Much more difficult to stuff a moose onto a barrel. ![]() |

Love your entry Michael. I couldn't resist the temptation to blend Putin's head more with the statue. ![]() ![]() |

Re: Challenge 948: What can you do with a wood frame?
First to enter the frame this week was lwc, with a splendid stuffed moose. I like the extra bar holding it in place, the lit windows, and especially the rain splashes on the pavement. Oh – and the way the antlers are neatly tucked into the frame. The barrel of monkeys image is greatly enhanced by the barred window in the side, as well as the birds flying in the sky. I enjoyed the space junk! And that’s a fine robot in the Amazon delivery. Has it unpacked itself? Outstanding work from DavidMac, whose image tells a real story. It’s great how you’ve built the rocket out of builder’s parts, and how you found such dilapidated elements. The reflections in the wet ground of the boys running away are perfect. Faultless! And the yellow submarine entry is highly entertaining, although I would question the amount of shadow both beneath the sub and, indeed, on it. I like the ingenuity of the flipped wood stand, which must have required some serious construction skills. A touch of local politics from Ant Snell, whose vegetable stall mocks recent supermarket shortages. Very nicely done, with good angles on the fruit and veg. A couple of small points lower down: lift the front side of the cucumber box, and add a reflection beneath the tomatoes: ![]() A fun entry from Frank, and I have to say 10p does sound like remarkably good value if something of a superspreader event. A great cast of men in more white T shirts than I’ve seen in a long time. Great signage, too, especially the hand lettered Kisses with its backwards E. So do these kissing booths really exist? I think I’ve only seen them in cartoons. An outer space visit from GKB, with its magnificent materialising dalek*. Beautifully done, Gordon, and a very fine impersonation – you clearly have a talent for this sort of thing. I enjoyed the smashed-up image, especially the skill of patching the pavement where you removed the frame. I think you’d have found the wall a lot easier if you’d simply copied and recoloured the wall next door, though. Of course! Ben Boardman’s take on Peanuts is exactly how the psychiatric help booth should be brought to life. The position and scale of all the models is perfect, as is the choice of materials – I particularly like the chipboard backing. All that’s needed is a reflection, although actually this is rather interesting as it’s two reflections: a dull, dark one for the damp pavement, and a stronger one for the puddle: ![]() Interestingly, I see you’ve added a reflection of Woodstock in the second entry. A removed frame from tooquilos, with extra foliage and some new heavy rain. Huge fun in the animated version with the missing artworks, and the fiery destruction of the frame. Glorious! I particularly like the animated rain, and the rotating David. It may be 12 years old but I still like michael sinclair’s seascape, even though (a) it has only a tenuous link to the topic, and (b) it makes me seasick. The Egyptian statue of Putin in Mariner's entry is a great use of the wooden frame, and I like the subtle way he’s being held in place. Not entirely convinced by the shadows, especially as the man on the right seems to be lit from the front (and, indeed, he has no shadow). I think also michael sinclair might have a point about Putin’s head. Splendid work this week! * When I was 7 I entered a competition on the back of a cereal packet, the prize being a full size dalek, to be delivered in a full size tardis. They wrote to tell me I’d won – but they’d run out of full size daleks, so sent me a seven inch one instead. That, and the Colgate Ring of Confidence, ruined my faith in advertising. |

Except the blue barrel the dilapidation is all courtesy of David Mac. I love those kind of details because imperfections are what give an image conviction.
I had the devils own job finding a sub with a close to matching perspective. It's not a shape you can manipulate in 2D without distortions. The only one I could find was in sunlight and had other shadows of it's own. I wasn't successful in overcoming this. I very nearly didn't post, except that I though it was good fun. Constructing the flipped stand is exactly the kind of perspective challenge I do like! Seems we all had a good time with this one. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Thank you Steve, your advice is much appreciated. Most of my PS skills come from HTCIPS from CS4 forward & 100% Photoshop. I also enjoy your 2 min PS and the many programs featuring you in YouTube. |
