Re: Challenge 1090: Messerschmitt
This seems suddenly to have turned into a 'Who are you going to put in there?' contest. Lots of fun suggestions.

I do like Ben's take on the early Spielberg "Duel" (Its better undistorted .... looks bigger and more menacing.)

I am also with the 'put somebody in there' entries. There was something appealingly retro about this little fellow so I've gone that route. Couldn't make up my mind which one I liked so I'll leave it to judge and jury to decide.

Here's a serious Messerbug. Beefed up enough for Loyd to try out on the track.

Should have added some drag wheels there cause this buggy is sure to flip.

In the first entry, I played around with Nano Banana and changed the perspective of the car, but I didn't feel entirely satisfied, so I did a second entry using the original perspective.

Fabulous entries everyone.

David, I love the fret work around the side of the car in the black and white version. It's perfect.

The original Flash Gordon was full of Art Deco styling so I thought it would be fun to pick up on the curves of the Chrysler building in the photos which is, itself, a Deco classic.

The tumble weed is perfect. One reviewer wrote of Melania; "So awful you would walk out even if it was an 'in flight' movie".

Two very clean re-locations this week Michael. Is the odd roof mounted rear view mirror in the background photo yours or real? I can’t believe you would see much in it beyond your own roof.

It's real, David. I didn't understand it either.

Re: Challenge 1090: Messerschmitt
First to take to the road this week was dwindt, with a perfectly-realised plane conversion: the angles and perspective are exactly right. Is the pilot holding a lance??? The Messerbug is a glorious mod. I like the detail of the roll bar and the new wheels. And very good to see it out on the track, although shouldn’t those wheels be spinning?

I expected exactly this from GKB: the Messerschmitt taking to the skies half-converted into another Messerschmitt. And a very fine conversion it is too. I like the detail of the opened canopy, and the decals on the door. Very fine. The Back to the Future entry is fun – glad to see you’ve got so many elements from the film in there.

I enjoyed Ant Snell’s Jetsons entry, with its glowing green headlights and surprisingly farty exhaust. The translucent roof works really well. And those are neatly removed wheels.

A country house setting from Nick Curtain, correctly placed right in the foreground to make sense of the extreme perspective. And yes, that transparent roof is tricky. Perhaps a driver would help distract the eye?

A fine batmobile from lwc, with a suitability startled Robin inside. And an appropriately scaled-down Batcave entrance behind it. Something about the thing on the roof bothers me, can’t quite work out what. I like the Harry and Megan beach shot. Good lighting on this one. I did laugh at Jabba the Hutt, partly because of the way he’s squeezed in there. Splendid! My favourite. I’d expect the Mad Max car to be a bit more souped-up, maybe some spikes and armour plating? Good treatment of the glass roof, by the way.

Scary trucking from Ben Boardman, in an entry that certainly highlights the scale issue. A great shot of the truck there, fun of menace – reminds me of Spielberg’s Duel. And that’s a very 1970s dude at the wheel. Actually, I prefer the original distorted truck to the fixed version – seems to have more menace. The racetrack entry is very nicely put together, with perfect shadows and the smoke from the wheels. Either that’s a different Messerschmitt or you’ve done something very clever with the perspective. Why is the final R backwards on the number plate?

It’s Flash Gordon time for DavidMac, with a beautifully modified Messerschmitt: the changes to the headlights, and the chrome work on the side, are excellent. I think I prefer the first version to the daytime entry, partly because flying alongside the Chrysler building is somehow more dramatic than flying above it.

A new paint job from Mariner, with a rather neat picnic basket on the luggage rack. It looks good in red. That hubcap could do with a polish, though. And – why Arras? A beautiful town. I like its two squares joined at the corners. The car show works well, but there is a scale issue here: with the car so much nearer the camera than the people, it needs to be a log bigger or they’d never fit inside it.

A wonderfully evocative entry from tooquilos, with Melanoma standing forlorn and alone outside the deserted cinema – and that’s hubby (plus Oscar) waiting outside. I really like the sense of loneliness here, and the very restrained use of scale. Is the phallic cinema logo over the canopy original? The Trump lion (and cat noise) in the animated version are terrific. And that rolling tumbleweed and wind say it all. Interesting jet action in the last segment, which works better as a still image so you can see all the detail.

Re: Challenge 1090: Messerschmitt
Thanks Steve
For the roof, I made and saved a selection and filled with 50% grey with soft light blending followed by some dodging. The trees are too prominent, so is there a better way of doing this?

My absence from PS is showing badly, as I didn't realise there is now a Remove Tool. Once discovered and following a few videos, this helped speed up the car reconstruction, but I struggled with the front wheel. I'll get there, hopefully!

Steve thanks.
"Why Arras?". Because it has a huge square which frames the car nicely.
Scale? Yes, it was a problem in both pictures. I have had a busy week so I didn't put in as much time as I usually do.

Re: Challenge 1090: Messerschmitt
Thanks Steve.

It wasn’t easy to find a suitable image of the Hill Valley courthouse. I eventually found an image of someone’s 3D model but with no texture and not a great perspective. No suitable 3D model could actually be found so I used the image you see and added in the brickwork. As it was all going to be darkened down I reckoned it would work.
