Re: Challenge 928: Nurse! Nurse!
First to put on scrubs this week was lwc with a Halloween special, complete with glowing pumpkin (and a very fine pumpkin it is, too). I think the patient might be beyond medical care. Four horsemen of the apocalypse over the bed! Ha! A touch of politics from GKB, neatly pointing out the state of British finances. I really like the multicoloured extrusion - ingenious. The monitors and signs work well, but that’s a really tiny doctor who’s barely big enough to reach over the bed. I do like the glass wall in the second entry, but perhaps the wall on the right could be extended off the frame? A fine array of 3D characters from dwindt, with a surgeon who seems to be enjoying his job a little too much. I like the way you’ve bent the screen back so the man can peer around it, and the extra touches like the slippers, flowers and food work well. Of particular note are the raised bedclothes caused by her legs - really nicely done. A charming scene from Frank, with a well-lit patient benefiting from the sunshine. I like how you’ve modelled the rest of the room. But I do have to point out your perspective issue: the angles furniture suggest a horizon that matches what we can see through the window. So why are the medical staff so far below it? It makes them look like children. Despite michael sinclair rejecting the original image, this is a rather fun animation, with neat leg movement and a good reveal of the characters. But you can’t create reflections like this just by flipping vertically! Look at the feet of the woman third from left, or indeed the wheels of the screen furthest from the camera. And when the screen reflection overlaps the people, we shouldn’t be able to see them multiply like that. As neither the bed nor the table produced reflections, maybe the people shouldn’t either? Good to see the old entry again, but once again you’ve flipped the reflections of the shoes and it doesn’t work: this approach always lifts the heels off the ground, and we should barely be able to see the tops fo the shoes in the reflections. An astonishing alien from Ben Boardman, with a vast amount of detail and a huge cast of characters. Buy favourite elements are the woman offering the tray of cookies, and photographer on the ladder, the policemen at the side and the man reading the newspaper in the poster. There’s a lot to look at here! Excellent work. A remarkable rebuild from Mariner, with two women celebrating the end of a hospital stay. Great lighting and shadows. A few points: the people seem too large for the bed; the mattress isn’t thick enough to contain the lower thigh and knees of the woman kneeling on it; and if she’s being welcomed home, why is she clearly still in a hospital? |

They are big girls aren't they!
Oh, she gets in somehow.
Hmm. Clearly? Maybe. It was a difficult challenge because the original was dark, gloomy, and too dirty to be a real hospital. The dreadful wide angle distortion needed to be straightened out. The horrible flash lighting needed changing, but most difficult of all was finding someone plausible to put in the bed. I failed to find anyone and had to improvise. No matter, it was a fun challenge which kept me busy for many hours. Thanks. |

Thanks Steve, that old perspective trap again - I adjusted image and looks more realistic. |

Re: Challenge 928: Nurse! Nurse!
Thank you, Steve. My image is based on a visit to Roswell, New Mexico attempting to tell the story of a happening there in July 1947 (calendar). July 5 the newspaper headline read “RAAF Captures Flying Saucer on Ranch in Roswell” after rancher W.W. Brazel walked into the sheriff’s office in Corona, N.M., to report a “flying disk” he might have found on his property. The military quickly withdrew the newspaper statement claiming it was a weather balloon. Supposedly there were aliens in the craft and an autopsy was performed. I have seen movie footage (probably fake) of the autopsy. The two military men crouched in the doorway are examining bits from the crash, the weird ruler mentioned in early documentation disappeared. The tea lady is probably vivid imagination |
