Re: Contest 10: Open the door
I worked with the bench for a while and didn't like anything I did so.... Do you use a grid of any kind? I continue to struggle with the freeform tool when it comes to perspective. ( by the way I have your book 2nd edition) Great stuff! |

Re: Contest 10: Open the door
It sems like the next edition of HTCIPS should definitely look at perspective more closely. Looks like that would help many people out. I didn't think that Dr. Who comment would have caused such an uproar. Must have been a real part of the culture, huh? Was there a cult following or anything like that? You know, guys dressing in tin foil and impersonating Daleks. Stuff like that. raymardo _________________ Sometimes you have to stand in your neighbor's backyard to get a good view of your own. raymardo |

There still is a massive cult following. This is the BBC's website. _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Re: Contest 10: Open the door
The sounds of "Exterminate exterminate!" rang from every household everytime the Darleks featured in Dr Who - kids running around with Dad's sink plunger - them was the days - hahaha There is a very big cult following and people are happy about the return of Dr Who as a TV series and that the Darleks are including in the new series. |

Sorry Maiden, I'm going to rant....Daleks, they're DALEKS! Anagram of Kaleds, the race that were mutated in the war on Skaro and created the environment suits (the Dalek shell). ..rant over ![]() _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Re: Contest 10: Open the door
Maybe some new threads need to be made on these forums - 1) Animation- It's taking over ARGHHHHHHHHH.......!!!! 2) Dr Who!! (????)... no offence but it is a distinct character trait of a "GEEK" to still be obsessed with Dr Who past your 13th Birthday. Sorry Trinity but its now official. ![]() And before you strike me down with a torrent of abuse. I still remember hiding behind the sofa when the Cybermen came on screen, and cried when Tom Baker was replaced... hey I even had the scarf! |

Tabitha, the animation just really followed on from the conversation regarding daleks (correct spelling) not sure if it could have been included in a different thread. |

Residual memories Tabby, I don't own a single episode and I'm glad you used Geek, as opposed to Nerd, I would have had to have slapped you down ![]() _________________ It must be Thursday, I never could get the hang of Thursdays |

Maiden - I really meant it in an ironic sense. Even though I think an Animation thread would be a good idea as it seems to be mentioned more and more recently. Trinity - Its good to see that even for a geek, you still have a SOH ![]() |

Re: Contest 10: Open the door
Haha you even changed the entire perspective of the room. That did take me more than a few looks. BTW Tabitha, sorry I didn't mention it early your Narnia pic is excellent. |

Re: Contest 10: Open the door
Well, what a great Challenge that turned out to be! Plenty of top quality entries, some great approaches to the perspective problem, and more originality than I could have hoped for. Maiden, you were first out of the starting gate with a classically good entry, even if it was a little subdued by your standards. (Great detailing - the shadow, and the lock plate especially!) But you certainly made up for that later, with your multimedia extravaganza! The Haunted House theme was a real cracker! Another good stab from Russ, and although the perspective in the kitchen isn't exactly right it's pretty close. Those worktops are subsiding on the left: look at the angle of the lamp table top, and you'll see how it should have been. many great touches there, though - good to see your pink lampshade and boiled egg coming back, and I really must get around to glazing that door one of these days. Raymardo, you managed to combine a great opening with following the sideline thread in this contest - great imaginative stuff there. Did you make that jacket out of a shirt? love the shower, the soap on the guy's head, even down to the puddle of water he's stepping in. Excellent job! Bit of a mind-reading exercise from Trinity there - I've had this thing about Daleks since I was about 6 years old. Really nicely tucked in the doorway there. Anyone notice the reflection of the lamp in the Dalek's side? It's touches like this that really make the difference. It's the same with Droo31k's entry: again, a classical approach - and then you notice the extras, like the reflection of the door in the varnished floorboards. Perfect! Good to have you back here. MJ, welcome to the forum. You opened the door well, but hey! What's going on with the perspective there? Much as I'd love to have a fully stocked sauna in my house, I can't cope with that much subsidence! And shouldn't the door have some thickness to it? There's a book I could recommend that explains how to go about it... Tabitha, your imagination is running away with you again. But the snow on the ground is a really great way of covering the join: by bringing in elements from the outside scene indoors, you've linked the two improbable worlds together in a really convincing manner. Nice approach. I know we've never had an outright winnner here before, but Tweaknik's entry makes me want to change the rules. If you haven't already, go to the full size version to see all the glorious detail. This is a really stunning entry. Apart from turning the whole room around (no mean feat in itself!) he's also distorted that door to lie flat on the floor. And look at all that detail! The raised doorknob, the lock on the side, the broken hinges both on the door and the door frame, the chips of wood on the floor - even a reflection of the door frame in the door itself (now that's subtlety!). And, to cap it all, a great gag: for those of you who still haven't figured out the title, and who may be wondering why there's an art gallery outside the room: that's Munch's Scream tucked behind the bookcase. Stunning work, Tweaknik, I'm proud of you. |

Nice approach! Top marks for ingenuity. But read Blending 1: Fire Power - there are better ways of treating that fireball. |
