challenge 836: The cognac cellar
First to knock back the cognac was lwc, with a rather fine flooded cellar. I really like the floating barrel and the mouse. Is it possible to have the reflection at other than a straight line along the back, though? It makes the barrels look rather two-dimensional. A beautifully distressed poster in the second entry; great choice of font for Otard, even if it is pushing it back a couple of decades.

I greatly enjoyed DavidMac's candlelit entry, with its subtle lighting. I like the extended row of barrels, but do they seem to be falling forward compared to those on the right? A spectacular cobweb-infested second entry, though - I just wish for one of those candles to be still working here. I really like how you’ve broken away the plaster to reveal the wall behind - perfect job. And the Disneyfied third entry is just horrible - but in a good way, if you get my drift.

A terrific animation from michael sinclair, with a single cognac barrel floating down river. I like how it bobs into the scene at the beginning. Very fine, Michael. I like the tension in the second entry! And I think on balance I prefer it to the third.

An excellent portrayal of drunkenness in Ant Snell’s entry, with a perfect pose from the woman and great additions. A couple of suggestions, though: you might want to take a little of the cognac out of the bottle; and she really should be drinking cognac rather than burgundy:

Immaculate work from tooquilos, with a hooded monk at the ledger. I like the extra bottle rack, and the bottle of Otard. I see from the animated version he’s one of those special hovering monks - but I like how he wafts back and forth. The video of the mouse and cat really make the final scene.

A move to outdoors from Mariner, with a cleaned-up cellar and some additional machinery and staff. The hands on the ledger are a perfect fit. A really innovative approach, Michael, and beautifully achieved. My only criticism would be of the man at the barrel: he’s neither in the shadow nor sunlit.

Loyd, David, Anna, Michael P: very fine poster distressing.
