The Vienna sewers. Wonderful black and white photography and a great music track that uses only one simple piece of music in variations for the entire film. .......... and of course the wonderful 'cuckoo clock' line. If you don't know shame on you! _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 962: The submarine base
Rotating Steve's tunnel less head on Following the suggestions that I should rotate Steve's image to produce a less oblique view I have been playing with this as I have some subs that would fit much better with a slightly rotated view. However to do this without it getting too distorted or extreme needs some care. In the end I created a very basic 3D wireframe from the vanishing points and rotated this in true 3D. This has then been exported as a series of rotated grids to match Steve's original image. Since it took a bit of thought and work I thought I might as well share it case anyone else wants to try and fit less brutally head on subs into their image. The five grids below can be downloaded by clicking on the image to get full size and then simply 'right click' downloading. They are exactly the same size as Steve's original so you can simply place the image as a layer onto it and set the layer to multiply mode to create a transparent guide for reshaping the the walls ceiling etc. The rotations are pinned to the tunnel exit and use its left hand edge as the centre of rotation. To minimise unnecessary distortions I have not changed camera height, focal length or field of view. I have simply rotated the tunnel in true perspective relative to camera maintaining all other aspects of the original. Have fun! Fascinating stuff David. You put in a lot of work there. I downloaded Original perspective and, sure enough, it fitted my current image perfectly. I have moved on from from perspective bashing and have deleted my submarine so now I am wondering what to put in its place. |

This is the best I can do for such a difficult challenge. NOTE: I've made the the ladder smaller to give both the subs and the housing have a sense of larger scale. ![]() ![]() |

Re: Challenge 962: The submarine base
Despite the right hand sub looking a little squashed that is seriously impressive Michael! This one is not easy. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 962: The submarine base
I don't know why this one has been so hard but it's been like pulling teeth. First off, there's a lot of mess to clean up and some tricky water stuff to deal with ..... all very fiddly. More frustrating was that, after a lot of research and effort into rotating the tunnel to give me a less oblique submarine match, I found, quite by chance, the perfect head on hi- res U boat in colour and all the 3D tunnel work was rendered completely unnecessary! Anyway here's the final result brought to you in glorious cinemascope! ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 962: The submarine base
Well I was going to post my final effort, but after seeing your magnificent image David, I'm thinking of trashing mine and just waiting for next week's challenge... "in glorious cinemascope", indeed. |

http://vimeo.com/842083971 I'm not thrilled with what I've done this week - blame it on lack of motivation and winter ![]() David, I've enlarged your cinemascope entry to appreciate the finer details. It's beautifully done, particularly the extended bit. The colouring and the mood is perfect. The steampunk 'teapot' made my day, Loyd. And Michael, your rippling water is fabulous. ![]() _________________ Wicked Witch of the West:I'll get you, my pretty! And your little dog, too! |

Re: Challenge 962: The submarine base
Thanks Anna. Hard work but it turned out OK in the end. I really like your sub. No too 'wintry' at all. You set yourself the unusual problem of creating an underwater explosion. I was intrigued by what you did. I thought it was rather clever. It set me wondering what would an underwater explosion really look like. So I was prompted by your animation to go and find out. This is all in miniature but it is completely in keeping with scientific explanations of the same thing at full scale. Basically an expanding and then imploding gas bubble sending out shockwaves. Here and Here. I found it quite fascinating and once again I loved the entry, I think you are being too modest. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Good one Anna, I like it very much. Your comment about the 'teapot' made 'my' day...! ![]() |

Some really nice work from everone. This video has a few rough edges but I have run out of time to smooth them off. http://vimeo.com/manage/videos/842187081 ![]() _________________ Whatever you do in life do it with the enthusiasm of a 4-year old in a Batman suit. |
