SKY AT NEAR NORMAL SPEED Ben thanks for the explanation, but do remember to the "casual" observer they only aware of a selection that is too light. I was impressed by my new speed clouds adjustment that I decided to make a new entry here: ![]() ![]() |

OMG!! Tiny Tim! I'd forgotten all about him and his tulips. Mind you, I think he is probably best forgotten You've done a great job raising Mr Tiny to get around the disparate camera angles. Very nicely done. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

lovely stuff everybody. I pulled a Michael on the crowd; (who I hope is gaining health day by day) and never stuck to brief however there is such merit in this 3d scene, I couldn't stop going.....then I messed it up. i had endless trouble trying to render it. Algorithms did not enough how I had manipulated them. I have no idea why "Careless whispers" stuck in my head every time I worked on it; right from the first render I did. maybe Anna can explain? ![]() ![]() _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

Re: Challenge 980: The busking bassist
First to use the bassist this week was lwc, neatly integrating him into scene – I like the way the two on the right are looking at him. A good way to avoid having to rebuild the bottom. That extreme distance blur is rather disconcerting, though. I don’t think I’d have recognised Tiny Tim without David’s prompt. Nice hand movement! I like the way DavidMac has slotted him in next to Charlie Mingus, matching the tone perfectly. Placing that microphone in front helps to set him in the scene. Well judged. The octobass is a ridiculous instrument, and if I hadn’t followed your like I’d never have believed it was real. Still wondering if you went to the trouble of building a fake website just to fool us. Good to see how Ant Snell has put the bassist into my band – the colouring works well, you’ve captured the mood. The lens flare does a lot to help unify the scene. And a good rebuild on the trousers! I laughed out loud at tooquilos's double “bass” – gone fishing, indeed! And you’ve even added it to the reflection. There’s a lot to like in the animated version – the dripping water, the electric spark, the fish poster – but small point: the bow should go side to side, not up and down. An extraordinary scene from Ben Boardman, with our bassist completely overshadowed by that serious multi-instrumentalist next to him. Does the guy really play all those things? Four didgeridoos? Shame the image has no sound! I like the out-of-focus girl in the foreground, but (a) she needs to have feathered edges to be convincing, and (b) the woman nearer the camera should be more out of focus. The bassist slots well into the scene in the second entry, although I have to say I’ve never seen a band with two double bass players. I’m not sure about Michael Sinclair’s tendency to brighten everything up, but his shadowed version of your image does add a sense of place. Ah, there we go: much better. A hep cat from dwindt, intricately playing with its claws. Great expression and pose: a lot of thought has gone into this image. Very cute. And to add the whole band is remarkable. Excellent lighting, you’ve really captured a sense of occasion here. Good to see our bassist finally getting the attention he deserves in Frank's entry. He fits perfectly into that scene, and slotting him behind the wedge monitor avoided having to rebuild the bottom. I might make him a fraction larger, though. He slots neatly into the jamming lineup, but watch you don’t overdo the sax shadow. I greatly enjoyed michael sinclair’s surreal entry, with its pulsating shadow and running ostrich. Excellent fingerwork: there’s a real sense of plucking with the right hand. I am going to take you to task on your clouds, though. Clouds appear in perspective, and they move in perspective too. Which means that the distant (lower) clouds should move very much slower – if at all – than those which are higher up, and so closer to the camera. This is how clouds should move: Very sorry to hear about your medical woes. I hope the antibiotics kick in soon. ___ Two weeks without an entry from Mariner… Michael? Are you OK? |

Lovely entries everybody. Thank you Steve. I feel like there's something missing. Maybe stage clutter, bottle and glasses, a smoldering cigar etc. I'll have to try that. I could make for a nice print. _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

Re: Challenge 980: The busking bassist
Glad you liked the Mingus. I was sure that you would know. I was listening to "Ah Um" as I did it. (I still have the LP I bought as a very young man.)
I do love a gag but I wouldn't go that far! There's lots of stuff and pictures if you google, including the one I used. I agree, it is a ridiculous instrument ...... probably why so few of them (according to one site seven) ever got built. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

I turned the cloud layer into a Smart Object, and sheared it between keyframes. Works much better with video output rather than GIF. |

Thanks Steve- I made him the same size as the original bassist player standing there. I based that shadow on the black levels of other shadows in the image. ![]() ![]() |

Re: Challenge 980: The busking bassist
Another enjoyable challenge Steve. Does the guy really play all those things? Multi-instrumentalist Matt James does play all those instruments & often has a guest musician playing with him. Four didgeridoos? All of which have a different sound characteristic. Shame the image has no sound! You can hear at https://tribalgroove.com.au/listen/ Second entry - The bassist slots well into the scene, although I have to say I’ve never seen a band with two double bass players. That is why the woman with the cello is glaring at the bass guy also at the jam session - she thinks one is enough. Cellos can play notes from C2 - A5, giving them a range of just under five octaves. The bass can play notes from E1 - G4, which gives it a range of just over 3 octaves. |

The "blur" is in the original image I used for the background, couldn't do much about it. Thanks Steve! |
