Nick. I like the caterpillar idea, wouldn’t there be light passing through the holes?

Trust me to go and make an animated banner - hopefully it's optimised small enough not to cause loading delays but I think 70k is pretty reasonable thesedays

As I don't have the Myriad Pro-Black font used for the logo so I had to improvise for the "With Steve Caplin" text cut & paste or "Pootling" as it's known on b3ta.

Thanks for the comments Josephine, James, Clement & Stefan.

James - I duplicated the leaf and placed it below the eaten leaf. It was then darkened and taken out of focus to hopefully give the impression of thick foliage. The shadow at the end shows the direction of light, so I'm not sure how much light would be passing directly from above. Perhaps I've misjudged it?

Re: Contest 237: Build me a banner
Nick,

I have no problems. I think you have already considered some light would go through your created apertures and fall on the leaf below and would be visible again from above, partially. Gets a bit complex, especially when need to consider size of light source, which you have done! Maybe it should be + 30% lighter and more diffused?

Great work

Trevor

Thanks all. I have a warm feeling now, a bit like the ReadyBrek kid in the advert.

I had to lower the size and quality quite a lot.

Re: Contest 237: Build me a banner
I have to say there are some astonishingly good entries this week, a really wide gamut of talents on display and everyone superb and unique.

Vibeke, I love your colourful animation nicely optimised too - there are some white artifacts that remain after the word 'Cheat' disappears I suspect that you have chosen to use White as your Transparency Matte Colour - You could change it to "None" but that might make the edges of the text jagged and ugly so the better option would be to use the Forum's Background colour as your transparancy matte which is #D1DEEC - although whilst displayed in the Thread it may not match as the background colour is rotated between #EEE5F7 and #D1DEEC it will display on the main background prefectly. I hope that's helpful.
