Re: Challenge 1003: The Fiat 500
My very first car was a Fiat 126, my Father in law knew a man down the pub who was selling it and I was too young and scared to say NO! It lasted about 6 months providing I pushed it up hills so I can’t see one taking to the air but that’s what Photoshop is for.

Father in law. So apparently not too scared to propose to a girl. That puts you ahead of an awful lot of men!

I spent ages trying to figure out how to create a realistic boat wave in Cinema. In the end I gave up due lack of time so here is a still image instead.

I just discovered that, apparently, Ferrari makes speedboats!

Guilty as charged David, except for the cop the background shots are mine. Love the Ferrari.

It's a bit of a black art exporting from Photoshop to Filmora video editor, so still learning.

Re: Challenge 1003: The Fiat 500
First to take to the water this week was lwc, with an animated version of the original image. I like the fact that we can see through the windscreen, and the distant birds. There’s something about the woman’s position that looks awkward – is she too far to the right? Good reflections in the second entry, with a gently rocking and very curiously shaped car. I like the calm sea in the third entry – is that Elon Musk’s ugly new car? But that absolutely isn’t the right way to make the reflection, although I can see why you gave up it: I tried it myself and couldn’t be bothered for the amount of work it would take to get it right. The fourth entry, on the beach, is charming, but this time the woman seems to be falling out on the other side. Or is she behind the car? I very much enjoyed the fifth entry entry, with the car hovering above the waves. The wobble on the car is truly realistic. Is that how ripples on the surface would go? Rather than spreading out in circles? We need to ask Gordon about drones hovering over water.

A charming animation from GKB, whose Fiat 500 glides over the Grand Canal in Venice seemingly without touching the surface. I like the dino driver, though, and those are some splendid reflections in the remarkably shiny body. I suppose a wake would have been too tricky? “What is this song?” Carol has just commented – and it really is extremely cheesy. Matt Monroe belongs in the past. Ah – just seen your second entry, in which you complain about the difficulty in creating a convincing boat wave. I really like how you’ve done it here, with the subtle reflection of the car in the water. I do have to point out, pedant that I am, that you wouldn’t see a reflection of buildings in the side of the car, as the Grand Canal doesn’t have a row of houses capping it off at the end.

A surf-skipping Fiat from michael sinclair, neatly bobbing over the waves. It all fits together rather well, except the fact that the rear of the car is sloping down to the left suggests it should be placed above the horizon, don’t you think? The wake is simple but it works, and it does make a big difference. Incidentally, the mp4 plays automatically for me when I scroll down the page. There’s something about the second entry that reminds me of Captain Pugwash: a very cardboard cutout feel to the car. You’ve set yourself an impossible task by choosing those waves, though.

Frank has given us a serene beach scene, with the Fiat basking in the sun – and you’re the first to put wheels back onto the original car. Very convincing, especially the rear wheel arch. The number plate is a good addition. And it’s great to see those deckchair dwellers from a much earlier Challenge so neatly resurrected!

An action shot from DavidMac, with what looks like an Alfa Romeo Spider crashing through the waves. The angle, the surf and the boatsmen are spot on. Shouldn’t the sail have a reflection in the bonnet? A enjoyed seeing the photo of your Fiat 500 – eyelashes, yes, but a second pair of eyes? A truly bizarre Ferrari speedboat entry: that flying dust does work well, though, and I like the hint of the dark wake behind it. A glorious, magnificent underwater entry, with the car plunging to the ocean floor in a cascade of bubbles. Beautifully done, bringing an impossible image to life. And thank you for letting me escape.

A lot of speed in Ant Snell’s intriguing post, mostly at the rear of the flying car. I think this might be one instance when speed blur would be better left out, especially as it masks what looks like an extremely elegant conversion of the original car. A perfectly chosen background, though, a close match to the one in the original. David is right, though – not too scared to propose! But fathers in law can be fearsome beasts, hard to argue with. Best avoided, in my experience.

I enjoyed Ben Boardman’s entry, with a Fiat from a remarkably similar angle to the original being driven through the Italian streets. The policeman fits well, although he does seem a little low to me: his waist should surely be higher than the top of the car door. Is that Sophia Loren in the passenger seat? A fun entry.

Thanks Steve. The Matt Monroe song was the opening music of ‘The Italian Job’. Cheesy? Yup!

Re: Challenge 1003: The Fiat 500
Thank you Steve. It is the original image with the lower 1/2 replaced with wheels etc. Yes it is Sophia. I could claim short policeman but I suspect you are correct - he is too low. Enjoyed that one Steve.

Yes, that was my intent... note her left arm and hand is behind the perforated head rest.

Yes, Musk's cybertruck, and the reflection was a real pain. I kept coming up with 40+ MB animations and had to cut back somewhere.

Thanks Steve!

I said was going to miss out on last week because of lots of boring but necessary stuff to do. I discovered that lots of boring stuff makes the challenge a very welcome distraction!

Oh dear me yes! A typical D Mac mistake. Photoshop tunnel vision. I get so caught up in one aspect that another glaringly obvious one gets completely overlooked.

All three were unusual and fun to do. Thanks Steve.
