Lovely David, I thought the first one was best, but now I must consider it to be in a tie with this latest effort...

David I am doing something very similar to your last entry. You must have read my mind.
...I still really don't know if this is clever or merely profligate.

As I do more or less the same I obviously think it is clever. Who knows until the end what needs to be changed, so I too keep everyting easily fixable. Then I don't have to go back and reload an earlier version.

David I notice you upload very large files to Staticflickr. When I do that on Wordpress I get ads every time I access them, so I stay at 1500x625 px, with no ads. Do you pay for your website? Mine is free, so that's probably their way of keeping my file size down.

Free. Up to 1000 full res images. If you go to flickr and start scanning through my pictures you'll get ads every fourth picture or so. But I don't use it that way. I don't give people access to my gallery. I only ever use it to link to specific images as here in HTCP. In fact that's almost the only reason I have the account at all.

Great work, I will have to find out about linking to Flickr I have an account, and usually spend ages here to get my images down to the allowed size.

I don't want to clog things up here any more than I have already. I've posted how to link to Flickr in the General Comments section for you. It's dead easy.

Very much a rush job in response to recent events but you get the picture

Like 'Tea Break' Michael! Nice touch.

Interesting how the natural reflections which were already in the upper part of the original image work so perfectly with your opening to the outside.

I am amazed that you have managed to clean up such a battered image so extensively.

I think I'd have been tempted to stick his head in the oven.

Very nicely done. I find the burning flag particularly convincing.

Hah! Vibeke!

You might just be the first person to get this right!

.... and we all missed it. Ash would indeed be shovelled from the bottom.

Go hang your head in shame David .................

Re: Challenge 838: The ash tunnel
BTW if you look at your image you will see what I meant in my post about linking. There is a link to the right of your image. Clicking on Vibeke Friis takes me to your entire gallery. Which, incidentally, is very interesting.

If however you would prefer this to remain discreet. Then delete the second part of the link as described in my post.

Thanks, David, both for your praise and your help. My Flickr account isn't private, so I'm quite happy for people to have a look. I like to share my photos.

Thanks David. It was a ruse to avoid putting a man in front of my oven.

Yes, it works well, although technically not right.
I am amazed that you have managed to clean up such a battered image so extensively.

It's called staying power. It passed many happy hours in total lockdown.

Happy new year everybody. I hope your year is proving to be better than mine.

With over 300 assets, it's no wonder my system keeps crashing every time I try to render. I would have like to do more however, even though it is not finished, it would be a shame not to post it. This is a screen clip of the render.

Lovely images everyone.

Re: Challenge 838: The ash tunnel
First to light the furnace this week was DavidMac, with a frankly astonishingly good entry. The lighting, the flames, the man raking the ashes, the track extension - all just perfect. You set the bar really high here, David. Not suer about the electric lights in the second entry; well enough done, but I think they draw focus away. I was entertained by the updating in the third entry, however - all apart from the dodgy perspective on the computer panel. I like the tea lady, even if her trolley is somewhat skewed. Of course, the master restorer Mariner was absolutely right about adding windows, as you have done in the fourth entry. The extended fifth entry is magnificent. I can’t begin to imagine the work you’ve put into this. And the lighting is much better!

Fine work from tooquilos, with a moved cart and especially good twinkly lights. I like the new doors, but is that shadow of the door on the flames? I like how the animated version starts outside the tunnel. But once inside, the rolling cart with its spinning wheels, and the sliding doors (shadow again) are glorious. And the way the ash leaps out into the cart… but it’s the water puddle bottom left that really makes this scene for me.

An artfully extended room from Mariner, with the exterior view setting the scene perfectly. I like the snowman. Opening the bottom hatch works really well, although I wonder (a) whether there would really be a flame down there, rather than just more ash, and (b) whether the light from it should be more yellow than white. But these are minor points in a beautiful reconstruction.

I’m always impressed with Josephine Harvatt’s ability to spot a political relevance in a Challenge - but also with her impressive Photoshop skills. A really splendid piece of work, not just in what it’s saying but in its execution - the lighting is perfect, and that flag really looks like it’s on fire. Outstanding.

A clever approach from Vibeke - yes, of course, they’d rake the ash out of the bottom! Brilliant deduction. And a very neatly opened door. The man with the rake is spot on, and I like the extended rails. Good work!

I’m always fascinated by dwindt's 3D skills, and this is no exception: a completely rebuilt ash tunnel, closely modelled on the original. Beautiful, and extraordinary. Do you do animations as well? I’d love to look around this room.

Thanks Steve. I knew it wasn't right but the grocery delivery van was imminent and I decided to call it a day.
