One sunny morning in a very quiet village .......

In my case it was at a busy central Athens metro interchange station. It was beautifully orchestrated. They picked a very crowded carriage. When the doors opened two big men blocked one and pretended they were struggling to pull it open. With large numbers of passengers, everyone was struggling to push through the one open door which was also partially blocked by the men struggling to "open" the "closed" one. The rest of the team merged with the passengers who were pushing and shoving to get off ...... and went to work. Trapped in the midst of this being pushed and buffeted from all sides I didn't feel a thing!

When I filed a report with the Athens police my interviewer just smiled a very knowing smile and said "Yes. That's how they work. They are professionals."

I would have thought Mustique was more his style.

He went there last year but contracted a very bad rash and vowed to never go back.

Very nice pictures and clips all.

Pressed for time and not quite knowing what to do, I merely cramped a few Rhinos together.

Had to stop work on this one at this point. Too many other things to do.

Thank you Michael. It was difficult to come up with anything other than the obvious so this was the best I could come up with.

Good work everyone

Sorry to hear about your nasty pocket picking experiences Dave - and yours Mariner - given how few people carry cash you wouldnt think it would be worth the risk now. Desperate times.
Anyway to lighten the mood here is an offering courtesy of the Harry Potter universe - the 10.20 to Beauxbatons will be delayed as there is an erumpent on the line!
Fortunately Newt Scamanger is on hand to sort it out - and to save me a lot of faffing about with the wire fence

Nice work ANNA

All I'm prepared to say about the next three (non-animated) entries is that they took five minutes to do. any further questioning will be met with NO COMMENT!

I am amazed how many did cut it out. Lots of fun work this week.

Re: Challenge 978: A rhino on the tracks
First to cross the tracks this week was lwc, with a rather cute elephant. The sign on the front of the train makes perfect sense! and neatly tucked behind that fence. A rather beautiful desktop entry – is that a 3D render? Surely no real desktop could be that tidy? There’s something rather sad and lonely about the night time entry; I like the subtle movement of the rhino. Have to point out, the perspective on the lamp is way out.

A new poster from Frank, which does a better job of explaining than the original. The SCNF train is perfectly sized and lit, and Wile E Coyote splatted on the front is a nice touch. A truly brilliant animated entry, with immaculate timing: the suddenness of the train starting and stopping goes perfectly with the serene soundtrack. Splendid!

Terrific work from Ben Boardman, with thundering rhinos charging along the track. The one busting through the gate is very appealing – I like all the added splinters. Lots of action here. A huge amount of reconstruction in the second entry, with a much-needed overpass. The man leaping over the fence is excellent, but it’s the people running through the corridor that really gets me. They’re clearer in the revised version. Fantastic work this week, Ben.

A charging rhino from michael sinclair, and it is indeed charging along railway tracks. Not entirely sure the two-frame track movement really works; I’d have thought shearing the layer would have been a better bet. A shame about the white fringe on the rhino. And, um… that shadow… Interesting to see the AI generated version, which does a pretty good job. The head in the second version rather gives it away.

A bit of a train wreck from tooquilos – has it fallen into a sink hole? I like all the rhino footage in the animated version, particularly the junkyard scene. In the earlier scenes it does seem to be running hard without getting anywhere fast!

A playful set of rhinos from DavidMac, building up their musculature. A good sense of movement in that train behind, and a very neatly removed fence. So sorry about your pickpocketing woes.

A vast rail wagon from Mariner, fitting perfectly onto those tracks. Fitting the train behind the fence is impressive enough, but adding the woman with her toddler is above and beyond. A very appealing image. A hugely impressive Soviet train in the second entry. These things are enormous – they have one at the Bressingham Steam Museum in Norfolk, and its scale is mind-boggling. Very nicely done.

I enjoyed Ant Snell’s Spearmint Rhino tribute, with its sleek purple train. I see the ladies are sponsored by the Daily Sport… well, that makes a sort of sense. Lap Dance Land, indeed.

Not just rhinos, but a host of heavy transport careering down the tracks in dwindt's entry… it looks rather like a reverse tug of war, with the strong man and the rhino pushing against the vehicles. Not sure how much help the plane is going to be! An appealing image.

A host of African wildlife from GKB – is that elephant on a truck? Tremendous 3D movement in the animated version – I like how the elephant bounces off the rhino. Great sounds, too. Needs a punchline!

Fantastical beasts from Josephine Harvatt, delving into the Harry Potter universe. That’s a splendid rhino-ish beastie, and a cunningly placed Scamanger who masks both the fence and the somewhat dodgy angle of the Hogwarts Express. Nice work.

Good work, everyone! A fun and imaginative week.

Thanks Steve. If I had more time I would have extended the action and titles.

Excellent work from everyone

Re: Challenge 978: A rhino on the tracks
Thanks, Steve. It was quite difficult finding something to put on those rails and making it fit. I used to work on the East-West German railway border near Helmstedt, West Germany. One of those soviet Russian trains used to turn up regularly at midnight. Yes, they are huge. And when they open the carriage doors a strong smell of cheap soap wafts out.
