Re: Challenge 291: Potter, Jackson - what next?
I am totally off brief here and for that i apologise. Little back story to this one. I work as a Senior Porter at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and a colleague of mine had a little bit of an accident whilst driving his tug( Heavy duty towing vehicle) and managed to smash through a fire door so i thought i would commemorate his bad luck/driving(with his kind permission) with this Harry Potter rip off. I'm fed up with missing out on these challenges due to work commitments so im posting this so that i can join in the fun for a change.Well, he is famous around the hospital anyway ![]() Wayne ![]() _________________ Justice for the '96 YNWA |

Re: Challenge 291: Potter, Jackson - what next?
Plenty of fun this week - with an early 'entry' from Josephine Harvatt, whose poster for a friend or colleague must have gone down well with the person concerned. It's a great idea, and beautifully put together. A leaving card? Or a birthday? A fantastic job with the real entry, with a particularly fine choice of politician images - the lighting is a perfect match (and George Osborne's similarity to Hermione is uncanny). And a really funny choice of captions. Excellent lettering - is this a freeware font? - from tooquilos, and a terrific choice of trio. And as you say, one of them really could be female, especially when we're reminded of his voice in the animated version... a great job! A nice homage to Peter, Paul and Mary from Babybiker - and a good version of the lettering. They're perhaps just a bit too monochromatic, and could do with a little low saturation flesh tone in there. And maybe a more dramatic lighting effect behind them? The premiers of France, Germany and Britain show up in Ben Mills's Euro post - Chamber of Secrets, indeed. The positioning and pose of Sarkozy and Merkel behind Brown is a very good choice. Perhaps the stars could be stronger and more luminous, though. A powerful image from brewell, with perfect expressions on all three - and the spectral elephant makes a good brooding presence. Great lettering treatment, too. The only thing that bothers me here is Obama's left hand - the elbow is far too low down. Lift it up before he dislocates it! I like Jeepy's graveyard setting, but should the shadow really be a crucifix? Some great details here: Sarkozy's red tie, the broken Tour Eiffel and Arc de Triomphe in the background... a powerful piece of work. Fantastic poses from Deborah Morley, as Brown rubs his hands in glee - great choice of body and expression (although his head is perhaps a little small). And while it isn't the Harry Potter font, it's a very good choice and the bevel works perfectly on it. Very fine expressions from Nick Curtain - I particularly like Darling's sideways glance, and the Scottish Widows body for Harman. Although I'm not sure why Brown is eating a parsnip. Interesting choice of typeface, perhaps more John Grisham than J K Rowling: try a stronger bevel, and Chisel Soft rather than Smooth, and it will have a more carved appearance. It's always fun to see myself cropping up in these images, especially sandwiched betweem Les Moore's mismatched pair - the hulking, devilish Amy Winehouse is fantastic, especially the way she's holding her own tail. Great use of the Harry Potter font - but add a sharper bevel for a closer match to the original. A movie with many layers... I like it! Very clever work from laddition, with Yoko Ono breaking the Beatles apart... and that's a fantastic power for McCartney, too. I like the lighting, the subdued colours, and the stark tree behind them. But shouldn't all that rain make splashes on the ground? Great work, Vero. A homage to Lost from Carlo Alessandro Della Valle, with the moodiest trio of the week. Good shadows, though I'd like to see a little more of the blue background colour showing up in the figures as well. I like the plane, and the text treatment, but I'm not sure about the very dark lump in the foreground. Some detail needed in there, perhaps. Sarkozy pops up again in vibeke's entry, with some great body language - but should both the women be looking so cheerful? I like the lightning bolt, but Sarkozy played by George Clooney is just an imagination stretch too far! "It's my first montage", says eblyth00 with a first Friday Challenge entry as well - and it's a powerful piece of work, with a strong group of characters and excellent treatment on the lettering. Just watch the spelling of words like "thought", though! The essence of the original poster has been well captured here, and I like the reworked positions in the second entry. A great start. Welcome to the forum! A touch of politics from GKB, as Gordon brings in Pinocchio (a fantastic wood treatment of Peter Mandelson) and a range of Alice characters - Blair's Cheshire Cat is particularly appealing. I'm not with you on the politics, Gordon, but I admire your Photoshop skills! A set of dancing celebs from LonnieK , neatly assembled on a unifying stage. Not sure Ann Margret should be floating in space like that, though, but I like the composition! A fantastic trio from michael sinclair, who's actually stuck to the brief this week. A fine assembly of talent here, and Supergirl's heaving breast really cracked me up. Subtle it may not be, but it works! The only thing I'm not sure about is the 3D extrusion - more shading needed on those sides. A way off-topic entry from Jota120, who combines a random selection of his heroes with a lightning nod to Harry Potter. Very neat text bending in the second entry - although, again, I'm not sure what it all means. Fine work from darkdemon, with some really shiny lettering and plenty of mystery in the imagery. I have to say, though, this has convinced me not to grow a beard in my old age. But maybe the world needs a book of Photoshop magic? A strong, bright and crisp image from color, with actor Jason Statham posing in front of his BMW. It's a very accomplished piece of work, the swirling light adding a lot of life to the composition: I like the detail like the motion blur on the name, and the subtle treatment of the film title. A striking composition from gauxiguo, with a good arrangement of people. Not sure about Obama appearing twice - and you seem to have two suns, as well! This week rounds off with wayne morton's tribute to a colleague, neatly echoing Josephine Harvatt's first post of the week like a couple of bookends. Wayne, no need to apologise for going very slightly off-topic - if we can use Photoshop to bring a little fun into people's lives, so much the better. Fantastic lettering effect, and I like the swirl around the broken fire door. Distorting the door so that it appeared to come towards us in the middle might have helped the drama of the image. A great bunch of posters this week, from a great bunch of posters. |

Wayne, Im glad he did not have one of those tug trucks they have at the airport to move e.g. 747s. There would have been no hospital left then ![]() ![]() Oh, and very much on brief, more than mine, and great font IMHO |

Re: Challenge 291: Potter, Jackson - what next?
Thanks Steve. The idea for Peter Mandelson came from a comedy series on Radio 4 with one 'Lord Pinocchio' which was an obvious reference to him. _________________ Why is there only one body to investigate Monopolies ? |

Sadly the joke has fallen flat. Brown is holding a very old scroll, to depict a very old policy, hence the reference to carbon dating. Surely parsnips are pointed at one end? Nick |

Thanks Trevor, I think the NHS are grateful for that aswell, poor bloke still hasn't lived that one down. It has been printed A3 size and takes pride of place in the porters lodge just to remind him to slow down a bit ![]() Wayne P.S The font is the same one as Anna's from dafont.com the rest is purely down to my favourite PS feature....Layer Styles. My inner Dr. Frankenstein came out on this one. I really enjoy finding body parts, stitching them together and bringing them to life. A little nip and tuck on the left arm will do the trick. Good call. _________________ Is it necessary? Does it work? |
