This is how I would like my life to be one day, when I finally get the chance to move to Alaska!

I'm very sorry to hear you're unwell, Michael. Get well soon x

Wonderful to see the gnomes and moose make an appearance. They always bring a smile to my face
Like Born2run, I would love a cabin like this. I'd even settle for a stone one.
David, that thatching is incredible. Very well done.

Thanks for your concerns, everybody

Wow! Anna you're in a league of your own!

Don't worry Steve, the log cabin is in the entry, but it is hidden by the trees.

I dealt with this problem by selecting the yellow-ish lighting and putting it on its own layer. Then I used a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. I selected colourise and moved the Hue control nearly all the way to the left. Then I tweaked the saturation to remove some of the colour followed by darkening it down. After that I masked around the edge with a very soft brush to blend it into the rest of the log wall.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Gordon. An admirably concise clear explanation! Have you by any chance been reading some bloke called Caplin?

Yes. That's very much how, after several dead ends, I ended up treating it too.

Here's a rather less admirably concise explanation: As per your method, I started off isolating the yellow onto its own layer (with Colour Select). After a number of fruitless attempts at colour corrections I ended up doing exactly what you did - colorisation. Here I differed from you by splitting the logs and thatched eave onto separate layers so as to colorise them differently - the logs to a dark brown and the thatch to a yellow beige. The original yellow light was very frontal and flat so, at this point, even though the colours matched, the colorised areas looked very 'flabby' compared to their surroundings. I tweaked them with curves and a bit of sharpening to get some texture and contrast back. If you look at 'Butlinsk' you will see that, in the end, the eventual match is pretty well indistinguishable from its surroundings.

What I love about this group is how often we reach the same end by quite different means. In this case it is interesting how we both arrived independently at a similar approach.

The gnomes were a purely personal challenge to accept the bright yellow in all it's saturated glory and find a way to use it.

Great entries folks, nice innovative work all around - well wishes Michael S. - plenty of Covid around here as well.
Yes , that lighting did create somewhat of a problem depending on your approach.

Wow! that's brilliant Frank! I would not have thought it possible that Steve's atrocious starting image could be made good! Unfortunately, this will encourage the site owner to do more of the same in future.

Yes, I still tested positive today--in for the long haul.

That is just gorgeous Frank. You have not only accommodated the difficulties but produced something that is both natural, human and really quite dramatic at the same time. I can't begin to tell you how many little details I like about this.

Truth to tell I am feeling rather envious ..............

It's different for all of us. But after three days of horribleness and testing relentlessly positive it disappeared almost overnight. Left me very tired and depleted for a few days after but at my age I guess that's all very good news.

Finger's crossed Michael!

What fun entries, great work by all... bears, jack-o-lanterns, trains, healers, and such.

Frank, you have set a higher bar for yourself... lovely image. I am curious, did you use Flowscape for any part this effort?

Get well soon Michael...!

Thanks Loyd, no it was all put together in Photoshop, a Dodge and Burn soft light layer was utilized and finally I used a couple of" Boris FX Optics 2022 " filters at the very end to help bring it all together.
The lighting on that cabin cried out for autumn lighting.

Re: Challenge 926: The cabin in the woods
I see you have been taking thatching lessons too. From a much neater teacher it would seem. Great re-build! I

Something however is bugging me. Is it just me or is there something odd about the tiger on his way to lunch? (Glad she's got the rifle handy).

I can't quite put my finger on why, but somehow the tiger feels like a flat cutout. My first thought was that you had rotated a profile, but the head and face shows this clearly to be a genuine three quarter view. I think it's maybe something to do with the feet all being on the same plane where they meet the floor boards.

Of course it's equally possible that it's just my imagination playing tricks on me. I'll be curious hear what Steve has to say.

Lovely classic Mariner work.

David I too am uneasy about the tiger. Maybe it's because I desaturated him too much. Maybe the shadows behind him aren't dark enough. I spent some time trying different shading on his body. After a while I couldn't see the wood for the trees any more and posted the entry. Thanks for the compliments. I found this challenge amongst the hardest I have ever done. It stretched my imagination. Only today did I manage to invent some kind of a plot which stopped the whole thing from looking like a 'House For Sale' advert.

Wow, some lovely entries. Outstanding!

Get healthy soon Michael. Blow the virus up in true style.

Mariner, drop the tigers rear. See the perspective line of the cabin log across the tiger's back. Check your shadow. The cabin fore roof is in shadow. The shadow you've given the tiger would put that cabin roof in light. According to the rest of the image, Imo, the shadow would be cast further towards the cabin corner in front of it. The shadow cast from front paw and across the deck should be running forward, not back, placing the face shadow close to the corner log ends.

I love the cabin rebuild though.

Thanks Dennis, I am sure you are right. Sometimes I find shadows very difficult to imagine, but I think I am getting better with practice. Thanks for your, and Steves, advice.
