Well done David and Anna. Fine videos, good sound effects, tough subject. [EDIT] Whoops, I meant "Well done Gordon and Anna". Yours is fine too, David. |

Very cute and going in close does solve a lot of problems. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

When the Wonka factories were closed by the Elf and Safety police following a series of tragic accidents the oompah loompahs were forced to find alternative employment P.S. Don't talk to me about scaling!!! ![]() _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

It was either this or nothing, and at least on topic. ![]() The first image is the original material: Now comprises two-speed clouds. includes rolling wheels, and on coming loco ![]() ![]() |

David very inventive and appealing. ![]() Michael, I LOVE IT! That's a good piece of work to remove the old tree, crane, and clutter. The fire is pure inspiration ![]() |

Re: Challenge 987: Google on fire
Michael (Sinclair) I am not entirely convinced by removing the humorous 'ish from 'on topic' when you updated. The two speed clouds and oncoming train certainly improved the animation, but don't really change it's relevance. ![]() I am not sure why, but I definitely prefer your flags to the train. I like them both. Michael (Mariner) I love the extreme simplicity of yours. Even though it can't have been that simple to do. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

David, thank you. I am surprised nobody else tried to get rid of all that clutter. Job satisfaction is the reward. |

Re: Challenge 987: Google on fire
First to deal with the conflagration this week was DavidMac, with a trio of splendid gnomes. The viewing angle from above perfectly matches the angle of the scene. Excellent. A couple of questions: did you turn these gnomes into firemen or were they already? And I seem to remember earlier in the week noticing that there was no thickness to the open door. Have you added it later? The Alice in Wonderland image is spot on, although I’m wondering how her shadow relates to either of the two light sources that cast the shadow of the lamppost. There’s a lot to like in the genie image, particularly the way the trail curls around the lamppost; but also a perfectly chosen set of kids (and of course the lighting is spot on). I really enjoyed the Minions entry, with its cast of thousands and perfect perspective. What’s holding the ladder up? Well, that’s one way to put out a small fire… lwc's Dalmatian clearly has no regard for propriety. The rat animation is ingenious: using (I assume) the same running footage, you’ve managed to make it appear to be running both towards and away from the camera by varying its scale. It’s amazing how effective this technique is. The leaky pipe entry is curious: somehow that doesn’t work as water for me; more like it’s spraying caster sugar. I like the new lighting though. The thing I like most about Frank's entry is the beautifully opened hatch: it has not just thickness, but four screws holding it together. It’s details like this that really make it come alive. So that’s where they keep their chainsaw! I see GKB has been at the toy box again… a perfect set of Lego characters, and the addition of the new poster and the Lego branding on the window really makes this work well. I like the spin blur on the helicopter blades. Great 3D action in the animated version, the Lego characters being just small enough to fit through the hatch. A couple of very small points: using exactly the same flames twice looks artificial; and the thing that bothered me about the still image was the fact that Superman is head on to the camera, which is unnatural. It’s the same in the video, even more so when he takes off and flies. Is this because he’s the only one who isn’t a 3D model? Serious fire from tooquilos: I like the graphic flames on the hoarding. I really like how the tiny fire truck in the animated version puts out the graphic of the flames, and it manages to put out the whole fire – very cute! You do need to check the angle of your miniature fire station, though – follow those vanishing lines: ![]() I enjoyed Ant Snell’s squirrel firefighters: very neatly compiled, the added costumes seem to fit them perfectly (apart from the two naked ladder-wielders, that is). The smoke through the open door works well, but watch the angle of the top of the door: we should still be looking down on it. An ingenious solution from Josephine Harvatt, with Hugh Grant in a new fireman’s uniform – I like how it’s clearly a child’s costume, which fits his scale. A fun entry, but you get a detention for the Elf and Safety police. A rather clever remapping of the original posters onto the walls of michael sinclair’s goods train. Perhaps the posters should be missing on the gaps between the containers? Excellent moving clouds, and a surprisingly effective spinning wheel technique. I like the amended version with the train coming towards us, although I can’t help thinking it would have been slightly closer to being on topic if the train had been going past the original building instead of your usual desert landscape. A very effective rippling flag, and the wobble on the flagpole really helps. I think I prefer the first version to the second, as the ripples seem less chaotic. A glorious clean-up from Mariner, with expert removal of the crane. Beautifully accomplished. I like how you’ve also turned off the street lamp and brought the sun out. And that’s a very good fit for the summery tree! The flaming house on the poster is a good nod to the instructions. Good to have you back, Michael. |

Thanks Stephen. High praise indeed. No faults? Good to be back. I liked this one - it was just begging to be cleaned up. |

Re: Challenge 987: Google on fire
I found them as firemen! You can find gnome versions of the most bizarre and unexpected things nowadays! Thickness was always there I assure you. That's too basic even for me to miss! I have a very quick and simple standard method which I always use.
Me too. I struggled with it for quite a while ..... and then gave up!
Another one I struggled with! Nothing is holding it up. It's falling. Thats why the minions are left clinging to the lamp post and clinging and falling from the ladder itself. I struggled for ever with spin blur, motion blur and radial blur but none of them worked - something about the insubstantial nature of the ladder and it's pale colour produced very unsatisfactory results that looked completely fake. I left a tiny, tiny blur there but it doesn't work. Somehow it really wasn't my week this week. I really couldn't get behind things. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 987: Google on fire
Thanks Steve Unfortunately I couldn’t find a proper 3D Lego Superman so had to make do with a PixelSquid model. If I had had the time I would’ve made a Superman texture for an actual 3D Lego model. The flames? Guilty as charged.🔥🤣 _________________ If at first you don't succeed then skydiving is not for you. |
