Re: Challenge 1087: Don't leave Harold hanging
First to dangle from the clock this week was Ant Snell, with a splendid reworking of a Dali classic. The added Chaplin on roller skates is great, but whose head is that where Lloyd’s used to be? A great idea, really well executed. The rope ladder Nick Curtain has added works well, as does the huge face of Big Ben (yes, pedants, I know) behind him. Does he perhaps need to cast a slight shadow to tie him to the clock face? Time flies, according to Frank: a truly glorious vision with Lloyd attached to the parachute. I’m not sure the falling clock adds that much here, and does somewhat distract from the purity of the scene. Small point: it would be worth tinting both Lloyd and the parachute blue-green to match the background. I enjoyed GKB's tiny Lloyd in an ornate clock, with classic movie scenes on the walls. I like the refraction through the glass dome. Whoever papered that wall, though, should be told that you never put a join in a corner. I was hugely impressed by DavidMac's reconstructed behind-the-scenes image, which makes perfect sense – and I’m sure that’s exactly how it was done. An imaginative and expertly realised image. And yes, sorry about the terylene suit. It really is awful. I’m guessing lwc's clock is in Switzerland, appropriately enough. And is that a giant cuckoo peering out of the top window? Curiouser and curiouser. Interesting how Harold Lloyd’s body still works even when the thing he’s dangling from is rotated so much. The billboard hanging is nicely done, but of all the films you could have chosen why pick Clockwork Orange? I’m viewing this on my laptop, so was highly amused when I scrolled down tooquilos's vertical entry to see Lloyd dangling and sparking from the tower. Very cute! I like the drop from the bridge in the animated entry, as well as all the other dangerous locations in which he appears. And great choice of soundtrack! A complex rebuild from Mariner, with perfect matching of the brickwork style – and the view beyond matches the perspective perfectly. I like the Way Out sign on the window (but watch the angle of OUT). Not sure about the steps; and it would be worth adding a Black & White adjustment layer at the top level to even out the sepia tone that’s creeping into the left hand side. |

Thanks Steve. I knew you wouldn't miss the Way Out sign. Well spotted. I know I left a little colour in the picture, but it was late and it seemed like a good idea at the time. |

Thanks Steve. I was in two minds about adding a shadow. Having tried to give the impression that he was some way from the face following rescue, by adding blur to the clock, I decided that it may look strange given the vast area of ambient lighting available. On reflection I perhaps should have brought him forward and therefore larger in the scene. |

Thanks for all the feedback each week, Steve. I was a bit concerned that the head transplant would be unrecognisable; it is, in fact, Salvador Dali himself (with a somewhat shorter moustache than normal, maybe I should have painted a longer one in), with Harold Lloyd looking on, disappearing from under the tree. |

Germany's famous life-size cuckoo clocks are found in the Black Forest, with the most prominent being in Schonach, holding the Guinness World Record as the largest, featuring a 13-foot-long cuckoo and a mechanism visitors can walk inside. Clockwork Orange only because of the vague reference to a clock. Just a weird mind wander. You might have liked this one that I didn't enter. Instead of Back to the Future, I was going with 'Back to the Clock Tower'.
Thanks! |

My image was made from a number of descriptions found on the web. It also makes perfect sense. I've done similar myself in the past. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
