Last minute idea. Rather wish I hadn't thought of it. Lot more work than I expected, the book cover especially - (Worth a little zoom right in). Far too much work for a silly giggle. Ran out of time so parts are rushed. ![]() If you fancy translating .............. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Nice work everybody. Been absent for awhile - I had a heart attack and surgery (TAVI ) a long story, and had to have wife admitted to nursing home as I can't look after her. A little work on Friday Challenge helped to get my mind off of all this. Sorry Steve all ideas taken so I had to lock you up. I do have a heart though with a new aortic valve. ![]() |

Frank, my deepest sympathy to you and to your wife in these troubled times. I too have found that the Friday Challenge helps distract the mind from unpleasant thoghts. |

Thanks David. I have poor eyesight these days so I had trouble reading your hieroglypics translator. Just above the gates of my third entry I also wrote some hieroglyphics. Here is a translation I found on the web: ![]() |

Re: Challenge 1056: The Egyptian jail
First to go to jail this week was Ben Boardman, with an adept political statement. I certainly applaud the sentiment. Great use of the company logos in the trash! And a very neatly closed gate. More politics, this from dwindt: a raging Netanuyahu busting out of the cage. Nicely done. I particularly like the soldier replacing the original guard. Politics again… and this time it’s michael sinclair with a somewhat unsubtle image, but it does get the point across. Not sure it’s in the best of taste, but there you go. A view of the temple from GKB, who has moved the exit to the entrance – and why not. I like all the added Egyptian artefacts, and of course perfect typography on the sign. I like the fact that the tourists in DavidMac's entry are posing in front of a photo of the temple – presumably they can’t be bothered to actually go inside. As ever you’re too hard on yourself, David: your lack of inspiration aside, it’s a very accomplished image. I can’t believe you’ve had the patience to reproduce the HotChiPs cover using tiny mummies - such dedication! Looks like I’ve got a stack of unsold copies, with precious few takers. I need to boost my sales technique. A different take on Jurassic Park from tooquilos, with at least a benign herbivore behind the open gates. I like the fact that you’ve used video people in the animated version, and those gates do slide open and closed very neatly. Perhaps a clang needed as they shut? An electrified gate from lwc, all the better to keep the baddies inside. The hieroglyphics and jackals are a nice touch. I’ve never seen Prisoners, but this bunch does look best kept behind bars. I like the animation on the Fifth Element aliens, and the extra out-of-focus bars in the foreground give a lot of added depth. The Time Machine was a glorious movie, and this pulsating Morlocks are cute. Great flickering lighting on the Eloi girl. Not sure what to make of the Star Wars entry – are those very short stormtroopers? A glorious escaped mummy from Mariner, presumably having just climbed out of his tomb. The real joy here is the gate fallen across the guard – what a good idea! A clever use of perspective on the Egyptian columns entry, with very fine lighting. An unprecedented third entry, with a splendid view from inside one of the tombs: excellent perspective on the objects, a great view through the gate, and I really like how you’ve moved the guard to the other side. Inspired. I’m not sure what Turkish barbers have to do with either Egypt or passport control, but Ant Snell’s entertaining entry does win the prize for the most barbers ever seen in a Friday Challenge. And it’s a fair point, there are an awful lot of them about these days. I seem to have got myself banged up in Frank’s entry. I do like the shadow of the bars on my clothing, artfully bend over the contours. Why is the Beware sign translucent, though? So sorry to hear about Mrs Frank, but glad your heart has had its upgrade. What a lot you’ve had to contend with. Glad the Friday Challenge can provide some distraction. |

Thanks David. I have poor eyesight these days so I had trouble reading your hieroglypics translator. Just above the gates of my third entry I also wrote some hieroglyphics. Hi Michael. I missed your first mummy entry so my comments were miss counted. The entry I found so exceptional was the last. Beautiful. I missed the discreet inscription over the door. Had to zoom in. There are many "translators" available for hieroglyphics and all have tiny differences. Yours is slightly different from mine. I put mine there as a joke, as in my image it's obvious what my hieroglyphics say without extra help. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1056: The Egyptian jail
It comes from Vegas where, for a fee, you can take a selfie with a 'chorus girl'. Along with the almost inevitable human statue performer sitting in mid air (who they think they fool?) it seemed to sum up tourist cheesiness.
The book cover was surprisingly challenging but I learned quite bit doing it. Yes. Not your best day for sales. The entry started with the book idea but by the time I had done it I was running out of time so the table was bashed out in a tremendous hurry without time to do something more interesting with books than quickly tiling them. Thanks Steve. Another one that took me time to find a "hook". _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

The troopers are just as I found them, I fiddled with the eye-line a bit and found that I would have to separate them and rebuild the shorter of the two... obviously I was too lazy, so one is shorter than the other. Thanks Steve! |
