Re: Challenge 963: Youthful regeneration
This is pure silliness and, unusually for me, even more off topic than my previous submission. No attempt whatsoever has been made to address the ageing, I just used an image as it comes. This humongously stupid idea came to me quite literally in a dream last night. It stuck with me when I woke and I couldn't resist it. It was an opportunity to try a first ever attempt at a photo real render from Sketchup (which was used to model the domino chain) using Twin Motion, a new free renderer from the makers of the Unreal Engine. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Thanks David. Is "managed not" the same thing as "not managed" ? Only joking! |

Steve, apologies for this very late entry. Don't bother with a critique. |

Re: Challenge 963: Youthful regeneration
First to break out the anti-wrinkle cream this week was GKB, with a thoroughly dewrinkled Ford. Have you gone a bit too far, do you think? Bringing back a little of the original, particularly under the eyes, would help him look less plastic. A bizarre baby monster in the second entry – remember that babies’ features are much larger than adults’ for the size of their head. I like the skull, though. The slow fade in the animated version works really well – but remember to reshape that jawline! It isn’t all about the wrinkles. I was entertained by lwc's Mona Ford, particularly the way it retains the texture and colour of the original painting. The second entry is much more convincing, although the process of making it a GIF does mess with the texture. I like the reshaped jaw. Very good work from Ben Boardman, inserting Ford’s head into a clip from the original Star Wars film. A most convincing entry; I might have sharpened the jaw line a little. I greatly enjoyed the second entry, with spherical dice reminiscent of the ball scene in the original Raiders movie – very nicely done! But while Ford is certainly more youthful, I’m not sure I would have recognised him. Yikes! Horrifying work from Ant Snell. I can feel a law suit pending. What a shocker! A new Indiana Jones adventure from DavidMac. I like the lighting, and the setting. Hard to tell how much work you’ve done on Ford, though, even zooming in; something about the eyes isn’t right. I did enjoy the dominoes entry, though. That must have taken a while to set up. A new movie from tooquilos, with a good poster (although I’m sure you could have found a more impressive font for the subtitle). The gradual fade in the animated version works well, but somehow it goes a little too far – I’m not sure he’s still Ford at the end. A greatly de-aged Ford from michael sinclair, and… well… look, there’s no getting away from it, that’s a seriously mutant kid. At least the image is saved by not being swamped with busy clouds. What sort of woman could have given birth to a child like the? Oh, I see. Good work from Josephine Harvatt, with fewer wrinkle and a subtly reshaped jawline. Those forehead wrinkles are hard to deal with, aren’t they. Very good neck work, though. A movie poster from Mariner, with a Ford who’s largely dewrinkled but still has grey hair (although, to be fair, a darker shade of grey than before). And here was I thinking you were going to redraw him pore by pore. I like the second entry, though, even if we’re perhaps looking down on the floor too much. The thing about these perspective floors is that you can further distort them as much as you like to fit the perspective of the scene. ________ I think one thing a lot of you are missing is the fact that noses and ears get larger as you age. Here’s my somewhat rushed entry. ![]() |

Re: Challenge 963: Youthful regeneration
Very little. I left the work to neural filters. I had to change his eye-line from camera left to camera right which is almost certainly why they ended up odd.
The whole idea was monstrously silly. In real life it would make building Stonehenge look like a trip to the corner shop! In 3D I was found a couple of domino stacks already made and was able to borrow from them to build my own quickly. Not really my subject this week. Win some, lose some. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 963: Youthful regeneration
Brilliant Steve. When you get older noses and ears get bigger do they? Let's have a look at yours then! Thanks Steve. I thought I would get away with some of my faults. And I could have improved on the floor, but it was nearly 4 in the morning and I was a bit tired. |

Not fair! My nose was big to start with. Although my ears remain perfectly formed. |

Thanks Steve - and David for your kind words. Yes the forehead was a right bar stud I think its the subtleties than make iyouthing convincing - like Steve slimming down the nose and - my touch - brightening the whites of the eyes. Its barely noticeable but adds to the overall impression. _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Re: Challenge 963: Youthful regeneration
PS Steve - do our ears and noses get larger or is it that our heads are shrinking ? Hmmm _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Re: Challenge 963: Youthful regeneration
Interesting question. I have no idea if this is really the case, but since heads are more skull based, so to speak, my money is ears and nose changing ...... ![]() ![]() ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
