Re: Challenge 950: Suburban worship
That's lovely Michael. I am sure they would love it!

It all fits together and the shadows (always tricky) are wonderfully consistent. However one anomaly leaps straight out at me. The doorway on the left is perfectly matched, viewed very slightly from the left as it should be. However the window between it and the porch is in fact viewed slightly from the right and has completely the reverse perspective to the oblique stone wall in which it is embedded.

The other window is sufficiently concealed to more or less hide this although the same problem is present.

To demonstrate what I mean, I tried flipping it and slightly distorting it to match the wall perspective, but you have done such a perfect job with the sunlight and shadow that it is not flippable without introducing other problems of reversed lighting.

Sorry Michael, I am being very picky here but it's one those things that once seen you cannot un-see.

Forgive me Michael but, because I'm a big fan and your image is otherwise so utterly impeccable, I couldn't help playing. This is a quickie bodge (I haven't bothered with reflections and stuff) and it's far from perfect but I think it shows what I found so tricky to express properly in words.

Well spotted, David, and quite right. Thank you for taking the time to correct my laziness. It was obvious to me too, but rather time-consuming to correct. After spending many hours on this picture, and with many hours left to do, I thought I would leave the correction until the end. At the end I thought "No-one but the most eagle-eyed is going to spot this, so I will leave it and get an early night". Oops!

Yes well, for all the discussion, I find something terribly satisfying about this image.

Harlesden council planning department has indicated that it is unlikely to grant planning permission for Christchurch's proposed new tower on the basis of 'inappropriate scale for the immediate environment'.

Last minute late night Thursday night afterthought ..... so not very polished.

Re: Challenge 950: Suburban worship
First to take holy orders this week was DavidMac, with a subtle Tardis transformation. The lettering works really well, and I like the detail of the blue doors and the Police Station lamp. An ingenious second entry, with the congregation wearing VR headsets. Clever. I really like the third entry, apart from the misspelling of “Application”. Phartu Grande! Ha!

It’s demolition time for lwc, though holding back from going the full Michael Sinclair. Good movement on the digger, although it could perhaps do with a shadow to ground it. The George Burns cameo in the second entry is fun, with the subtle hand gesture.

A charming entry from michael sinclair, who has sworn off the dynamite this week in favour of a neatly constructed wooden church. I like the retained and extended wall, and the ostrich. Might it have made more sense to flip the church horizontally, though, so it matches the angle of the wall?

It looks like Josephine Harvatt put a lot of effort into bringing a Gothic flavour to the building, so it’s a shame to have so much obscured by the filter. It looks really impressive – can we see the full thing?

It looks like tooquilos is starting from scratch on this church as well, with a beautifully wrought scene of mid-demolition. Glad you could make use of the fence, it was a tricky cutout. An entertaining animated version, with the ghostly figure appearing by the new/old church. I like the animated destruction of the sign, and the live action builder. Had to turn the music off after the first couple of bars though, sorry.

A splendid rebuild from Mariner, keeping the same basic shape but adding a curious mansard roof and a couple of new entrances. Beautiful work – I especially like the detail of the new porch, and the kids sitting on the wall. Just one thing that jumped out at me: the window looks very front-on, compared with the angled view of the porch next to it. Easy to fix. Oh! I was just about to upload my corrected version, but I see DavidMac has beaten me to it.

Late night after a cocktail and some nice wine .......

Once again this challenge looked unpromising but was fun!

Actually there is a small shadow, at the rear and also just behind the blade. Shadows are very difficult for me on a moving animated object since a gif does not support semi-transparencies...

Thanks Steve...

Re: Challenge 950: Suburban worship
Yes, I can see the logic of your suggestion; however, in doing so another problem is created: shadow in direct sunlight.

Good point. But not hard to fix.
