Sorry again, not much time this week for reasons given before, but just try this limited one (Sorry Michael et al, not as much work as yours I fear, and can see... ).

Here is mine....this challenge was fun.
The eagle (minus blur) and the plane are the only "real" images...the sky, clouds, and smoke trail are all made from scratch with photoshop.
I love how many posts here have ideas I could never have thought of...great stuff.

Re: Challenge 287: Kami Kaze mission
First to dive out of the skies this week was redsnapper, with a stark image that's alternately horrifying and amusing. The photograph would be gruesome, were it not for the cartoon blood. Not sure about the eye in the sky, though - seems like an element too far.

A very atmospheric piece from Jeepy, whose pilot is escaping the flying saucers from a couple of weeks ago. I like the toning and sense of movement here: but although breaking out of the border is an interesting technique, I'm not sure it always helps the image to work. And without the lasers, I think!

A fantastic view from inside the cockpit from dwindt, the speed really emphasized by the radial blurring. Is that a traffic cone, or a stray windsock? Whatever it is, I don't quite get what it's doing up in the air... a lot of power here, a really dynamic montage.

More heavy metal imagery from powerslave, with a skeletal pilot in what appears to be a crystal plane. A lot going on here - I like the burning zero in the background. I also like the way the sky and horizon have been tilted to a dramatic angle, but the straight-on view of the close-up makes the image less compelling: try rotating the plane at the front, as well, for a greater sense of movement.

A beautiful scene from Nick Curtain, whose Zero is coasting over what appears to be a Scottish loch (or possibly a Tibetan loch, if they have them). I'd like a little more sense of motion on the plane, Nick - I can see the faint trail, but I'm not sure it's strong enough. And shouldn't it have a reflection? The second entry is a perfect match between the plane and its background: it just shows how important it is to get the perspective right, even up in the air.

A charged view from Carlo Alessandro Della Valle, with the twin towers bursting into flame on the left. I think my not showing them directly, you've avoided what might otherwise have been an awkward situation. An interesting smoke trail effect: perhaps a touch too strong. But who is the man in the foreground, with the radio? Or is it a remote control?

A dramatic shot - and a fine cast - from laddition, with three Zeros appearing in formation. The formation is just a little too tight: if you rotate the back ones just a few degrees, it will make the whole image much more convincing. An interesting flame and explosion effect - and the silhouettes of the people are fantastic, full of energy.

I like Ben Mills' idea of taking off the original propeller and replacing it with a blurred version - but is the blur simply a translucent disk? Or should we be able to see some hint of the original shape? I'd be tempted to rebuild the propeller on a new layer, then use radial blur on it, rather than drawing it from scratch.

An excellent homage to Roy Lichtenstein from GKB, who has patched the Zero neatly into the original painting. I'd like to see some comicbook style dots in that strong wing shadow, though: it looks a little flat as it stands. You could try replacing the green with a section of the sky and recolouring it, which might add the texture that's needed.

Funny work from Roister, again with a Lichtenstein touch. I like the strongly cartoony, sparse nature of this image - but the grey, uniform sky might be better in blue, don't you think? And maybe with smaller dots? A great idea, though, neatly put together.

Fantastic work from brewell, with not only great realism in the serious part of the image (I like the way the guns are firing directly toward the plane) but a very neatly realized touch of humour with the kamikaze pilot display team. Altogether, a really entertaining piece of work, Bruce!

A rather touching display from tooquilos, as the trainer at the Kamikaze academy shows them the ropes. Great facial movement tying in with the speech! The plane appears to take off sideways, though: wouldn't this work better if it enlarged as it rose, so it appeared to take off towards us?

A most impressive piece of "un-restoration" from LonnieK , whose Zero blends neatly into the scene on a burning gun deck. Given the size of the pilot, though, I'd have moved the plane a little further back in the scene - which would have meant it could be partly obscured by the smoke, and so would have blended more convincingly into the background. I like the coffee stains!

A very dramatic scene from tomiloi, whose plane is coming right out of the sky and firing through the battleship's windows. I like the broken glass, and the sense of action here; the second plane in the background adds a lot to the action. Given the colour of the sky, though, the planes could do with some of that orange tint glinting off their wings. I see what you've done with the sailor in the foreground, but in order to be that out of focus he really needs to be very much closer to the camera. Otherwise - a great image!

The desaturation in katew's plane matches the suburban background perfectly - and it's only when you look twice, and see that the wing is in front of the buildings, that you realize it's a model on a small scale. The cowering woman gives a good sense of the plane's closeness here, but her eyeline does make the plane look huge: it's hard to tell just how big this model is!

There's an entire movie compressed into a few seconds in james' animation: I've watched it over and over to try to see all the frames in the last half second, and I still haven't caught them all! My only comment here: I'd really like it if the watch at the end lined up with the position of the sun.

A new member this week: and color has produced a strong, monochromatic image of the plane zooming through the night sky. But the image is on a poster or flag, that's held up against the real evening sky - an interesting effect. I think I'd lose the shadow of the poster, as it couldn't cast one on the sky! A great first image, color. Welcome to the forum!

Dazzlingly good work from Deborah Morley: if we didn't know, it would be almost impossible to tell that the Zero wasn't part of the original museum display. The angle, the cables, the position in the scene, all work absolutely perfectly. The only change I'd make would be to add some of the pervading brown tint to the plane, which would help to blend it in even more.

A charming view of a boy's dreams from vibeke, with Star Wars taking on the Second World War: a carefully posed shot - is that your grandson? I like the model plane on the bedside table, carefully positioned to match the one in the dream, and the clever placement of the airplane book.

An almost fully on-topic trilogy from michael sinclair, except of course he hasn't used my starting image. The first shows a group of Zeroes flying with a battleship (although, oddly, not quite in the same direction). The second entry is much more realistic, with the planes matching the perspective of the background neatly; the third entry is full of drama, as the Zeroes plummet into the battleship. Fantastic movement and explosions here: the only thing I'm not sure about is the pilot in the foreground. Can you really stand up straight in those rafts? A mammoth effort, Michael - looks like you enjoyed this one.

I like the skywriting from Emvee - very neatly achieved. Some odd distortion on the plane, though: and do propeller planes leave jet trails? Or is skywriting done some other way?

A huge amount of movement from Jota120, with a real sense of drama - I like the spinning propeller especially. The only problem is, the plane seems to have missed the battleships entirely... a short sighted pilot?

The hand-drawn sky in Wideangle's entry is a fantastic piece of work - not just the texture, but the shape, which adds a lot of drama to the image. The plane, by contrast, is perhaps a little static: I'd have tried lowering the opacity on the whole plane a little, to make it blend more into that background. I like the placement of the eagle!

An interesting image from gaoxiguo, with a giant Marilyn Monroe dodging the fleet of Zeroes... an interesting approach! I like the way the planes are at slightly different angles, this really adds a good sense of realism to them.

Thanks Steve. I was trying to alter the black of the propellers as I thought that was too harsh (without much luck). A brown tint it is!

Good plan, Steve. Hadn't thought of doing it that way.

Well done everybody. There's some outstanding manipulations here. Thank you Steve. The red and white structure is a light house beacon on the shore-line below the cliffs.

There is a very feint reflection in the lake, but with the water so choppy I struggled to make it look accurate. The second entry was an after thought and I'm pleased you liked it.

Re: Challenge 287: Kami Kaze mission
yeah, thanks steve. i actually thought you´d censor this away. you´re right with the eye in the sky but i posted it and didn´t want to repost. comic blood intentionally looks like it does. hate myself for not having fixed a stained sign to the plane reading "her majesties service".
