Re: Contest 81: Nightclub atmosphere
What a versatile lady is Taya. I'm afraid Dalton has lost his fortune as her tour manager! But think of the media tie-ins. Singer, snake charmer and financial wizard to name but a few. A brilliant and fun set of pictures. Ted |

Re: Contest 81: Nightclub atmosphere
With so many entries in the forum these days, I thought it would be a good idea to make it easier for everyone to see the images I'm discussing here. So now, every time someone's name is mentioned in bold blue you can click it to open their image in a new window. Apologies if I've got any links wrong! A thoroughly consistent montage from stefan this week, with lighting and colouring that really ties the figure in with the background. A good, blurry scene, with that lens flare just peeking over the top of her head - excellent. But with that much light behind her, shouldn't she have slightly more of a hazy, translucent edge? There's a very different feel to Rs' entry: again, the figure has been toned down a lot to match the background. The black wall is a suitable backdrop, but I find the sign painted on it a little awkward. It's very bright - brighter than either the wall or the singer - and doesn't seem to fit tonally. Knock it back a lot! Oh, and a spotlight might help here, too. A hugely ambitious entry from Paul 2005 (shouldn't you have updated that name by now?) with a fantastic body rebuild. Tucking the microphone hand behind that other mike stand fixes her firmly within the image, and the extra hand added behind it is a great touch. Lighting, spotlight glare, shading - absolutely right. Fantastic! A completely different approach from mr.pbody, whose singer has now made it onto the billboards of downtown Tokyo. I can count six instances of her in the scene - and a great concert background behind her, too. Perfect perspectives, and a really fresh idea. Good job, Mr P. There's more on the oriental theme with G E Sutton's entry. Love the way everyone else is glaring at her! Their expressions - and the placement of the singer - are just perfect. my only (very slight) problem is with her face, which looks more like a plastic mask than paint. just a touch too bright and textureless, perhaps? But otherwise, a very entertaining image. Sure, Pauline, we've heard of Lonestar! And it's great to see our singer joining in, with subtle colouring on the face and sunglasses. I like the way you've extended her arm off the bottom of the page, but i'm a little disturbed by the fact that she seems to have been sawn in half by the previous act. That's what comes of having magicians as a warm-up, I suppose. Sticking her in a barrel is one solution! We always get a different approach from Tom, whose graphic style brings a new dimension to photomontage. I really like the yellow outline and the overall treatment of the singer and the background - some great texture effects going on there. Very disturbed about the fact that she's about to swallow something that could cause an awful lot of internal bleeding, though. Is this a form of Hara Kiri we hadn't come across before? Taya, eh? Well, if DaltonX hadn't given her a name, I suppose someone else would. A lively, fun packed image, with plenty going on. Great typography, with a good glow effect: and I like the inclusion of the two logos, a good sense of detail there. But it looks like someone's been let loose with a can of that spray string - damn, that stuff really sticks to skin. If those are light beams, shouldn't they radiate in thickness as well as direction? A wonderful take on the image from Eggbox, although she doesn't look like she's enjoying her ice cream very much. Perhaps she shouldn't have just eaten the Raspberry Ripple - it's left her tongue looking rather blue. Good to see her wearing something other than black, though! There's a fantastic crowd scene in kenney's entry - inspired by the iPod ads, no doubt. Are those people all drawn, or did you darken silhouette photographs? Either way, it's a really strong, graphic approach, and one which does the job perfectly. Great lighting: but, as stefan showed us earlier, you need to bring those lens flares over the top of the figure - particularly that flare next to her hand. Although the light is behind her, the flare is a camera creation that would in reality appear in front of everything. A fine protest march from pixelmonkey, with great added features - the hat, the badge, the wristband - and I like the way the hand has been bent up to make her hold the megaphone to her mouth. Good tonal matching of all those posters in the crowd, too, and that No Iraq War sticker wraps perfectly around the megaphone. Great work! Things are certainly getting scary in jwhite's image, with some subtle touches - like the tattoo on her arm. A couple of small points here: the spiked collar should be more hidden where it disappears into her hair at the back, and the angle of her fingers is a little awkward where it holds the snake. One solution would have been to cut the snake in two, and bend it through her hand so it was held at a more realistic angle. Great teeth, though! And such scary eyes! I'd never thought of her has having an afro, but Dek_101 has given her one that looks just right/ A very consistent, well contained image, with a good sense of composition. And to answer your question: yes, setting the background colour to the same as the forum is one solution, but because the forum posts automatically alternate their background colours there could be a timing issue this way. Another solution would be to save the image as a PNG file, which can have built-in transparency in a way that JPEGs can't. I think a large part of the skill in Born2Run's excellent entry lay in removing the top half of the original seated figure - which has been done perfectly. A great image, and the hat is an excellent addition! My only tiny quibble is that she's a little more yellow than the other guys in the band; but, really, this is such a good piece of work it's pointless to mention it. Must be the only Japanese C&W singer in existence! Moving the singer's sunglasses, as Whaler has done, must have been a tricky task - but what a good job it is. I find the highlights perhaps a little over-enthusiastic, though - and I am concerned that her silicone implants seem to be overheating. Are they still under guarantee? Well, there she is, singing her heart out in mguyer's entry - but the enthusiastic crowd seem to be appreciating someone behind her. It's a tricky one, this: but their attention does seem to draw us out of the frame. Good lighting on the singer, though! What a strange mixture of musical styles Neal has given us! It's brought the singer out in a nasty pink rash, too. (Memo to self: must refrain from posting potentially embarrassing pictures of myself on this forum.) I think Neal's second entry sums the situation up perfectly! Wow! Words fail me when it comes to describing Glen's stunning entry. Well, nearly. What a fantastic piece of work! And there's Marty prepping up in the background, too. I know it's awkward when you get spaghetti stuck in your teeth, but I'd never thought of surgery as the solution! (And for the sake of elucidation: the Harold Shipman that Maiden referred to was a doctor in the UK who, a couple of years ago, took to knocking off his patients after having persuaded them to change their wills in his favour.) So we've got Quentin Tarantino, Lara Croft and Taya all rolled into one - a lovely job from chris, with a perfect moody backdrop and some great flying bills. And I'm sure I recognize that gun flare from somewhere. One or two technical points to do with the shape and shading of the bills, but all in all this is such an entertaining entry it's certainly worth a title. I think Photo Parodist best sums up your contribution here! Excellent work this week. Well done, everyone! |

I am mortified!! I couldn't figure out what you were talking about with my singer being cut in half. Looked again at my image and realized that I never finished her!! Her shirt was black, my background was black and on MY computer she blended right in. I cropped for the Lonestar picture and completely missed finishing her! A terrible oversite but something I will be more careful of since on other's monitors it is probably more noticable! I love the new way you have presented the critique. I know it's extra work for you to do this but it's appreciated. I can have both the comments and entries side by side. Now, it's off to fix my poor girl's body! ![]() _________________ Pauline |

I think Photo Parodist best sums up your contribution here! Steve actuallt the gun flare I created from scratch. I couldn't find a appropriate fire work so just drew it and then applied a lot of the liquify filter. As for the bills I thought there was something a bit wrong but wasn't sure what? any chance you might like to elaborate on whats not quite right? |

Shame I couldn't start the poster i promised, my animation homework took a little too long! ![]() BTW Steve, loving what you did there putting links to each persons pics, it does help save time not having to scroll up. Maiden: tbh i also thought it was Harold Shipman, maybe we should get Martin over here to be on a Look-A-Like show! Not the best person to look like for obvious reasons though! ![]() _________________ 3 Radio Visit http://www.3-radio.co.uk and listen! You will love it! |

Re: Contest 81: Nightclub atmosphere
I found some pics of Angelina Jolie lookalikes on google complete in Lara Croft get up and simply extracted the legs and hips from there. Then it was just a case of building Taya's midrift complete with twists (dodge and burn) in the front of her top to make it look as if she was bending and twisting her torso. |
