Love both of yours Loyd. You've found some impressive seas there! _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Aha! So it wasn't me just 'seeing' things. The modified version is far more convincing. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

![]() Even the darkness fails to conceal that I can't hold a candle to Michael's immaculate extraction of the boat and rigging. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Thanks David. Yes, it took a while to cut out the rigging. I wonadered if anyone would notice the guy being seasick! |

Re: Challenge 956: The cruel sea
Loyd very effective aquarium ![]() David very beautifully shot image, but the reflection seems wrong: too much deck showing, or is it just me? Take a look at the correct shadow of Mariner's boat ![]() I really love your entry Michael: it doesn't look fake! But "meddler Mike" thought hmmm, what about a bit more sea colour. Only an experiment; a contrast if you like. ![]() ![]() |

Re: Challenge 956: The cruel sea
Oh it's far worse than that Michael! ![]() Steve's photo is taken from above looking down on the deck. In my nighttime scene the camera is much lower. This causes the boat to appear to lean towards us. In the dark I can just about get away with that. The reflection should be, in effect, a view from slightly below. The flipped boat (which is already dodgy the right way up) is anything but when inverted. Once again I had hoped to get away with it by leaving it dark and understated. Truth is, if you hadn't noticed, I am pretty sure Steve would have anyway. The answer, of course, is a rebuild of the boat. It's perfectly possible, but I ran out of steam. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 956: The cruel sea
A little general observation. It occurs to me that part of the success of so many of these images is a really rather remarkable piece of model making. With very few exceptions models almost always suffer from being far too perfect. Too showroom fresh, pristine and immaculate. This model maker has chosen to model a 'real' working boat with all it's scars, patches and rust stains. In my view that is most unusual and highly commendable. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 956: The cruel sea
David, I would explain the perspective issue as: The ship has taken on water and is simply 'listing to port'... ![]() |
