Re: Challenge 279: Landlord needed
Well, I thought I wouldn't do snow, as there have been so many good ones this week; and also how often does it snow here! Hah, proved wrong on that today. Trevor that is great. James, I love the way the bloke puts his hand on the bollard - where do you get all your images from? This pub is obviously doomed to failure, again. ![]() |

Laddition, Llew, thank you for your comments. Deborah, most of my images are curtsey of Google (they usually get manipulated) I like the brassy lamps, and the windows are great. |

Wonderful renditions of pub life in various forms from all of you. Trevor, I saw you great version with its fairground decor, fantastic. Debbie, well done with the interior lighting, the TV and the frosted glass effects and all the right looking light/shade on the pavement. Sadly too late to make an attempt this week. Excellent challenge Steve. |

Re: Challenge 279: Landlord needed
First to reopen the pub this week was Josephine Harvatt, with a superb Victorian entry - complete with fine drifting snow, and Sherlock Holmes walking past. A great glow from the inside, and some beautiful glass, as well as very fine lettering. Just one thing: the bottom edge of the wall is rather harsh: all that drifting snow should soften it up a little. A grand reopening is due from vibeke, with curtains in the windows (nice touch) and a good piece of frosted glass in the door. I like all the posters, and the hanging baskets are a great touch: good to see they're selling hot chips as well! Its the reflections that really give Nick Curtain's windows character - they really come to life. The glimpse through the door is enticing and attractive, and I like the partly-lit sign over the door. Great drifting snow, too. I like the twinkly lights - but their reflection needs to be uch more toned down, I think. Magnificent stained glass from tooquilos, in her thoroughly Coke-themed pub - though I'm sorry to see refurbishing meant losing the upper floors. And a great makeover for Santa in the animated version - but who is the camp Carson? His reputation hasn't stretched to England! Interesting stuff on Coke and Santa, by the way. A rather exciting scene from laddition, with a fantastic interior and driving rain. The reflections in the wet pavement are especially good, and I like the new black and white colour scheme. The perspective on the doors is a little strong: the door opening inwards is especially steep. A moving scene from brewell, whose plaintive match girl looks suitably chilly. The scene inside is not what I'd expect in a typical pub, though - looks more like the setting for a costumed porn movie! Fantastic snow, though, especially the stuff lying on the ground. The old pub makes a fine saloon in Gerard's entry - and I like the sepia tint, and the classic framing. The sign over the top and the reflections all work well. My only slight problem is with the people on the interior: what are they standing on? They seem to be several feet above ground level! Outstanding work from Luka - a beautifully lit interior that matches the view of the room, excellent snow (I like the fact that it's been cleared around the doorway), terrific lighting. This really looks like a welcoming venue - shame it appears to have no customers! A great scene, Luka. Very good work. Santa, Sarkozy and Cinderella combine in gaoxiguo's entry - the pub seems to have suffered, with a broken window as well. I wouldn't go near that door - the snow at the top looks like it's all about to collapse! Tasteful decor from katew, with a good selection of passers-by and excellent reflections in the windows. Just a few intriguing glimpses of the interior through the frosted glass, making this a really good scene. And that's a great name for a pub! A completely remodelled frontage from LonnieK , with a highly stylized view: I really like the graphic quality of the pub customers, who combine with the reflections to make a really intriguing and compelling entry. Great snow, too, and I love the footsteps going to the door. Beautiful remodelling from James, with excellent interior, curtains and reflection - and the animation of the people is just perfect. Fantastic detail, such as the reflection of the taxi and the opening doors. The only thing I'm nut sure about is the choice of font for the sign - I've never seen a pub lettered in Stencil! A glorious piece of fin de siècle fantasy from Jota120, with an extraordinarily decorated pub. A great interior, although the people seem a little too big for the scene. The people in the right hand window are some way off the ground - and you need to copy some of the ceiling from the other interior into here as well! Truly beautiful work from Deborah Morley, whose interior matches the perspective of the scene - and the way it's glimpsed through the etched glass adds tremendously to the effect. Fantastic lettering and lighting, and a wealth of detail here - the light glows on the ground outside, the ghastly detuned TV, the bouncer in the bow tie... absolutely fantastic. Amazingly good work! A topical entry from jwhite, with Tiger Woods turning the pub into a "gentleman's" venue... great neon, and a good colour scheme. But with all his corporate sponsorship dropping away, I'm not sure Tiger could afford to buy the place any more! The original pub can just be glimpsed through michael sinclair's forest - as usual, he's gone wildly off topic but still turned in an entertaining piece. And the rippling reflection really is very good. Just one request, Michael: these big animations really slow down opening the page. Could you provide them as links instead, rather than embedding them directly? Great work, everyone. |

Many thanks Steve. Maybe you didn't recognise the bouncer - hence the name of the pub, well he is smiling for a change! |

Thank you Steve! Carson Kressley had a couple of TV shows. One was "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy". They would take an ordinary guy and do a makeover on him and basically turn him into a metrosexual ![]() The other show was "How to Look Good Naked"..where he helped people become comfortable with their bodies. He seems to have faded into obscurity lately - at least here in Australia. _________________ Dorothy: "there's no place like home!" |
