I love it David! Imagine the neighbours waking up and seeing Moai snowmen - they would do a double take!

Vibeke. To me there is something utterly satisfying about the simplicity of this.

If the obove image is too big for comfort I apologize. I am still feeling my way in flickr.com and will make the next image smaller.

Great, I'm so happy David showed me how to use Flicker and avoiding having to spend so much time reducing my image before posting.
Thank you and David for your kind words about my entry.

Re: Challenge 843: The sculptor
Michael if that sculpture is of the lady chiseller, then well done, but in any case please tell how you did it please

Michael don't change a thing with your image size: it comes out the same size like everybody else's

Imgur is the very best out there: it's free!, It's completely trouble-free! , It's faaast! And It's 20 mb limit is more than enough for most applications!-- and to think I suffered under Px*%$F*£*xT for so many years.

I forgot to mention the the monument/statue is from Norway's Vigeland Sculpture Park.

Re: Challenge 843: The sculptor
First to construct this week’s sculpture was DavidMac, with a cheeky but perfectly achieved defacement of Michelangelo. Really funny work, and the slanting shadow over David is perfect. Personally, I’d have stuck a new tree in the background rather than trying to rebuild the existing one from a few leaves. I like the second entry, but the embossing has the effect of making the bottle look rather flat, despite the shading. A very tricky illusion to pull off! A brilliant statement in the third entry - now there’s a metaphor for our times.

Brilliant work from GKB, greatly enhanced by the stone rubble on the planks. And I’m delighted to see my Wind sculpture recreated in stone. Excellent.

A terrific animation from lwc, with a perfectly hammering arm: the chippings are a great touch. Not sure about the smoke. Best detail for me, though, is the woodpecker.

An Moai head from tooquilos, with the whole sculpting assembly ingeniously moved to Easter Island. I see she has an automatic turntable in the animated version - excellent. Cute dog, and that’s an ingenious crane device that lowers it into place. And I like how it settles into its final location.

A charming entry from Frank, with the sculptor carving a portion of a Gothic cathedral. The recoloured sheets are a good distraction, but I think the trees are a clone too far.

In terms of accuracy, Vibeke has got it exactly right: this is precisely the set of sculpture that appears on this site. Immaculate work, and thoroughly convincing.

For once michael sinclair is bang on topic, with an ingenious and fully engaging animation. The way the man flexes as he climbs the column is spot on. One observation, though: if you make the man’s shadow a separate layer then you can use the sculpted column as a Clipping Mask, so the shadow doesn’t leak over the edge as you move it up.

Once again Mariner has done something extraordinary. Not only moving the entire scene indoors, but having the woman sculpt a giant version of her own head is just amazing. I note the new legs and indeed face you’ve given her. As ever it’s the details here that really intrigue: having her polishing the sculpture, and there’s a real frostiness to that bottle of water. Perfect, Michael.

Thanks Steve, Yes I agree - too much tree clone - I thought later should have just inserted a new tree . Far easier, less hassle, would have looked better.

Re: Challenge 843: The sculptor
Michael, I am glad you liked the sculpture. The secret is to search the web using the parameters "marble", "bust" and "profile" and look for something like the one below.
Then you overlay the image of the woman and carve the statue's features to match. I needed to move the eyes and mouth and stretch the face here and there.
Then I found a headscarf, a "hijab" which matched closely and added that, changing it's colours.
Adding appropriate shadows makes it come to life.

Yes it's very repeat clone. You're quite right.

Thanks Steve. Glad you liked them. I found this one fun but surprisingly difficult.

Thank you so much Steve

Michael, thank you for the explanation as to how you achieved the face. I was wondering how you did it. Excellent.
