Shylock and Sweeney Todd found an excellent business model working together.

Re: Challenge 1069 Kill Steve?
I tried twice to post this here as a new topic but it just disappears. I suspect that only Steve can post new topics in this section. So I am posting here as it seems to be the only option. Hopefully Steve can move it to a fresh topic ..... assuming he isn't too offended once he has read it!

Not being a fan of shoot'em, kill'em zombie games and other violent games, today I did an AppStore search for "non violent ipad games". Maybe I should have hyphenated "non-violent" because the result completely ignored the "non" and produced a veritable catalogue of gamer violence!

Amongst them my attention was caught by these. They are one hundred percent genuine AppStore games! I would draw your particular attention to the highlighted text.

The question I am sure you are all now asking yourselves is might we be looking at the most ungrateful, tasteless (and hopefully humorous) challenge in HTCP's long history?

I was offering up this very questionable idea for consideration Loyd!

I take it we have your opinion on the matter .............

Sorry Steve. I think it best you should move my bad influence to a new thread.

Entering a weekly challenge is relatively easy, thinking of a new one each week seems more difficult to me.

Much more difficult!

Re: Challenge 1069: Medieval banking
First to draw cash this week was GKB, with a Shakespearean reference. I like the pose of the characters. Is that a very small child? Her head does seem tiny. A tasty array of pies in the Sweeney Todd entry, although he was a barber rather than a banker.

A great barrow of cash from Ben Boardman, with the money changer neatly posed at his desk. The dog is a nice touch, nestling in the shade. I see I make a guest appearance in the wine version, with its innovative jar container. And the dog has moved into the sun!

I enjoyed lwc's cash dispenser, spewing coins onto the ground, as well as the pair carrying the pot of money. Nice animation. The photoshop.london characters queue up well – and that’s a very Matrix-style display on the screen. Some fine destruction in the Robin Hood entry, with its scattered coins, and – another dog? What’s with all the dogs this week? And now we get a donkey, with an intricate mechanism dispensing cash. Very neat. And your response to David’s iPad game is… extreme!

A glorious water-powered barter machine from DavidMac, complete with moving belt and warning to young children. Personally, I’d have flipped the woman on the left so she was facing the other characters. I like the dog – same position as Ben’s! The out of order machine certainly resonates, and works well in all that rain. What is “deulce”? The medieval fruit machine is entertaining – I like the array of controls. What is the man on the right staring up at? The retro iPad games remind me of Castle Wolfenstein… what can I have done to deserve such punishment? Some entertaining images here.

A piggy bank! Of course, tooquilos saw this right away. Is it about to be cracked open? I like the subtle axe swinging in the animated version, and that topless mugger is a great animation. Excellent.

It’s the Flintstones for Ant Snell, with a brilliant octopus dispenser counting the cash on his abacus. Glorious. I do seem to he a rather peculiar shape, but I suppose Fred Flintstone was.

A glorious scene from Mariner, with mainly medieval children at their picnic table. Good attempt to match the dappled shade, and a very fine cast of characters. Is the bank teller secretly in love with the dishy bloke on the left?

And you’re right, David and Loyd, thinking up new Challenges each week isn’t that easy. But far easier than when the Forum started over ten years ago, when I didn’t have a good camera in my pocket.

Steve - I see I make a guest appearance in the wine version, with its innovative jar container.

I forgot to credit the designer of the jar - the first known coin-operated vending machine. It was designed by the brilliant Greek engineer and mathematician Hero of Alexandria in the 1st century AD. This remarkable invention, created to dispense holy water in temples, stands as a testament to the ingenuity of ancient Greek engineering and its influence on modern technology.

No, Steve. He is her divorced husband and he is trying to annoy her.

Thanks for this challenge Steve, It was difficult and time-consuming. I like that.

Personally you would have been quite right! It was so obvious I actually just tried it to see if there was a reason I hadn't done it. The improvement was quite astonishing. It pulls the whole image together to a degree I would never have expected.

What is “deulce”?

It is how that particular 'period' typeface renders the letter V. I think V and U were often indistinguishable in medieval script, but it was more common for U to look like V than the other way round. I agree it is odd.

What is the man on the right staring up at?

Um ......... er ......... pass .........

Maybe I'll think of something later.

I really enjoyed this one thanks.

BTW out of curiosity I downloaded Kill Steve (it's free). It turns out to be the dullest, most pointless, crass, lacklustre, boring game I have ever come across!

Re: Challenge 1069: Medieval banking
Thanks Steve.

As a barber Sweeney Todd killed his customers with a cut-throat razor and then gave the bodies to Mrs Lovett who then baked the meat pies.

All were fun, especially the donkey... sorry about the iPad gag, it was David's fault. Thanks Steve!
