My attempt to be humorous has gone awry. My apologies for giving the wrong impression of picking on Loyd, or indeed anyone.

The obvious: polar bears belong to the Northern Hemisphere (the Arctic to be precise), and....penguins belong to the Southern Hemisphere (the Antarctic to be precise).

Sorry you took my reply to be a criticism. It was meant to be a silly response to your post. Perhaps I should have put a at the end.

By the way, I have sent the giraffe back home to Venezuela

Bet you'll never see that rock in the same way again.

Michael; No!...
Thought the daydream image was worth a post.

Dennis that's a wonderful leap of imagination! I just love it! The tiny re-arrangement of the left wing/flipper is very subtle and works perfectly as balancing.

However, I prefer the dream. I find it much funnier.

About 20 years ago we had a holiday house on Phillip Island. As the sun goes down, hundreds (often thousands) of Little Penguins return to their beach burrows after days — sometimes even weeks — out at sea.

The moment I saw it, that was my instant reaction!

The question is why is it so obvious!?

I know you are perfectly capable of producing something just as accomplished so it's definitely not a question of "Loyd couldn't have done that himself". It's something far more subtle but I am not sure what.

Is it perhaps because it is almost too steam punk? It's almost a caricature. All the usual hackneyed overdone symbols are there: the high collar leather jacket, the brass/bronze finish, the top hat with its dials and mechanical accoutrements, the timepiece round the neck and, of course, the mandatory aviator goggles.

It's, somehow, too predictable.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

They in some way all look the same... yes, predictable and a bit odd looking. An over the top caricature is what I think of.

As usual when I am a bit stumped by a challenge I turn to silliness, as my first entry testifies.

Second entry no better ...........

Loyd I like your snow cat.

Dennis I don't understand what you mean by "Michael No" ?

Here is the first of two entries (second entry currently being completed).
entitled Slow Penguin, and not a polar bear in sight.

I prefer Slow Penguin to Quick Penguin, but both are excellent. Very convincing.

Selling ice to skimo's Ben?
No Eskimos David, Antarctica - only research stations (they make the ice blocks)

I was talking figuratively Ben .......... but who knows? Perhaps they have migrated south with Loyd's polar bear.

Re: Challenge 982: Pick up a penguin
Ben and David well-thought out entries: both of which are entertaining.

My third entry required some considerable thought.
