Lovely work everybody. I started this image over the weekend but due to the floods, I only picked it up again today. My pc at work would not render it so I took screen shots of it and bashed it together at home. Really an emotional time in Natal with close to 400 dead and still 600 plus not accounted for. Houses collapsing and taking entire families with them. A body washed up at work today alongside one of the ships. God be with those that have suffered so much.  _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

First to heat up the furnace this week was DavidMac, with a great sense of sparky, fiery atmosphere. The rear blacksmith is either rising from the flames or half encased in chimney, though - but why let reality spoil a good picture. I enjoyed lwc's running shrew, as well as the moose that ambles past the window. Perhaps move the moose down a little, so it doesn’t appear to be levitating? A fun spider-beating second entry, with a couple of blacksmiths for whom health and safety clothing is clearly optional. I do like the bird, though, and the sparks. I make a guest appearance in Ant Snell’s entertaining post. I really like the fact that you’ve got me working on one of my old sculptures here, the splendid lighting blending it into the scene perfectly. Really good, Ant. An immaculate scene from Frank, with a perfect pair of blacksmiths at work. The lighting is spot on, with the fire as the light source. Beautiful. A Fabergé easter egg from Josephine Harvatt, with a blacksmith that looks like he’s enjoying his work. Is he knocking up an iron crucifix as well? I like the glow on the egg; maybe it should tint the blacksmith? Outstanding work from michael sinclair, the hard-edged HDR effect very effective in tying all the components together. I particularly like the subtle body movement as the hammers rise and fall. And to answer your earlier questions: I didn’t use a displacement map on the banner because I didn’t think of it. And I have no idea how that emoticon slipped in there! I put it down to being away from home and completing the text on my iPad. Mr and Mrs Smith, courtesy of Mariner, look like they’re forging their own Oscars. I’d been hoping you’d de-rust the anvils. I like the open windows, but that glass could definitely do with a scrub - and why is it refracting the view through it so much? A hugely atmospheric entry from dwindt, quite painterly in its approach. There’s a real sense of drama here. And thanks for the work update, Dennis - I can’t imagine what you must be going through there. Apologies from Tooquilos, who has been struck down with Covid for the second time. I had a nice shiny anvil ready but decided not to use ti. No the windows aren't perfect, but it was a very big challenge this week and time was going to be short, so I left them as they were. Thanks, Steve, interesting Challenge. See you next week. |

Anna, sorry to hear you're sick, and particularly for the second time, hope its not too severe. I have many friends here who now have it , damned stuff will not go away. All the best and hopefully a speedy recovery. |

Thanks Steve. Beautiful stuff guys. Get well soon Anna. Yes Steve, we're all sitting here holding our breaths. From a beautiful morning without a cloud in sight, the wind picked up and it clouded over in minutes. There was talk about a 2nd cyclone south of us, that had changed its coarse and was heading our way. I suspect this is it but hopefully it has lost it's momentum.
